25th Akordeono Festival Vilnius 2022 - Lithuaniaby Christine Johnstone |
The 25th Akordeono Festivalis Vilnius 2022 (25th Anniversary of the International Accordion Festival Vilnius 2022) will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania from November 5th to 25th, 2022. The festival will begin with a concert by Raimondas Sviackevicius (picture right) on November 5th at 7pm and finish on the 25th with a concert by Kimmo Pohjonen (Finland - picture left) in the Entertainment Hall Vakaris in Vilnius at 7.30pm. Tango 5 Ensemble Performs at Museum Chamber Concert – Austriaby Christine Johnstone |
The Tango 5 Ensemble will perform at a chamber concert entitled “Rhythm and Dynamics” in the Bassano Hall at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (picture above) in Vienna, Austria on November 3rd, 2022 at 7.30pm. The ensemble will perform while museum visitors take part in a guided tour and view the "Venus Festival" collection by Peter Paul Rubens. The Tango 5 Ensemble (pictured below) includes Miloš Todorovski (bandoneon), Sophie Heinrich (violin), Andrea Wild (electric guitar), Maria Radutu (piano) and Ivaylo Iordanov (double bass). The 2022 "International Accordion Week" will take place from October 25th, 2022 in Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. The Artistic Director of the festival is Marco Gemelli. The festival will include daily concerts and masterclasses with international tutors including Cesare Chiacchiaretta, Zan Trobas, Raimondas Sviackevicius and “Motion Trio” which consists of accordionists Janusz Wojtarowicz, Pawel Baranek and Marcin Galazayn (pictured left). Pietro Roffi Performs with Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra – Czech Republicby Christine Johnstone |
Pietro Roffi (picture left) will perform with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra (picture below - conducted by Robert Kruzik) at the Zlín Congress Centre in Zlin, Czech Republic on November 10th, 2022 at 7pm. The concert entitled “The Magic of Fairy Tales” will include “Fairy Tales” for accordion and orchestra (a seven-movement suite by Václav Trojan), Hansel and Gretel, overture to the opera (by Engelbert Humperdinck) and Scheherazade, Op. 35 (by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov). A number of composers throughout history have drawn inspiration from fairy tales for their work, and it is works by Humperdinck, Trojan and Rimsky-Korsakov based on folk-tale themes that make up this concert. The Northern Ireland Open Accordion Championships will be held at the Hilton Hotel Templepatrick, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on February 18th, 2023 organised by Clyde Johnston (picture left). The competition will include sections exclusively for Marching Accordion Bands with graded sections for Military Marches as well as Four Part Harmony, Melody & Irish/Scottish traditional sections. Call for Applications for 2023 Federal Accordion Orchestra, Bundesakkordeonorchester (BuAkkO) of the DHV - Germanyby Christine Johnstone |
Applications are now open for the 2023 Federal Accordion Orchestra Bundesakkordeonorchester (BuAkkO) of the DHV, for musicians who are either full-time associated with the accordion as music students, music teachers, soloists or conductors or who are sufficiently qualified as amateurs for participation in such an ensemble due to their ability to play at a professional level. The 2023 Bundesakkordeonorchester (BuAkkO) will be conducted by Silke D’Inka (picture right) and players must be aged 27 and over. 1st International Composition Video Contest: Trophée Mondiale Gorka Hermosaby Christine Johnstone |
The 1st International Composition Video Contest: Trophée Mondiale Gorka Hermosa will be held this year organised by the Confédération Mondiale de L`accordion. Each candidate must play a work by composer Gorka Hermosa for solo, any chamber music group, ensemble or accordion and orchestra. Video’s must be submitted by November 15th, 2022 and must be recorded in one continuous video. The jury will be composed of President of the Jury, Gorka Hermosa and members chosen by the composer himself. Gorka Hermosa will compose a piece dedicated to the winner of the competition. |

The All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Prospects for the Development of Pedagogy and Performance on Bayan & Accordion" will be held in Moscow on November 1st, 2022. The conference is held with the aim of organizing an open professional platform for discussing current problems and directions in the development of the system of children's art schools and children's music schools in the implementation of additional pre-professional and general development programs. Within the framework of the Conference, teachers will be able to demonstrate practical achievements in the field of pedagogy and performance on the bayan and accordion, as well as modern forms and methods of organizing the educational process. |

Vincent Lhermet is the 2022 Accordion Professor at the Paris Conservatoire – CNSMDP (Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris) in France. Vincent said he was honoured to continue Professor Max Bonnay’s work as accordion professor at the Paris Conservatoire. Entrance examinations will take place in February 2023 in Paris as follows: • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees: registrations are open until November 15th, 2022 Artist diploma and PhD programs: applications in Spring 2023 and auditions in September 2023. The Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) held their 75th Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships and 148th CIA International General Assembly of Delegates in Zofingen, Switzerland. The event was hosted by the CIA member accordeon.ch from October 4th to 9th, 2022. Founded in 1935 in Paris, France, the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) is a member of the International Music Council, an NGO official partner of UNESCO). The American Accordionists' Association (AAA) and the Accordionists and Teachers Guild, International (ATG) have long since shared the USA membership to the CIA. Over 80 contestants competed in six categories of competition, with winners representing a variety of countries. This years Coupe Mondiale winner was Serbian accordionist Dragoslav Vasiljevic. In an exciting competition, after three demanding rounds of competition held over several days, with a score of 23.49 he narrowly edged out Hang Ding from China who was just fractions of a point behind with 23.41. The American delegation this year included Kevin Friedrich representing the AAA (also CIA Ambassador) and ATG President Mary Ann Covone, Joan Cochran Sommers (CIA Honorary Member and President of the 75th Coupe Mondiale Jury) and Liz Finch representing the ATG. The Mayor of Zofingen, Christiane Guyer welcomed everyone to the 75th Coupe Mondiale in Zofingen during the Opening Ceremony Concert which featured an array of unique Swiss performances including Yodeling and Alp Horns as well as the winner of the 2021 Coupe Mondiale held in Munich, Olzhas Nurlanov. Three special presentations were made at the event, including the CIA Merit Award for outstanding contributions to the International accordion movement, which went to Vojin Vasovic from Serbia and Prof. Ricardas Sviackevicius from Lithuania while the Honored Friend of the Accordion Award for services to the accordion movement was presented to Lois Breitfuss from Austria. After Mirco Patarini (Italy) was re-elected as CIA President last year, this General Assembly included elections for all other offices. Newly elected CIA Executive Committee members include: Kevin Friedrich (USA - Ambassador), Zorica Karakutovska (North Macedonia - Vice President), Jörgen Sundeqvist (Sweden - Vice President), Kimmo Mattila (Finland - General Secretary), Alexander Selivanov (Russia - Chairperson of the Music Committee), Harley Jones (New Zealand - Public Relations Manager) and Li Cong (China – Vice President, not pictured). In addition to the re-elected Chairperson, Alexander Selivanov (Russia), members of the CIA Music Committee include: Grayson Masefield (New Zealand - Vice Chairperson), Jirí Lukeš (Czech Republic), Ruedi Marty (Switzerland), Danijela Gazdic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Antonio Spaccarotella (Italy) and not pictured, Crystal Wang (CongYu Wang - China). To compliment the competitions, several magnificent concerts were held including the spectacular Misa a Buenos Aires by Martin Palmeri performed by the Accordion Orchestra Brittnau and the Soland Choir under the direction of Ruth Soland with soloists Susanne Wiesner (Alto) and Julien Tudisco (Bandoneon). The 60 strong Blue Project Orchestra was a group formed specifically for the event and performed under the baton of Lionel Chapuis. The program included works related to ‘blue’ including things like Blue Rondo a la Turk, Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin with piano soloist Ettienne Murith and Bluesette by Jean Thielmanns and Worlgang Russ. The awards concert opened with the World Premiere of a new Finnish work by renowned composer Kalevi Aho, when Janne Valkeajoki performed his newly composed Sonata No. 3. After five busy days of competitions and concerts, the Coupe Mondiale festival came to a close with the stars of the event, the young artists themselves with the Awards presentation and Concert featuring the winners of the six categories of competition. CNIMA 2022 Adult Workshop – Franceby Christine Johnstone |
The CNIMA directed by Nathalie Boucheix will hold their final workshop for adults this year from November 7th to 11th, 2022. The course is specifically designed for adults with smaller classes adapted to the specific problems of adults in a friendly atmosphere by tutors Jacques Mornet and Nathalie Boucheix. The workshop will cover instrumental work based on the Jacques Mornet method, approach of the accordion as a wind instrument, management of the air column and the bellows, search for a balance between body and instrument, work on touch and articulations and quest for musicality.
