Art Van Damme (1920-2010), Kalifornien – USAby Rob Howard |
 Art Van Damme wurde am 9. April 1920 in Norwaz, Michigan geboren, wuchs aber in Chicago auf. Er erhielt ab seinem Alter von neun Jahren klassischen Akkordeonunterricht und entdeckte als Teenager die Jazzwelt – inspiriert durch Aufnahmen von Benny Goodman. Im Jahre 1941 wurde er Mitglied der Ben Bernie's Band und von 1945 bis 1960 arbeitete er für ABC und spielte für 'The Dinah Shore Show "," Tonight“, „The Dave Garroway Show " und andere Radio-und TV-Shows mit Garroway. Er zeichnete 130 Episoden der 15-minütigen "Art Van Damme Show" für ABC-Radio auf. Seine Karriere war ab den 40er Jahren besonders erfolgreich mit vielen Aufnahmen. Van Damme Tourneen durch Europa und war auch beliebt bei den Jazz-Hörer in Japan, und regelmäßig gewonnen Downbeat "USA"-Magazin Leser Poll für sein Instrument. Er tourte in Russland und Neuseeland. Im Jahr 2005 wurden Art Van Damme, Myron Floren und Dick Contino - drei All-American-Akkordeon-Legenden - alle im Las Vegas Convention Akkordeon (Las Vegas Accordion Convention), und die folgenden Jahre Kunst geehrt wurde der Ehrengast bei der "Akkordeons International 2006 'Festival, held at Caister, UK. Art Van Damme spielte in seinen besten Jahren so viele Konzerte in Clubs, Hotels und Konzert-Bühnen in den USA und Europa, dass man ihm nachsagte, nie üben zu müssen. Er war ständig in Aktion, die Entwicklung um seine Fähigkeiten und das Repertoire weiter zu entwickeln, eine Art von Vorreiterrolle zur Nutzung des Akkordeons als Jazz-Lead-Instrument. Seine Spielweise war so einflussreich, dass er die meisten Jazz-Akkordeonisten der westlichen Welt beeinflusste. Ein Musikwissenschaftler hat folgende nette Bemerkung über ihn gemacht: "Der coolste Typ „to swing“ das Akkordeon und der es wagte einen bisher unbekannten Weg zu gehen: Jazz-Akkordeon". Art Van Damme starb am 15. Februar 2010 im Alter von 89 Jahre nach einer schweren Lungenentzündung. Er hatte drei Kinder und sechs Enkelkinder. Obwohl er nach Florida zurückgezogen hatte, spielte er nach wie vor sein geliebtes Instrument bis fast bis zum Alter von 90 Jahren. 2010 ‘Musikmesse’, Frankfurt - Deutschlandby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
 Die internationale Fachmesse für Musikinstrumente, Noten, Musik-Produktionen und Musik-Geschäftsbeziehungen findet in Frankfurt am Main, vom 24. bis 27. LAA Junior Sektion Projekt, Klaipėda - Litauenby Martynas Levickis |

 "Nauji Vejai" ( "The Winds of Change") ist ein neues Projekt in Litauen, welches versuch Junior-Akkordeonisten in ein aktives Musikleben miteinzubeziehen. Diese Idee stammt vom Akkordeonisten Raimondas Sviackevičius, Dozent an der Litauischen Musikakademie in Vilnius. Das Ziel des Projektes ist, jungen Menschen mit neuen Ideen das Akkordeon in geeigneter Form – sowohl im modernen als auch klassischem Musikbereich zu präsentieren. Die litauische Akkordeonisten Gemeinschaft (LAA) war in der Lage über 60 junge und interessante Akkordeonisten für die Juniorsektion zu aktivieren. Dieses Projekt ermöglicht Jugendliche sich als professionelle Musiker und qualifizierte Organisatoren weiter zu entwickeln. Am 5. Februar fand die erste LAA Junior-Sektionssitzung in Klaipėda statt, zu der Akkordeonisten aus allen Teilen des Landes an der offenen Diskussion der Konferenz teilnahmen. Es wurde über bestehende Probleme und möglichen Lösungen diskutiert und über Möglichkeiten zur Darstellung des Akkordeons in der klassischen Musik Welt erörtert. Während der Konferenz gab es eine Live-Video-Vorführung mit Akkordeonisten aus der Royal Academy of Music in London. Raimondas Sviackevičius erläutert die Grundidee des Projekts und künftige Aktivitäten in Litauen. Professor Owen Murray und Gastprofessor Friedrich Lips aus Russland, befürworteten dieses neue große Projekt mit besten Wünschen für eine erfolgreiche Zukunft. Die Veranstaltung endete mit einem großen Gala-Konzert in einem voll besetztem Saal der Klaipeda Universität statt! Ein Konzert-Programm mit einem vielfältigem Spektrum an Repertoire vom Barock bis zur Original-Akkordeon-Musik, an denen mehr als 20 junge und vielversprechende Künstler teilnahmen. Das Projekt und andere Events sollen in möglichst vielen Städten in Litauen aufgeführt werden, vor allem weil die Jugendlichen großes Interesse zeigen und sehr inspiriert sind. | Am Samstag, 27. Februar findet im Ramen des Projektes RE.T.I.C.A. (Territoriales Netzwerk für Innovation Angewandter Kreativität) von der Gemeinde Stradella, der Stiftung Cologni für Kunst und Handwerk, und dem Zentrum Celit – Förderung für integrierte Arbeit, ein einzigartiger Event für die Herstellung von speziellen handgemachten Akkordeons, die der historischen Stadt Stradella zugewiesen werden, sowie die Exzellenz der Handwerkskunst in der Region Lombardei.  'Les As du Musette - Gus Viseur in Brussels' is a compilation CD of vintage recordings made in Brussels during the war years by leading musette accordionist Gus Viseur, playing alongside numerous top jazz/swing musicians. Viseur was the first accordionist of significance to play jazz in the Hot Club style, having mixed socially and played with 'Hot Club de France' stars Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, and their like in the 1930s. These recordings, which are really very much an ensemble effort, make great listening, and are sure to appeal to those who like the Hot Club jazz style. The sound quality is excellent, the playing is fantastic, and the music is lively and uplifting. The CD, available via Amazon, also includes informative sleeve notes in French and English. Belgian-born Gus Viseur (1916-74) moved to Paris in the early 1930s, and became one of the best-known musette accordionists of his era. His musette-based jazz style anticipated later developments in jazz on the accordion. |

| The Harry Hussey ‘80th Birthday Year Tour’ continues with a concert at Harlow Accordion Club, also starring Steve Roxton and The Harlow Accordion Club Band on Thursday February 25th, 7.30pm, at The Links Social Club, Parsloe Road, Harlow, Essex, CM19 4RT. The organizer is Jean Hanger. Harry Hussey’s tour is also a fund raiser on behalf of ‘Accordion Aid’, set up by Charlie Watkins to raise money for homeless people.  Die 38 Kleinen Tage der Harmonika finden am 27/28 Februar 2010 in der Musikstadt Klingenthal, in der seit 1852 Akkordeons produziert werden, wird nun schon zum 38. Mal Gastgeber für die Teilnehmer der „Kleinen Tage der Harmonika“ sein, statt.. Junge Akkordeonisten aus den Freistaaten Sachsen, Thüringen und Bayern, aus der Tschechischen Republik und einem Gastbundesland treffen sich hier, um im fairen Wettstreit ihr Können zu demonstrieren und neben den begehrten Preisen auch Wettbewerbserfahrung zu gewinnen. Für viele Teilnehmer der vergangenen Jahre war diese Veranstaltung der Grundstein für ihre Teilnahme am alljährlich im Mai in Klingenthal stattfindenden Internationalen Akkordeonwettbewerb. Die „Kleinen Tage der Harmonika“ sind ein lebendiges Beispiel für die Realisierung des völkerverbindenden Gedankens der EUREGIO EGRENSIS. Sie sind ein fester Bestandteil im kulturellen Leben der Stadt Klingenthal. Am Samstag 27. Februar 2010 gibt es um 19. Uhr in der Aula am Amtsber in KONYERT mit dem Akkordeonorchester Klingenthal unter der musikalischen Leitung von Karl Lipsius und am Sonntag den 28.  On her forthcoming tour, accordionist Karen Street reveals the influences behind her music, playing tracks from her latest CD ‘Another Story’.  On Saturday March 27th a series of instrumental workshops, organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, take place at Scoil na Mainistreach, Oldtown Road, Celbridge, Kildare, Republic of Ireland. The tutors are:• Fiddle – Tony Linnane and Michelle O’Brien. • Anglo concertina – Noel Hill • Banjo – Brian McGrath. • Flute – Sarah Jane Woods. • Button accordion – Danny O’Mahony. • Tin Whistle – Seán Ryan and Méabh Ní Lochlainn. • Bodhrán - Junior Davey. • Traditional singing – Edel Vaughan • Steps and Sets – Gerard Butler The day starts in Scoil na Mainistreach, Celbridge at 10.45 with registration and grading. The classes follow from 11.30am to 2pm. There is a short break from 2pm to 2.30pm, during which, sandwiches, tea, coffee, water and soft drinks will be provided free of charge. The classes continue at 2.30pm and finish at 4.30pm. The ‘Grand Concert’ starts at 8pm in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth, that night where all the tutors from the workshops will perform.
