Breaking News: 2020 Coupe Mondiale Competition - Portugalby Kimmo Mattila Secretary General, Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) |
The Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) has received an official letter from the Portuguese authorities informing us that they have been forced to cancel all public events by order of the Central Government. Therefore, our Portugal member Mito Algarvio - Associação de Acordeonistas do Algarve led by President João Pereirais is taking steps to organize within a few weeks, a series of concerts as planned in Faro and Castro Marim, even without audience, to showcase the diversity of the accordion in Portugal. The CIA Executive Committee has assured the maximum support and availability to organize an online event lasting a few days, in the style of World Accordion Day, with interviews, videos, and the streaming of concerts of artists from Portugal. Durant une cérémonie spéciale, Veikko Ahvenainen a été décoré par la Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) de la médaille du mérite, pour sa contribution extraordinaire au mouvement international de l’accordéon. La cérémonie s’est déroulée, le week-end dernier, à la mairie de Jyväskylä. Cette courte cérémonie fut organisée par l’association finoise d’accordéon SHL, avec des discours par le président Kimmo Mattila et Mme Eila Tiainen, qui est la vice-présidente du comité de direction du conseil de la ville de Jyväskylä. Vilma Wiren (16 ans), originaire de Jyväskylä, a joué Veikko Ahvenainen (né en1929) est un accordéoniste finnois qui démarra sa carrière il y’a 75 ans. Il a enregistré plus de 1000 morceaux, publié un nombre important de partitions et de méthodes d’accordéon depuis plus de 60 ans. Veikko Ahvenainen donne continuellement des concerts. Veikko Ahvenainen a fêté son 90ième anniversaire l’année dernière en septembre au Helsinki Finland Hall, donnant un concert devant plus 1400 personnes avec son quartet et des invités. http://www.accordions.com/news.aspx?d=04-Oct-2019&lang=en&s=15851 Veikko Ahvenainen est un membre honoraire de l’association finnoise d’accordéon. Louis Corchia (1935-2020), victime du Coronavirus, Paris – Franceby Rob Howard |
Louis Corchia, un des accordéonistes les plus populaires du musette et joueur de bandonéon. Né dans une famille de musiciens, son père fut l’accordéoniste Primo Corchia (1913-97). En 1951 Louis Corchia a gagné le premier Trophée mondial CMA Trophee qui eut lieu à Londres. La même année, il fut second, derrière Maurice Vittenet à la Coupe Mondiale CIA, qui se tint à Paris. Corchia eut une longue et belle carrière professionnelle en tant que membre d’un orchestre de danse avec tournées aux USA, en URSS, au Japon et autres pays …. Il fit de nombreux enregistrements, apparut dans de nombreuses vidéos, composa et arrangea beaucoup de musique. Louis Corchia fut un contemporain de Yvette Horner, Andre Verchuren, Marcel Azzola, Maurice Larcange, Aimable, Joss Basselli, et est considéré être l’un des derniers grands joueurs de sa génération. Il est mort paisiblement à in Vincennes à Paris, victime du coronavirus à l’âge de 85 ans, et laisse derrière lui sa femme Jeannine. Louis Corchia est terriblement regretté par les accordéonistes de France et du monde entier. Qu’il repose en paix. |
5ième festival d’accordéon de Crakovie – Pologneby Christine Johnstone |
Le 5ième festival de Cracovie se tiendra à Cracovie, en Pologne, du 4 au 11 octobre 2020 sous l’égide de la Art Forum Foundation avec la coordination de Maciej Zimka, Joanna Czuk et Rafal Czuk. Les concerts du festival comporteront 9 catégories : Musique contemporaine– Premières Musique ancienne Musique de chambre Musique de film Musique du monde Musique jazz Musique voix-accordéon Musique improvisée – Intermediaire Instrumental pour théâtre Le but du festival est de présenter la versatilité de l’accordéon dans la musique classique et contemporaine mais aussi dans le jazz, la musique du monde, la musique voix accordéon et le nouveau tango. Concert du duo SaxAkkord à la cathédrale Saint Pierre et Paul à Moscou – Russieby Harley Jones |
Le duo SaxAkkord composé de Arseniy Strokovskiy (accordéon) et Ivan Dyma (saxophone) donnera un concert à la cathédrale Saint Pierre et Paul à Moscou, le 20 septembre à 19h. Le programme qui s’intitule "A travers les âges : Bach, Vivaldi et Piazzolla", inclura un invite spécial, Igor Goldenberg (orgue) et des étudiants de Ivan Dyma – Le large ensemble de saxophonistes de l’institut de musique A.G. Schnittke. Les spectateurs auront le plaisir d’entendre J.S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, J. Gershwin, R. Galliano et A. Piazzolla. Ivan Dyma est un multi-saxophoniste, soliste du GATC I.S.V. Obraztsova, conférencier à l’institut de musique A.G. Schnittke à Moscow. L’accordéoniste Arseniy Strokovskiy est diplomé de l’institut de musique Schnittke et collègue à l’école allemande German DAAD (Haute école de musique de Wurzburg). Vainqueur de nombreuses compétitions internationales. Igor Goldenberg (orgue) est diplomé du conservatoire de Moscou en composition, piano et orgue. The Reading Liederkranz German Singing & Sports Society will hold their annual celebration this year from October 1st to 3rd, 2020 in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA. This year’s event will celebrate the first Oktoberfest – the wedding of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in 1810. Dr Squeezebox - Kermit Ohlinger will be playing each night as the opening act of the entertainment! (picture right). See poster above for details of evening performers. Get crazy and come dressed up in your favorite Oktoberfest character. Trachten wear is welcome or take it up a notch and come as wedding guest of the early 19th Century. Organisers will have their own Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese and are planning re-enactments to go along with the schedule and theme! Nathan Neuman Wins 2020 Song Writing Contest - USAby Christine Johnstone |
Video 1: Nathan Neuman's winning composition "Pass It On" Video 2: Nathan's 3rd place song - "The Next Step" Nathan Neuman is the winner of the International Polka Association 2020 Young Songwriters contest with his song “Pass it On”. Nathan’s song "The Next Step" was co-written with Alli Lange and won 3rd place. The duo originally began writing the song 2½ years ago, but never finished or released it, when they were advised they could enter it in this competition! Congratulations to both musicians from Accordions Worldwide. |
M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov Performing Arts Competition & Festival, Moscow – Russiaby Arseniy Strokovskiy |
The all-Russian open competition and festival of performing arts named after Russian composer M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov will begin on September 25th and run until November 7th, 2020. The competition was organized with the assistance of the Presidential Grants Fund and is dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov. Area competitions will be held in a variety of categories, including accordion and bayan in Moscow, Gatchina, Rostov-on-Don and Kostroma (as the composer once lived there), with the final round in Moscow on November 6th. Participants in the qualifying rounds from regions where COVID-19 travel restrictions are in force can take part in the qualifying rounds of the competition using video recordings. A Gala concert of winners will be held on November 7th at the cultural and educational center "Charge" concert hall in Moscow. Masterclasses, presentations and lectures dedicated to the legacy of M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov will be held during the festival. In addition, the contestant who performs the best work of M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov, will receive an award of 35 thousand rubles. Applications close on September 23rd, 2020. Video: "Fleur de Bossa" by Jacques Pellarin Jacques Pellarin’s composition "Fleur de Bossa" will feature in a new comedy film entitled “French Exit”, starring actress Michelle Pfeiffer! The world premiere will be held at the New York Film Festival on October 11th, 2020. “French Exit” is an upcoming surreal comedy film directed by Azazel Jacobs, based on the novel of the same name by Patrick deWitt, who also wrote the screenplay. The film will be released on February 12th, 2021. |

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their first studio album “Swagger”, Flogging Molly (which includes Matt Hensley on accordion & concertina) are pleased to announce a special, limited edition vinyl box set featuring a remixed & remastered version of the album. The vinyl box set will be limited to 5000 units and available worldwide from Friday, October 23rd. Pre-orders began on Thursday, September 17th, 2020. In celebration of their re-issue, the band from Los Angeles, California, USA livestreamed a free “Halfway To St. Patrick’s Day” all-acoustic, full-band performance on September 17th. The new album will also feature a bonus version of "Sentimental Johnny", a bonus LP featuring three live songs recorded in 2001 at Denver's famed Bluebird Theatre plus a Traditional Irish Set (recorded with Steve Albini in "one take with no overdubs"), a never-before-seen DVD documentary from 2000 including a full live performance, an expanded Lyric Booklet featuring photos from the band's personal collection, Flogging Molly logo vinyl slip mat, embroidered patch and four badge Swagger button pack (see picture above right). The Accordion Café Dortmund had planned to begin their monthly "Open Stage" events at the Fritz Henssler Haus in Dortmund, which features a relaxed evening with hits of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. However, their September events had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 regulations. Instead, they decided to give three online Accordion Café Dortmund Schlagerabend concerts so everyone could enjoy some accordion music. Unfortunately their Accordion Café in October and November 2020 will not take place either. Further information to come re December, 2020. |

The Virtual Accordion Camp III will take place online this weekend. The event will include a variety of workshops and concerts on September 19th. Karen Tweed will run a workshop entitled “How to make a simple tune sing” and “It’s all Bass and Bellows”. Alex Cumming will run a workshop “How to sing while playing the accordion” and Rachel Bell will run a workshop called “The Bal Folk Scottish”. These will be followed by a social hour, then an evening concert. See poster above for details. |

Black Pencil will perform two concerts at Goede Rede in Almere, Netherlands on September 25th at 4pm and 8pm. The concert is entitled “The Best Of…..” and will include music from the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries of Dowland, Morley, Byrd, J.S. Bach and Vivaldi combined with contemporary works by Kate Moore. Black Pencil consists of Marko Kassl (accordion), Jorge Isaac (recorder), Matthijs Koene (panflute), Esra Pehlivanli (violin) and Enric Monfort (percussion). It is a unique group with a wide repertoire. Bookings are essential due to Covid-19 seating distances and this is why the ensemble are performing 2 concerts. Szilvia Csaranko (accordion - picture above left) and Susi Evans (clarinet - picture above right) will hold a Klezmer Music Weekend at Halsway Manor National Centre for Folk Arts in Somerset, UK from October 2nd to 4th, 2020. The duo invite musicians to explore this celebratory, soulful and melodic music from the nineteenth century Jewish Eastern Europe. Attendees will go at their own pace, learning tunes and gaining confidence with the modes, ornamentation, rhythms and accompaniment that give klezmer music its unique flavour. Play in small ensembles, be part of the Halsway Klezmer Orchestra and learn steps for the dances that the music accompanies. There will also be a tutors’ performance and plenty of opportunity for jamming in the bar! Susi Evans & Szilvia Csaranko are passionate about the tradition of klezmer music. Le reporter Andy Bryenton du journal Weekend Lifestyler a fait un article de 2 pages sur Kevin Friedrich le week-end dernier. Kevin voyage deux fois par ans de New York où il vit, à Dargaville en Nouvelle Zélande, où il a grandit, pour y organizer des concerts pour les locaux afin de soutenir le musée de Dargaville. Le musée de Dargaville est l’hôte de Accordion Gems par Kevin Friedrich – Une collection importante d’accordéons à travers le temps. C’est la seule exposition de ce genre dans l’hémisphère sud.
