Cette année, la convention de l’Association Nationale d’Accordéon (NAA) se tiendra à l’hotel Westin, Dallas, Texas, du 9 au 13 mars.  Le cinquième Festival Accordion Art (Accordion Art Festival) aura lieu à Pineto les 11 et 12 juin. Le directeur artistique est Renzo Ruggieri. Le festival comprendra: Le Italia Award, une compétition internationale ouvertes aux catégories classique, variété et accordéon digital, piano/keyboard, guitare, chant, jazz, composition, groupes. 2011ArtFestival. Le Orpheus Award, un prix de la critique pour les CDs et MP3, divisé en catégories classique, jazz et world music.  La première competition international pour les jeunes musiciens ‘Kaunas Sonorum – 2011’ aura lieu du 31 mars au 2 avril à Kaunas, Lithuania. Le délai d’inscription est fixé au premier mars. La Kaunas Accordion Society a contribué à l’organisation de cet évènement. Vous pouvez télécharger les règlements ici : 2011SonorumDurant l’évènement, il y aura des concours pour accordéon, piano, instruments à cordes, instruments à vent et chanteurs. Chaque catégorie est séparée en différentes catégories d’âge et tous les participants doivent jouer par cœur. Le vainqueur de chaque catégorie participera au tour final de la compétition.  Les instruments Roland étaient très en vue lors du 53 ème Grammy Award de Los Angeles, Californie, le 13 février 2011. Durant un concert par l’icône Bob Dylan, Ben Lovett, du groupe de rock britanique Mumford and Sons, a joué sur un FR-7x. Les membres du Mumford and Sons sont réputés être de multi-instrumentistes et Ben (chant, claviers, accordéon et batterie) ne fait pas exception.Mumford et Sons a été créé en 2007 par Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, et Ted Dwane. Récemment, le groupe a été nominé pour plusieurs Grammy Awards et a gagné le Brit Award 2011 dans la catégorie « meilleur album », pour son album « Sigh No More ». Dans une interview récente pour Roland TV, Ben parlait du V Piano et des raisons de son choix pour l’accordéon FR-7x. Il a expliqué qu’une des raisons qui ont motivé son choix était la difficulté d’utiliser un accordéon acoustique durant un concert en live. Le FR-7x lui offrait donc la solution idéale, qui lui a permis de trouvé le son parfait qui se combinait avec les systèmes de bande-son.  Résidant français depuis cinq années maintenant, le bras droit de Frédéric Deschamps (photo de droite ci-dessus) sera en tournée mondiale pour ce début de printemps 2011. Après Shanghai en janvier dernier, Grayson Masefield (Photo en bas à droite) se produira à Washington (USA), Helsinki (Finlande), Samara (Russie), Frankfurt (Allemagne), Montrond les Bains (France), etc. et ce jusqu’au 10 avril. Lors de cette tournée, Grayson jouera en première mondiale, la toute nouvelle pièce de célèbre compositeur Finlandais Petri Makkonen (compositeur de « Disco Toccata » et « Flight Beyond The Time » pour ne citer que les plus célèbres). La nouvelle composition « Tango Toccata » s’annonce déjà comme l’un des tubes du répertoire de l’accordéon international pour cette année 2011. La première mondiale de cette pièce sera effectuée lors du concours de Montrond les bains où Grayson sera également membre du jury international.  ‘Whistling Rufus’ is the title of a new CD release featuring classic tracks recorded by the legendary Jimmy Shand & His Band in the 1950s and early 60s. These tracks have been digitally enhanced, and the sound quality is excellent.The 21 tracks include ‘Whistling Rufus’, ‘Balintore Fisherman Polka’, ‘Quarry Knowe Waltz’, ‘The Call o' the Pipes’, ‘Robertson's Rant’, ‘The Angus Reel’, ‘Happy Hours Polka’, ‘The Flowers of Edinburgh’, ‘Bridge of Nairn Strathspey’, ‘The Whistler and his Dog’, ‘Primrose Polka’, ‘Shufflin' Samuel’, ‘The Punch Bowl Reel’. Jimmy Shand (1908-2000) was the most prolific accordionist Scotland has yet produced, with over 60 years of recordings and more than 300 compositions to his name. | The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending February 21st 1997 reported exploits of ‘Bellows and Blades’, an accordion duo who perform whilst ice skating – quite an accomplishment! BELLOWS AND BLADES CONTINUE TO IMPRESS Contributed by Tom Torriglia Bellows and Blades, a duo who play accordion while on in-line skates, recently performed for three days at the NHL Pinnacle Fantasy as part of the NHL's All-Star Game. The event was held at the San Jose Convention Center. They skated through the Center entertaining people, performing to people standing in line to get into the Center, and dining patrons. They certainly got some good press coverage, including a shot on MTV for their Hockey special. The promoters were impressed enough to ask Bellows and Blades to perform at the MLB All-Star game extravaganza in Cleveland from 4th to 8th July. A major piece on the duo (with photos) is appearing in the nationally distributed March issue of In-Line Magazine. |

 On Saturday February 19th, at 10pm, accordionist Sergio Pinget will participate in the nationally televised semi-finals of the ‘Talento Argentina’ show, presented by the Argentinean TV channel Telefe. Contestants are voted through stages each week by in telephone voting after the show. Each show features 9 contestants. The telephone number is 4717 8444. The finals take place on Saturday March 19th, 10pm. Good luck to Sergio! Sergio Pinget (born 1984), from the city of Columbus, competed at festivals, and became an accomplished and well known concert performer, leading his band. In 1998, as his reputation grew in Argentina and also in Brazil, he released his first CD, ‘Comenzando con fe’, followed by ‘Pa que conozcan el chamamé’ and ‘Con el canto nacional’. | Professor Friedrich Lips, of the Gnessin Institute, Moscow, will receive an honorary associateship of the Royal Academy of Music in a presentation ceremony led by Professor Owen Murray. This will be held in the Patrons Room on Wednesday February 23rd at 4.30 pm at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5HT, followed by a reception.
