Marcel Azzola (1927-2019) est décédé - Franceby Rob Howard |
 Marcel Azzola, l'un des accordéonistes français les plus célèbres, s'est éteint paisiblement le 21 janvier à l'âge de 91 ans. Né à Paris en 1927 de parents italiens, Azzola montra très tôt l'aptitude à la musique et à l'accordéon. .Azzola était l'un des rares musiciens à avoir comblé le fossé entre le grand âge du jazz et de la musette dans les années 1930 et le présent. Il était un contemporain d'Yvette Horner, décédée l'année dernière. Il était un musicien polyvalent et hautement accompli, dont la gamme englobait la musette, le tango, la musique classique, le jazz et le swing. Il a joué et enregistré avec Edith Piaf, Juliette Greco, Gilbert Becaud, Yves Montand, le saxophoniste Stan Getz, l'harmonica Toots Thielemans, Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli et notamment Jacques Brel. Azzola a également joué sur plusieurs bandes sonores de films, dont «Mon Oncle» de Jacques Tati. Marcel Azzola était très apprécié de ses pairs et apprécié de tous ceux qui le connaissaient. Son partenaire de longue date était la pianiste Lina Bossati (photo en haut à droite) qui l'accompagnait. |

 n quelques années, le festival Akkordeon Grenzenlos organisé par la Hohner-Konservatorium Trossingen GmbH est devenu un rendez-vous annuel, qui a lieu chaque année pendant la semaine qui suit Pâques.Les dates 2019 vont du 23 au 27 avril et l'événement comprendra une grande variété de concerts, d'ateliers et de forums avec un concert chaque soir et des ateliers pendant la journée. Les professeurs incluent: Andreas Nebl, Wolfgang Russ, Hans-Günther Kölz, Matthias Anton, Werner Glutsch, Lars Holm, Michaela Fürnschlief, Matthias Matzke, avec une gamme de sujets et de genres optimiste et très diversifiée.   Les inscriptions se terminent le 15 février pour la 32ème convention annuelle de l'Association nationale d'accordéon (NAA) dirigée par le président de la NAA, Norman Seaton. La convention aura lieu à l'hôtel Hyatt Regency, Richardson, Texas, du 7 au 9 mars.La convention de 2019 comprendra des sessions de formation pour orchestre (dirigées par Lionel Reekie - photo de droite), des sessions de formation numériques et acoustiques (par Markus et Sabine Baggio - photo de gauche), des ventes d’accordéon, des démonstrations et démonstrations, des pratiques de groupe amusant, des ateliers, des chants autour du thème. feu de camp, jam sessions, jeu de polka, performances, musique de danse folklorique, concerts et bien plus encore. 23ème semaine internationale de l'accordéon - Portugalby Rob Howard |
  La 23ème semaine internationale de l'accordéon "Alcobaça 2019" se tiendra à Alcobaça du 18 au 26 mai, organisée par Diana Freire (responsable de la compétition) et Aníbal Freire, (photos à gauche), président de l'Association des accordéons du Portugal.Cette semaine internationale comprendra le 24e trophée national ainsi que le 5e concours international d'accordéon, les 24 et 26 mai (concerts). L'objectif principal est de donner aux jeunes accordéonistes l'occasion d'évaluer leurs connaissances et leurs compétences par rapport à d'autres joueurs internationaux. Le concours comprendra des catégories pour solistes, duos, trios, quatuors, orchestres et musique de chambre pour tous les groupes d'âge. En outre, il y aura un programme de concerts et de classes de maître. Les détails seront annoncés bientôt. Les inscriptions se terminent le 10 mai 2019. | One accordion never sounded like this before! Renowned soloist Alexander Poeluev is joined by Elizaveta Poelueva, Nikita Rodionov, Nikita Seregin, Gennady Ovsyannikov to make this new video titled "Brave experiments with accordion!" Recorded in Rostov-on-Don, Russia in October 2018. I showed this video to an accordionist friend who made the joke: "If I had fingers like Poeluev, I would be more than happy to be a soloist!" We both had a good laugh. Poeluev wrote, that he is travelling now to Lithuania and Belarus to play concerts in Vilnus, Kaunas and Minsk. His CD is available online at: Alexander Poeluev |

 Accordionist, teacher, orchestra conductor and musical director, Jacob Noordzij (Austria) received a warm welcome when he visited the Dargaville Museum Accordion Gems collection on January 24th accompanied by Harley Jones, Christine Johnstone (who is the Museum Manager and an accordionist), Museum Director Maree Saunders and committee members. Jacob conducted the 2014 World Accordion Orchestra VIII and at the conclusion of the concert performance, he presented his 9 row Hohner Marino to Kevin Friedrich to be included as part of his Accordion Gems collection at the Museum. While at the Museum, Jacob entertained the museum committee members playing “Edelweiss” and a traditional New Zealand Maori love song “Pokarekare Ana”. This was followed by a tour of the Museum where Jacob and his family could see his donated accordion displayed in the newly established Music Room (Picture above). In addition to a variety of instruments from the accordion family, the display includes original manuscripts, rare recordings, a 300 piece Accordion Figurine Collection and other accordion related archives and information. Kevin Friedrich sent a message to Jacob which was read out to him at the Museum and ended: "My sincerest thanks to you, for donating your beautiful Hohner accordion to my 'Accordion Gems, A Master Collection of Accordions Through Time' collection". | Accordionist Marco Lo Russo has released his EP entitled “Made in Italy Project” on the Rouge Sound Production label. The EP includes the electroacoustic revisitation of the song “Caruso” by Lucio Dalla three versions: instrumental, sung in Italian and Spanish with ingredients of electronic and acoustic music that distinguish the typical sound of Marco Lo Russo. The Marco Lo Russo Music Center Association has always been involved in fundraising charity to support the disadvantaged all over the world in addition to the activity of music production and international concerts. The EP is widely available on the internet. |

| The Musikmesse in Frankfurt is the international trade fair for musical instruments, sheet music, music production and marketing. This year’s event will be held from April 2nd to 5th and will be open daily for Trade and Private visitors. This new Musikmesse Plaza is an innovative event concept focusing on musicians and music lovers. In different areas there will be vintage exhibitions, record fair, music instrument market, an instrument auction and lots more. In addition there will be stage performances, workshops, demonstrations and discussion events. A full report of the 2018 Frankfurt Musikmesse with photos will be available after the opening. |

 Accordionist Iñaki Alberdi will perform a new double concerto by Jesús Torres with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra on February 20th at the Baluarte Auditorium Chamber Music Hall in Pamplona. The work is entitled “Tansfiguración of Jesús Torres” (concerto for cello, accordion and string orchestra) and will be conducted by José Luis López Antón. The concert includes a duo recital with Asier Polo (cello - picture left) of pieces by Piazzolla, Bach and Gubaidulina. Accordionist Iñaki Alberdi studied under Carlos Iturralde, and completed his training under Friedrich Lips and Matti Rantanen at the International Centre for Accordion Studies, the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He was awarded first prizes at the Coupe Mondiale (Colmar, 1994), the International Accordionist and Bayanist Competition (Moscow, 1995) and the Music Competition for Youth (Valladolid, 1996).  The Vardos Trio which includes accordionist Sofia Chapman, will entertain at the 25th Roseberry Festival held in Tasmania, Australia from February 22nd to 24th. The group play a variety of music learnt from Roma (Gypsy) musicians during their travels in Eastern Europe. Based in Melbourne, the band has toured to Hungary, France, Berlin, Switzerland, Amsterdam, New Caledonia, New Zealand, London and Scotland. For further information email: vardos@hotmail.com |

  An accordion trip to Castelfidardo & San Marino in Italy for five days from May 14th to 18th has been organised by PLG Marketing. They already have bookings from accordionists in the UK, USA and Canada. The trip will include a selection of accordions to play at the hotel during the stay, visits to factories to see accordions being made, see how reeds and bellows are produced, visit the Accordion Museum, try the largest working accordion in the world, try new instruments in the showrooms, evening entertainment and a final night dinner with guest accordionist.  The “Not Just Oom-Pah Accordion Concert” will be held on April 5th at Central Market North, Austin, Texas featuring Jamie Maschler (pictured), Rachel Bell and Karen Axelrod. The concert is free and open to the public. This will be followed by the "Not Just Oom-Pah Accordion Workshop" on April 6th and 7th at the Lamar Senior Activity Centre in Austin, Texas.  Que faites vous la Journée de l’accordéon pour promovoir l’accordéon dans votre pays ?La journée de l’accordéon est le 6 mai, qui est le jour où l’accordéon a été inventé en 1829. La journée de l’accordéon a été créé en 2009 par le CIA et a rencontré beaucoup de succès depuis, donnant une image positive de l’accordéon. Un des maillons essentiels de cet évènement est le site web de la Journée de l’accordéon. Chaque association, groupe, orchestre, joueur ou enseignant sont priés de soutenir activement cet évènement en proposant ce jour-là, dans leur pays, des activités nationales et locales autour de l’accordéon. Cela peut s’organiser aussi le week end d’avant ou après si c’était plus commode. Chacun peut inscrire son activité pour la journée de l’accordéon sur le site web et envoyer a posteriori un compte rendu qui sera publié sur le site. Aucun évènement n’est trop gros ou ni trop petit. Tous les évènements liés à l’accordéon pour célébrer la journée de l’accordéon seront les bienvenus. C’est une campagne organisée par le CIA pour l’accordéon où tout féru d’accordéon peut participer, le but étant de renforcer les liens de la communauté autour de l’accordéon et de promouvoir l’instrument. |
