Russian Final of Roland V-Accordion Festival, Moscow – Russia

Alexey Chernomordikov and Edward Akhanov
The first Russian Final of the Roland V-Accordion Festival was held in a concert hall of the Central House of Artists, Moscow, on September 7th 2010. The initiative came from Alexander Selivanov, winner of international competitions and Professor at the Gnessin Academy of Music, Moscow.

The finalists – Edward Akhanov (above right), Vladimir Butusov, Alexei Klimov, Yuri Medianik and Alexei Chernomordikov (above left) – passed a tough selection process, consisting of 2 phases - the contest for the videos and live performance in Moscow in front of the jury. All the finalists are brilliant and versatile musicians, each with his own style.

The organizers produced a bright and memorable show - a real feast for the audience with a quiz with valuable prizes, video broadcast and fun entertainment. Besides the competition performances, the audience heard the winners of the Junior category - Ivan Ratnikov and Semen Kuzovchikov, as well as performances by professional jazz ensembles.

The jury included Anatoly Belyaev (Chairman), Professor Viatcheslav Semionov, winners of international competitions Alexander Selivanov and Yulia Amerikova, and Roland Russia representative Ilya Sandalov.

Alexey Chernomordikov and Edward Akhanov left the most striking impression. It was a real duel between two talented musicians. The winner was Alexey Chernomordikov, who plays the latest model of V-AccordionRoland FR-7xb, and who now will go to the International Finals in Rome. Alexey has shown tremendous knowledge of electronic instruments, original repertoire and his deep reading of the ‘Caprice No 2’ «S.O.S.» by Viatcheslav Semionov left an indelible impression on the audience. Edward Akhanov was in second place with a minimum margin of 0.3 points. Edward conquered the audience with his vivid stage image, the artistry and impeccable virtuosity, and he will compete in the CIA Coupe Mondiale Digital Accordion category. The Coupe Mondiale takes place from October 18th to 24th in Varazdin, Croatia.

All the finalists received from Roland Russia certificates for the 1750 euro discount for the purchase of a Roland FR-7x(b).

The International Finals of Roland V-Accordion Festival will take place in Rome on October 15th and 16th 2010.

4th National Roland Competiton, Trossingen - Germany‏

Roland
This year's national qualifying contest for the 4th Roland V-Accordion International Festival was held on September 11th in the Federal College, Trossingen. After three years being held in Hamburg, Trossingen was chosen to simplify participation for candidates from the south of Germany. The jury members were Prof. Ulrich Schmülling, Slavko Avsenik Jr., Konstantin Ischenko, Dieter Wit, and Peter Müller

Rudik Yakhin, who won last year, was again victorious. He was awarded 408 points, convincing the jury with his lightness, ability and the excellent breathtakingly imaginative use of the V-Accordion. His pieces were: Franck Angelis - ‘Impasse IV. Vivace Finale' (cat: angelis556), ‘Étienne’ - Nicolas Méhul, ‘Sonata in A major – 1st Movement (Allegro)’, and Luciano Fancelli - ‘10 km al finestrino’. The winner received the Roland top model FR-7x

Hans-Peter Wöhrle, a stroke victim, was one of the invited festival guests. Mr Wöhrle has been playing the Roland FR-7, for years but was recently hit by several strokes, which both severely affected his walking and his speech. Still in hospital Mr Wöhrle asked to get his beloved accordion. In his touching story he told of how he almost had to relearn the instrument.

With learning progress, memory and movement came back into the fingers, and ultimately to the entire body. This type of training to refine motor control was ultimately judged by his doctors as the key to the success of his recovery.

Mr Wöhrle walked upright with his accordion in the room to great applause, told his story and played many pieces on his Roland V-Accordion while the jury were deliberating the contest results. With his story, he would like to help and encourage others with similar problems.
