Orchestra Concert & Workshop – Germanyby Christine Johnstone |
The Akkordeon-Orchester Wesseling held their 19th orchestra concert & workshop entitled “Playing Together with the Squeeze” (Gemeinsam musizieren mit der Quetsch) on April 4th in Wesseling organised by Anita Brandtstaeter. The event opened with three different student orchestra performances under the direction of Elena Taran (picture below). Participating students were from the Musikschule Emotio, Akkordeon-Spielkreises Niederkassel and Akkordeon-Orchesters Wesseling. These young players entertained with two pieces by Jürgen Schmieder, originally written for accordion soloists and arranged for orchestra by Ronny Fugmann. The orchestra workshop included accordionists that had attended previously plus some brand new participants that had never played in an orchestra before. They presented two very different original compositions for accordion orchestras - "Scherzinetto in C Major" (by Alois Breitfuß) and "Madison Square Dance" (by Johan Nijs). The audience then enjoyed a solo performance by the youngest member, Julia Keil, followed by a finale performance by the Akkordeon-Orchester Wesseling (conducted by Anita Brandtstäter) who entertained with "Por una Cabeza " (by Carlos Gardel), "Choral and Rock Out (Ted Huggens), "Rock 'n Roll is King" (Electric Light Orchestra), "My Way" (Frank Sinatra) plus German Hits by Christan Bruhn and Willi Ostermann. |
