The 42nd “Citta di Castelfidardo” International Accordion Competitions and Festival ran from Wednesday 13th September until Sunday 17th September. The very successful event was well attended with an excellent festival atmosphere around the town square concerts stage and eateries. Crystal Wang Performs With Shanghai Symphony Orchestra - Chinaby Harley Jones |
Crystal Wang, internationally known teacher and Assoc. Professor, Music College of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU), Executive Secretary of the China Accordion Association, performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yu Long on 10th September. 2017ShanghaiConcert The concert celebrating the 33rd Teachers' Day was held in the prestigious 1,300 seat Main Hall of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra where Crystal Wang and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra performed the ever popular Carnival of Venice (J. Benedict). It was very pleasing to have the accordion so prominently represented at this high profile Teachers' Day concert. The excellent performance by Crystal Wang was very well received and there was extended applause from the large audience. |

Mirco Patarini (Italy) has become the 12th President of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), the first Italian President in the organization's 82 year history. PastPresidents.pdf Patarini assumes the role from immediate past President Raymond Bodell (United Kingdom) who completed his two (4 year) terms of office, leading the CIA (photos right). Mirco Patarini was born in Spoleto (Italy) on 26 May 1966. In 1978 he began to study music at the CDMI (Italian Musical Didactic Centre) in Spoleto. He went on to compete in international competitions, taking first place in the Trophée Mondial de l'Accordéon in La Caux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). In 1988 he began to collaborate with the company “Farfisa-Bontempi” as musical manager, and here he started his evolution through the world of electronic music. In a collaboration with manufacturers Scandalli, Paolo Soprani and Menghini, he worked hard on the development of new musical instruments with increased sound quality and mechanics. During this time his work as a concert artist transitioned from classical repertoire to modern music. With brothers Leonardo and Luciano Menghini, he is the owner and President of Scandalli Accordions S.r.l. Today, working alongside his fellow manufacturers in the small but renowned city of Castelfidardo, he works to promote excellence in accordion manufacturing. As an accordion concert artist, Mirco performs worldwide as both a soloist, with symphony orchestras and with internationally recognized musicians, having performed in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Great Britain, Egypt, Brasil, U.S.A, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, Japan, China, Sweden, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ukraine and more. Having served as a Delegate and Jury member for Italy, Chairperson of the CIA Music Committee and twice as organizer of the Coupe Mondiale in recent years, as President, Mr. Patarini brings to the CIA a diverse wealth of expertise from many aspects of the accordion world. From manufacturing and production through to the concert stage, from his national CIA Premiere Voting member the Italian Accordion Culture to organizing both national and International festivals, to the print and online publications of Strumenti & Musica, to his work collaborating with musicians of all ages and genres of music, he looks forward to working on behalf of the 43 CIA members in their future endeavors as well as promoting the important collaboration with the UNESCO based International Music Council. Video: Ludovic Beier Performance at Coupe Mondiale Digital Accordion Concert. On the last Sunday of the Coupe Mondiale in Osimo, manufacturers of digital accordions had been invited by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) to contribute a performer for a concert of "expert and high level digital accordion performance". Sean Montgomery, Accordion Product Manager of Roland Europe Group Ltd had announced that Ludovic Beier (France) would perform using the just released FR-8X version 2.5 software update with additional functions: - Support for the new FR-8x Editor; - 37 new orchestral sound taken from the FR-4X; - New keyboard layouts; - Various new parameters to give the player even more control of how the FR=8X can be programmed / played live; - Various bug fixes. Geir Draugsvoll originates from Norway, but has lived in Copenhagen for decades, where he is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. He receives headlines as "groundbreaking" and "music sensation" in the international music press. His repertoire ranges from Bach, Mozart, Grieg, Stravinsky to Piazzolla, Gubaidulina, Senderovas, Hosokawa, Berio and Norgaard.
