Le Festival d’accordéon Asia Pacific 2015 « was Rocking » - Chine, Corée du Sud

2015 Asia Pacific Accordion Festival

Around 1960, Angelica Bargou became a trusted life-long friend to the Deffner family and for the next 50 years travelled extensively with Faithe Deffner to accordion events all over the USA and the globe.

Angelica was widely known in the accordion world and being quite a personality, was well liked and had many accordion friends.

Angelica had recently contracted cancer and became unable to walk, so at 88 years of age she needed care. An's friend Evelyn, in Virginia Beach visited regularly and told An's German family, that An was at peace when she died.

An had told me in a very nice phone conversation recently, that she was "ready", and had enjoyed a "great life".

If you would like to send a note to the family of Angelica Bargou, please airmail her nephew:

Farfisa Day, Camerano – Italy

Farfisa logoPicture above of Farfisa name on an 1960's organ. Following the success of the previous editions of the Farfisa Day in Camerano, Ancona, the 4th edition took place at the end July and was organized by its founder, Claudio Capponi of Osimo, the town of Camerano, and the Pro Loco.

Claudio has collaborated for 22 years with the company Farfisa, which was founded in 1946 and closed in 1998. After creating the website www.capponiclaudio.it, which to date has exceeded 600,000 visits, the idea was born to organize an annual meeting for all friends of this historic factory that produced very high quality musical instruments and employed thousands of people in the territory around Ancona.

The program of this day was: welcome of all participants by the city administration with the screening of two historical films from the early sixties, guided tour of the caves located under city of Camerano; lunch at The Three Oaks with small presents for all participants, and finally a visit to the exhibition of historical instruments made by Farfisa. Amongst the many instruments on display was the historic ‘Compact Duo’ used by Richard Wright of Pink Floyd in live concert in Pompei (without public).

This exhibition will soon will become a museum curated by Claudio Capponi and Professor Sandro Strologo. The meeting ended with a concert by the group Farfisa Vintage Quartet, conducted by Maestro Pino Gulizia, former demonstrator Farfisa, and with the singers Angela Ricciardi and Patrizia Giardini. 150 participants attended with event and came from Piedmonte, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Umbria, and Marche.

Antique Accordion Display @ Auchtermuchty Festival, Scotland – UK

Caroline HuntA highlight of the Auchtermuchty Festival this year was a fabulous exhibition of 60 historic accordions, and related original catalogues, in the Victoria Hall on Saturday August 8th. Caroline Hunt (picture left) brought them along, from the 300 in her Antique Accordion Museum, Scotland, collection, to put them on display.

There was a great deal of interest from both old and young, with lots of discussion, reminiscences and questions being asked, and various players, notably Harry Hussey, Bruce Lindsay, and Jock the Box, trying out some of the fine old instruments from Caroline's collection - and their music even inspired a spontaneous display of dancing!

Some of these accordions were previously on display at Bogbain Farm, near Inverness, and Caroline would love to find a permanent home for them all, where they can be enjoyed like this all the time by people.

‘14 Years Ago’: Mikhail Gorbachev receives an Accordion, Italy, August 2001

Castelfidardo logoThe Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending August 17th 2001 featured a report that former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev had been given an accordion on a visit to Italy. More recently current Russian President Vladimir Putin has been pictured holding a bandoneon on a visit to Argentina. Will this trend continue? Can we expect to see US President Barack Obama with an accordion anytime soon?!!

Mikhail Gorbachev and the Accordion – Italy
Contributed by Holda Paoletti-Kampl

During a recent visit to the Marche region to present the Earth Charter, Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the Soviet Union, Nobel peace prize recipient and current president of Green Cross (a non-governmental organization for the support of the poor), visited the town of Loreto. On this occasion the town of Castelfidardo, represented by Deputy Mayor Mirco Soprani, presented him with its new tourist guide and with an accordion.

Needless to say, Mr. Gorbachev appreciated the gift. "I will put it in my private study, it's beautiful", he said upon receiving the accordion.

Accollage was founded in 1985 as the National Youth Accordion Orchestra of Lower Saxony and was open solely to young talented accordionists. It has since progressed to include accordion players, drummers and bassists of all ages.

“Concerts like this and the recent MugStock festival will hopefully lead to more events taking place within the breathtaking grounds of Mugdock Country Park - with resulting benefits for the park and the East Dunbartonshire economy.”

New CD Valentino è Tango by Renzo Ruggieri - Italy

Valentino è Tango CD CoverA new CD titled Valentino è Tango by Renzo Ruggieri has been released. Catalog: rruggieri11

Renzo writes:
"It's not jazz, tango and not even a play with music. In opera singing, drama/text steal the limelight from the music, hence the need to create a formula that would put the music in the foreground without losing the pathos of the story.

The formula adopted is "Jazz Concert with a text comment,".

It is structured in five scenes, introduced by a text with improvised music in the background (IG in titles means "Guided Improvisations"), followed by the music itself."

For reprocessing of famous tangos, Renzo Ruggieri has followed a procedure, freely improvising variations for each song; and at a later stage, he has selected and assembled the music, while maintaining the spirit of the first improvisation.

The CD Valentino è Tango is available online, Catalog: rruggieri11
