Es sind unsere letzten Nachrichten in diesem Jahr und hoffen, sie sind wie immer interessant für und werden Sie auch weiterhin über das Akkordeongeschehen auch im nächsten Jahr, egal wo sie stattfinden, berichten. Die ersten Nachrichten im nächsten Jahr werden am Freitag, den 11. Januar herausgegeben. Dies ist mein letzter wöchentlicher Beitrag als Nachrichtenredakteur und habe diese Beschäftigung seit August 2004 sehr genossen. Es war mir ein Vergnügen und ein Privileg, Sie über das internationale Akkordeongeschehen auf dem Laufenden zu halten. Ich habe dadurch viel gelernt und gesehen, wieviele Aktivitäten weltweit stattfinden. Video: Zydeco Junkie mit Chubby Carrier und der Bayou Swamp Band. Am 31. Dezember 2018 werden Chubby Carrier (Bild links) und seine Bayou Swamp Band bei "Dick Clark's New Year´s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest "im ABC auftreten. Seacrest wird die fünfeinhalbstündige Sendung für den Times Square in New York ausrichten und es wird erwartet, dass über 10 Millionen Menschen zuschauen werden! Carrier sagte, vorläufige Pläne fordern seine Band dazu auf, ihren Hit "Who Stole the Hot Sauce" zu spielen, bevor er und andere Künstler den Silvesterstandard "Auld Lang Syne" spielen, um 2019 zu begrüßen. Der Prospekt (Regeln und Bestimmungen) für die South Pacific Accordion Championships & Festival 2019 am Samstag, den 1. Juni und Sonntag, den 2. Juni 2019, ist ab sofort erhältlich unter: 2019 NZ Prospekt Die Regeln für die internationalen Kategorien orientieren sich eng an den Regeln des Coupe Mondiale‘s. Die Kategorie der internationalen Konzertmusik im Südpazifik hat genau die gleichen Regeln wie der Coupé auch die Kategorien Mondiale Masters, die Unterhaltungskategorie sowie die Kategorie Coupe Mondiale Virtuoso Entertainment. Ähnlich Junior (unter 18 Jahre) im südpazifischen Unterhaltungsbereich. Die Kategorie der Solo-Solokonzerte von South Pacific Junior hat die gleichen Regeln wie die erste Runde der Kategorie Coupe Mondiale Junior. Einsendeschluss ist der 14. April 2019. This video is a gift from accordion pupils around Estonia to honor the 100 years anniversary of their country. The accordion players attending the Summercamp on the small island of Kihnu recorded this video and it was published in September. The work is titled Mu Kodu (My Home), composed by Uno Naissoo, arranged by Uno Arro and conducted by Cathlen Haugas. |
Tillingbourne Accordion Orchestra's 30th Anniversary and Christmas Concertby Alison Worthington |
On Tuesday 18 December, the Tillingbourne Accordion Orchestra celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a concert. The concert featured pieces the orchestra had performed or competed with during the year. Once again there was competitions for the best dressed players and a prize for the best decorated Music Stand. The Tillingbourne Accordion Orchestra (formerly known as the Tillingbourne Accordion Band) was founded in 1988 meeting for rehearsals in Albury Village Hall and in 1992 moved to its current home, the Ripley Village Hall, where it meets on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM. In addition to the orchestra, in April of 1990 the Orchestra founded The Guildford Accordion Club, open to all music and accordion lovers, both players and non-players. The Club meets on the third Friday of every month in Ripley Village Hall. The concert program featured the Orchestra performing Overture Furiant by renowned German composer Adolf Götz, Finlandia by Sibelius, Artango by Thomas Ott and Skatacco. Several members of the orchestra performed duets by Mary and Myra Brooks, Melanie Wright and Ben Smith, Cheryl Beasley and Ruth Matthews, solos by Pauline Nixon, David Hoffman, Alison Worthington and our Music Director Marion Szuman. Amici (Marion Szuman, Melanie Wright, Ben Smith, Mary Smith, Ruth Matthews, Cheryl Beasley) also performed while there was a 3rd Class performance made up of member of the thirds section (Myra Brooks, Margaret Haffenden, Ruth Matthews, Alison Worthington, Anita Boothby and Patrick Jordan). The conclusion of the concert featured the premiere of 'Tillingbourne Rhapsody' composed by Ben Smith in celebration of this milestone. Ben who has been a member of the orchestra for almost a decade, has found strength of character and personality in the individuals of the orchestra. The Russian these are fire and spirited which matches the Tilingbourne temperament. It was written with the hope of capturing some of the fund and excitement experienced every week at rehearsals. Ian Hutson and his Scottish Dance Band have released a new CD, ‘The Silver Milestone’, recorded live at the Ballintuim Village Hall, Perthshire, to celebrate the hall’s 25th anniversary and the monthly dances held in the hall. Bandleader Ian Hutson and Hall Chairperson Ann Martin selected a mix of favourite tunes and dances for this live recording along with a new dance devised by Ann called ‘The Silver Milestone’. The sleeve notes include dance instructions for ‘The Silver Milestone’. Roman Jbanov and Alexai Birioukov Concert, Pierrefitte-sur-Loire – Franceby Rob Howard |
Accordionist Roman Jbanov and the balalaika player Alexei Birioukov perform a programme of Russian music in concert on Friday December 21st, 7pm, at the Salle Des Fetes, Pierrefitte-sur-Loire, Auvergne, central France. Admission: 20 Euro, 15 Euro concessions. Roman Jbanov was born in the Ukraine in 1976. He began playing the accordion at the age of six years of age, and in 1988 he entered the Secondary Special Music School (S.S.M.S) Lyceum attached to the M. I. Glinka Novosibrisk State Conservatory, and in 1994 entered the M.I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory. He went on to win many prizes in competitions including the CMA Trophee Mondial in 1997, and tour internationally. On Thursday December 27th, 7pm, a concert titled ‘Zwischen den Jahren’ (Between the years) takes place at Alten Schule, Rosenhofstr 104, 67677 Enkenbach-Alsenborn, Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The entrance is free, though donations are requested. The performers include special guest Mary Tokarski, from the USA, Ralf Bethke, Martin Kotzen, and the Alsenborner Accordion Orchestra. Mary Tokarski, from Connecticut, is a highly respected concert accordionist, who previously has represented the USA at the CIA Coupe Mondiale in Belgium and France. She has performed in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Switzerland, and the UK. She has been President of the American Accordionists' Association (AAA) and now Vice-President, she serves as a AAA delegate to the Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes (CIA) and a board member of the Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG) and is a teacher of the accordion and piano. |

Foster & Allen ‘Putting on the Style’ Tour – Irelandby Rob Howard |
The ever popular duo Foster & Allen embark on a tour of Ireland from December 27th until January 26th that takes in venues in many parts of the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland. The concert dates are listed on the poster. Foster & Allen are accordionist Mick Foster and singer/guitarist Tony Allen. They began performing together in 1975, playing ‘easy listening’ songs and tunes including some traditional Irish music. They have earned a large worldwide following, their concerts are usually sell outs, and few accordion acts anywhere are as popular with the general public. In 1979 they released the single ‘A Bunch of Thyme’ in Ireland, which became their first top-selling No. 1 single in the Irish charts, also repeating the feat in the UK. Several other hit singles and albums followed, and the duo became internationally popular. They have to date achieved album and DVD sales in excess of 22 million worldwide. Mick Foster was taught to play the accordion by Sister Agnes Murray, a nun of the Mercy Order in Ballymahon, County Longford, and by Frankie Gavigan. Main influences on his early playing were Jimmy Shand and Will Starr. In 1968 and 1970 Mick Foster won the All Ireland Piano Accordion Championship at the Fleadh Cheoil. He has stated that his accordion would be the last thing in life he would be prepared to give up. |

Veikko Ahvenainen and his wife Carina Nordlund perform as a duet a New Year’s Day concert on January 1st, 7pm-9pm, at the Yllas National Park, Finland. Ylläs is located 150 km north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, in Scandinavia. Veikko Ahvenainen is a famous accordion virtuoso. He has performed with symphony orchestras, in night clubs, concert halls, churches, schools and ballrooms, as well as on radio and television. In addition he has composed numerous pieces of music as well as arrangements and study books for the accordion, and has also composed classical works for accordion, chamber and symphony orchestras. Both he and Carina Nordlund have made numerous recordings. Zoltan Orosz performs in concert on January 2nd, 7pm, at the Theatre Hall, MOMkult, Budapest. This will be Orosz’s 5th New Year concert at MOMkult. The band led by Zoltan Orosz includes Mihály Borbély - wind instruments, György Ferenczi – accordion, Zoltán Lantos – violin, Miklós Lukács – dulcimer Gábor Dörnyei – drums, Kornél Horváth – percussion, and Béla Lattmann - bass guitar. Zoltan Orosz studied the accordion and the organ at the Bela Bartok Conservatory in Budapest and at the Franz Liszt College, Budapest. Alex Ross, from Edinburgh, is an accordionist, bandleader of the Canongate Cadjers Ceilidh Band, an accordion technician and a retailer of new and used accordions. Leading Italian jazz accordionist Renzo Ruggieri performs in concert on Tuesday January 14th, 6.30pm, at the special school of music attached to the Senior Conservatory (NSMSH), Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia. The concert is an event in the Malannin Festival, January 9th to 15th, featuring several accordionists. Renzo Ruggieri has performed all over the world to great acclaim. He specialized in jazz piano and accordion, has recorded numerous CDs, and written music and teaching methodology. He was the first accordionist in the world to record a completely improvised work on his CD, ‘Solo Accordion Project’, and is Italy’s first ‘jazz accordion’ teacher. Renzo Ruggieri is the Artistic Director of the Pineto Accordion Jazz Festival. |

On Saturday January 25th, 7pm, there will be a Burns Night Supper featuring dinner with Scottish entertainment and dancing at the House of the Brotherhood of Black Heads, Pikk 26, 10133 Tallinn, Estonia. The event is organised by the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce. This magnificent red-carpet evening includes traditional Scottish cuisine, Scottish craft beer from Loch Lomond, whisky, live music from the Midgies Ceilidh Band, ceilidh dancing, bagpipes, kilts and all the traditions of the most glamorous night of the year. ? The piping in, address and toasting of the haggis will be conducted by piper Philip G. L. Barlow. The ceilidh dancing will be led by the live band from Scotland - The Midgies. Accordionist Athos Bassissi (picture above) and pianist Massimo Tagliata perform together in concert on Wednesday January 29th, 9pm, at L’Altro Teatro, Galleria Giuseppe Carretti, Cadelbosco di Sopra, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Athos Bassissi studied the accordion and bandoneon with Glauco Caminati and Iller Pattacini, and developed a passion for the tango. He studied clarinet at the ‘Achille Peri’ Institute of Reggio Emilia, and then moved to Paris, where he performed for three years with the orchestra "Varietè Française", deepening his love for musette and tango. Later he played in Django's Fingers, a gypsy jazz group, and with them he explored the manouche jazz of the 1940s. He currently accompanies the Colombian tenor Hector Hernandez and the Italian-Latinoamerica Association, performing Latin American songs. |

Nova Wan is a former international competitor who achieved 3rd place in the Virtuoso Entertainment category at the 2009 Coupe Mondiale. His tutor was Crystal Wang of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). After graduation, Nova Wan has continued composing and arranging, and is now a well known composer and arranger as well as accordion teacher at the Shanghai Childrens Palace and Conductor of the Shanghai Accordion Alliance Orchestra. Nova Wan is going to release his compositions over the coming months. Just released is: Catalog: nova141 Sailing Apart (solo) composed by Toshiko Esaki, arranged by Nova Wan.
