 The second annual World Concertina Day, sponsored by the International Concertina Association, will be held on February 6th, 2023, the anniversary of the birth of Sir Charles Wheatstone. Since that date falls on a Monday, they also welcome activities on the weekend before that (February 4th and 5th, 2023). The ICA encourages everyone with an interest in the concertina to participate by organizing or taking part in an event in your local area or online. The event will include a variety of online video recordings of concerts and interviews, March of the Concertinas, Zoom sessions, a Museum drop-in day sponsored by the West Country Concertina Players to introduce the public to the world of concertinas at Crewkerne Museum, Somerset, UK, live gatherings throughout the world, workshops, radio and television interviews, displays and much more.  The Scandalli Accordion Factory is the sponsor of the 2022 Video Archive and Education Project, 2022 Coupe Mondiale, 4-9 October, Switzerland.The "Video Archive Education Project" is a project initiated in 2010 by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) with assistance from sponsors and Accordions Worldwide. Videos should be online approximately 90 minutes after the live performance or live competition and viewers will have free downloads of Coupe Mondiale competitions playing a vast range of different types and styles of music. The project includes a video of all the Coupe Mondiale categories and their contestants to be kept in the CIA archives in Finland, which over the coming years will become a wealth of historical recordings, including the premiere of many original accordion works and the emergence of upcoming artists at the Coupe Mondiale. We thank the Scandalli Accordion Factory for their sponsorship enabling this ambitious free project to assist accordion students and tutors throughout the world. |

  The 2nd Istanbul International Accordion Festival was held in Istanbul, Turkey from August 19th to 24th, 2022 organised by Akorder.The festival included the 1st International Istanbul Accordion and Bellows Competition, the 2nd National Accordion and Bellows Competition, MasterClasses, Workshops, Open Ensemble, as well as Loyalty and Commemoration and Festival Concerts. Guest musicians included Aleksa Mirkovic (Serbia), Ruslana Bezpalko (Ukraine), Galimzan Narimbetov (Kazakhistan), Skumbin Miftari (Kosovo) and Marsel Numanaj (Albania). An accordion masterclass was held by Angel Marinov (Bulgaria). | The 2022 "Ural Cup" International Competition for performers on folk instruments will be held online from October 31st to November 4th, 2022 at the Magnitogorsk State Conservatory (Academy) named after M. I. Glinka in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk, Russia. Applications for participation will be accepted until October 15th, 2022. Accordion program requirements as follows. Categories I, II (up to 10 minutes), III category (up to 12 minutes): 1. Performance with elements of polyphonic presentation. 2. Performance of own choice. 3. Performance of a folk theme or popular melody. Category IV (up to 20 minutes): 1. Polyphonic work (invention, canon, fugue). 2. Work of a large form: sonatina (all movements); sonata - the 1st part (necessarily in sonata form), or the 2nd and 3rd parts of the sonata, or the entire sonata; suite or partita - at least three parts; concert or part of a concert. 3. Performance of own choice. Categories V, VI, VII, VIII (up to 30 minutes): 1. A polyphonic piece with a fugue for at least 3 voices. 2. Work of a large form: sonatina (all movements); sonata - the 1st part (necessarily in sonata form), or the 2nd and 3rd parts of the sonata, or the entire sonata; suite or partita - at least three parts; concert or part of a concert. 3.   Ricardo Llanos is the new distributor of his two accordion method books: “Acordeón Divertido” (for free bass button accordion - picture above left) and “Pun Txan Txan” (for standard or Stradella button accordion - picture above right). Both methods are written in Spanish, English and Basque.  It gives me great pleasure to announce that I have completed the expansion of yet another of my 22 original articles on the AAA commissioned concert works each of which appeared annually in the AAA Festival Journal between 1997 and 2019. This article examines the Adagio and Rondo Concertante, for two accordions & orchestra, by Paul Pisk, and Sonatina, for solo accordion, by David Diamond. http://www.ameraccord.com/aaacommissions8.php As with my previous revisions, this one adds more historical and analytical information than was in the original article plus the new and much needed feature of musical examples. Regarding the latter, a new element in this latest revision is the presence of sound files to accompany the musical excerpts of the Pisk work, thus allowing the reader to hear the excerpts while viewing them in print. | “Itrio” will perform their debut concert at the Koncertkirken in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 19th, 2022, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm organised by the Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium (DKDM). The ensemble consists of three Icelandic accordionists: Helga Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir, Jón Þorsteinn Reynisson and Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson. In addition to the trio, accordionist Flemming Viðar Valmundsson will also perform. The festival will include over 20 international artist groups, arts, food, dance, and workshops.   Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Secretary General Kimmo Mattila writes: "The CIA congratulates the 2022 Coupe Mondiale host, the CIA member accordeon.ch upon attracting 83 entries from 23 countries for the 75th Coupe Mondiale in Zofingen, 4-9 October 2022."Even as we witness devastating war in Ukraine and Covid still causing problems, this second "live Coupe Mondiale" with live jury and contestants is clearly very popular with teachers and competitors. Additionally, the CIA has received 60 delegate registrations from 29 national members for the CIA International Congress with many Delegates also participating as jury for the Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships. CIA President Mirco Patarini writes: “We are very happy to have such a large number of competitors, delegates and jury members present for the 75th Coupe Mondiale. We will have a great event with real music in a live situation.
