| Video of Raffaele Damen performing for the semi finals. It began in Pesaro, 4th March when young accordionist Raffaele Damen greatly impressed the four judges of "Italy's Got Talent", on Friday night TV Channel 8. The judges unanimously gave a "Yes". "I can better express my emotions through the accordion," said Raffaele Damen before his performance, to the four judges who looked at him intrigued. In particular, Nina Zilli asked him why he chose to "play the accordion?". Raffaele Damen explained "I'm living in a family of musicians, and as a child, when I just saw the accordion for the first time, I told my parents that I wanted to play it", said Raffaele. On the 21st April in the second semi finals, Raffaele Damen performed and so impressed the jury, that he is now through to the Finals of the "Italy's Got Talent". Raffaele Damen was born in Pesaro, Italy. He graduated in accordion from the Conservatory "G. Rossini" of Pesaro with full marks and honours. Later he deepened his studies at the Folkwang Universität der Künste of Essen in Germany. He has been lucky to study with Maestri Mie Miki and Paolo Vignani. He has attended master classes with Ivano Battiston, Stefan Hussong, Matti Rantanen, Corrado Rojac and others. |

Video von Heinz Siemens.Dick Contino ist ein berühmter US-amerikanischen Sänger und Akkordeonist. Contino wurde in Fresno / Kalifornien am 17. Januar 1930 geboren. Er studierte Akkordeon in erster Linie mit dem in San Francisco ansässigen Lehrer Angelo Cognazzo und gelegentlich mit Guido Deiro in Los Angeles um selbst später einer der berühmtesten amerikanischen Akkordeonisten zu werden. Lesen Sie eine sehr leidenschaftliche „Reflektion“ über den einzigartigen Dick Contino, der am 19. April 2017 verstarb.  Der nationale Akkordeonwettbewerb für Kinder und Jugendliche wurde in Ostfinnland in Lappeenranta am vergangenen Wochenende durchgeführt. Der Wettbewerb „My harmonikkaa soit“ ( „Ich spiele Akkordeon“) wird bereits kontinuierlich seit 1973 organisiert.In sechs Kategorien gab es 125 Teilnehmer im Alter von 6 Jahren bis 18 Jahren. Die Grundidee der dreitägigen Veranstaltung ist es, Kindern die Möglichkeit zu geben, zuzuhören und sich zu treffen. Zugleich ist der Wettbewerb die wichtigste jährliche Veranstaltung und Treffen der finnischen Akkordeonlehrer. Die Gewinner der Top-Kategorie (bis 18 Jahre) waren Viivi Tigerstedt und Jaakko Jukonen. Beide Gewinner lernen an der Sibelius Akademie Jugendabteilung , um sich auf eine professionelle musikalische Karriere vorzubereiten. Viivi nahm im Junior Coupe Mondiale in 2015 teil und Jaakko wird im 2017 World Junior Coupe konkurrieren. Ihre Programme bestand aus barocker und zeitgenössischer Musik. In diesem Wettbewerb sind die Endergebnisse pädagogisch gesehen, sehr locker. Das Ziel ist, Kinder zu ermutigen, weiter ihre musikalischen Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln. Als Preis erhält jeder einzelner Spieler zu Diplom und eine kleine Trophäe, aber das wichtigste Detail sind die persönlichen Kommentare, die von der Jury geschrieben werden. Dies ist sehr wichtig, Feedback statt kalter Punkte. Das Programm besteht aus allen Arten von pädagogischer Musik. In den mittleren Kategorien gibt es Teststücke, die von Susanne von Veli Kujala und Antti Leinonen und Markus Fagerudd komponiert wurden. Die „My Harmonikkaa soit“ - kurz „MSH“ genannt - wird von dem Akkordeonlehrerverband in Zusammenarbeit mit der finnischen Akkordeon Assoziation und dem finnischen Akkordeon Institut organisiert. In diesem Jahr wurde der Wettbewerb vom Musikinstitut von Lappeenranta Stadt veranstaltet. Der nächste Wettbewerb wird im April 2018 in Lapua, West-Finnland stattfinden. |

 Am 20. April feierte die gebürtige US-Amerikanerin Willoughby Ann Walshe ihren 80. Geburtstag – in Europa. In der Akkordeonszene bekannt geworden ist die Wirtschaftsjournalistin durch ihre vielbeachteten und erfolgreichen Übersetzungen von herausragenden Fachbüchern wie der deutschen Fassung der russischen Publikation von Friedrich Lips „Die Kunst des Bajanspiels“ Catalog: kslips01 in die englische Sprache („The Art of Bayan Playing“) Catalog: kslips00 erschienen im Karthause-Schmülling Verlag, Kamen, Deutschland. Als freie Mitarbeiterin der Redaktion der Musikfachzeitung Intermusik besuchte sie über viele Jahre hinweg zahlreiche Akkordeonveranstaltungen und wurde zu einem ausgewiesenen Kenner der Akkordeonszene. In einem eigenen Buchtitel über die Akkordeon-Events in der Welt, dem „Walshe Essential Guide to Accordion and Harmonica Events“ Catalog: kswalshe00 (ebenfalls im Karthause-Schmülling Verlag erschienen) hat sie ihr Wissen eindrucksvoll für die Öffentlichkeit zusammengefaßt.  Japanese accordion virtuoso Mie Miki has recorded twelve of the 48 pairs of preludes and fugues from JS Bach’s ‘Well Tempered Clavier’, a demanding work more usually performed by pianists and harpsichord players. Mie Miki performs the music from the original keyboard score without making any alterations to facilitate the transition to the accordion.This recording is issued by Arkiv Music, and will be released on May 6th, the day before World Accordion Day. Advance orders are being taken. Mie Miki was born in Tokyo in 1956. At the age of four she began to study the accordion, and she made her first radio broadcast for NHK in Tokyo at the age of eight. In 1981, 1985 and 1986 she was invited to introduce the instrument in China by means of concerts and master classes. In 1989 she was awarded the Förderungspreis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen for young artists. More than 50 solo and chamber works have been composed at Mie Miki’s instigation, by composers such as Toshio Hosokawa, Adriana Hölszky, H.J.Hespos, Nicolaus A.Huber, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Maki Ishii and Yuji Takahashi. As a soloist, Mie Miki has appeared with orchestras such as the Suisse Romande Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Belgian National Orchestra. A concert series entitled ‘Mie Miki Accordion Works’, featuring numerous premières, takes place every year in Tokyo. Mie Miki is professor at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany.  The well-known book "The Art of Bayan Playing: Technique, Interpretation, and Performance of Playing the Accordion Artistically" Catalog: kslips00 is published as an English version of the German book "Die Kunst des Bajanspiels" Catalog: kslips01 by legendary bayan virtuoso and pedagogue Prof. Friedrich Lips, and published by Karthause-Schmülling (Kamen, Germany). For some months the book has been the subject of astronomically high prices in specialist circles of the international accordion scene, because it was sold out until recently: On Internet platforms, for example, 234.95 Euro (at amazon.de ) or 162,74 Euro (at amazon.fr) for a used (!) edition of the legendary specialist book or 244,12 Euro (at amazon.fr) for a "new" edition. At the lowest price, it was available as a used edition on amazon.com for US$ 66.45 "These spectacularly high prices for the softcover book reflect impressively and quite correctly the outstanding specialist books' content," says Prof. Ulrich Schmülling, publisher of the book.  Texas Folklife’s annual ‘Big Squeeze 2017’ accordion contest finals for up-and-coming Texas musicians and concert takes place on Saturday April 22nd, 1pm to 5pm, at The Bullock Texas State History Museum, Austin, Texas. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. The contest, for those aged 21 years of age or younger, involves players in all genres of the Lone Star State’s accordion-based music, including German, Czech, Polish polka, Creole, Cajun, and zydeco; and conjunto, norteño, and Tejano.The concert features the finalists and accordionists Rio Jordan (Conjunto), Ruben Paul Moreno (Zydeco), and The Gulf Coast Playboys (Cajun). The following day, Sunday April 23rd, 11am until 12.30pm, there is the Big Squeeze Brunch After Party at Texas Folklife, 1708 Houston St, Austin, TX 78756.  On Monday April 24th, 7.30pm, accordionist Antonio Spaccarotella gives a world premiere performance of his composition ‘Oriental Tango’, with a symphony orchestra conducted by Renzo Ruggieri, at the Teatro Campus F. Tonnara, Amantea (Cs), Italy. This special concert is an event in the International Accordion Week’, from April 20th to April 25th, organized by Marco Gemelli, in conjunction with the Conservatorio di Musica ‘P.I. Tchaikovsky’. Amantea is a town and comune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of southern Italy. It is a tourist centre on the southern Tyrrhenian Sea coast. |

 On Thursday April 27th, 6.30pm, accordionist Stanislav Angelov and his CT Tango Enemble perform a concert titled ‘Tango Story at Suidoosterfees’ at The Artscape Theatre Centre, Cape Town, Western Cape.Stanislav Angelov studied the accordion in his native Bulgaria, and received a degree in accordion in 1991, after which he taught at the ‘Constantine Preslavsky’ University, Shumen.
