Veikko Ahvenainen Ceremony to Present CIA Merit Award - Finlandby Kimmo Mattila Secretary General, Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) |

In a special ceremony Veikko Ahvenainen was presented the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Merit Award recognising oustanding contribution to the international accordion movement. The ceremony last week-end was in the City Hall of Jyväskylä. This short ceremony was organised by the Finnish Accordion Association SHL with speeches by President Kimmo Mattila and Mrs. Eila Tiainen, who is vice chairperson of the Executive Board of the Jyväskylä City Council. Vilma Wiren (16 years) from Jyväskylä was playing. Veikko Ahvenainen (b. 1929) is a Finnish accordionist, who began his public career over 75 years ago. He has recorded more than 1,000 tracks, published huge amount of music books and accordion methods since more that 60 years. Veikko Ahvenainen plays continuously concerts. Veikko Ahvenainen celebrated his 90th anniversary last year in September in Helsinki Finland Hall, playing a concert for 1400 people together with his quartet and guest soloists. http://www.accordions.com/news.aspx?d=04-Oct-2019&lang=en&s=15851 Veikko Ahvenainen is a Honorary Member of the Finnish Accordion Association.
