The 2010 Coupe Mondiale is organised by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) IMC-UNESCO and the national host, the Croatian Accordion Teachers Association (HDHP) headed by President Vjera Odak and Organizing Committee Kristijan Potocnjak, Valentina Basnec and Sasa Bastalec. |

| Als Zeichen dankbarer Anerkennung für hervorragende Verdienste um den Freistaat Sachsen und seine Bevölkerung wurde der Verdienstorden des Freistaates Sachsen gestiftet und erstmals am 27. Oktober 1997 verliehen. Ihn können in- und ausländische Persönlichkeiten für Leistungen erhalten, die insbesondere im politischen, sozialen, kulturellen oder wirtschaftlichen Bereich sowie auf dem Gebiet der Umwelt dem Wohl der Allgemeinheit dienen. Die Zahl der Ordensinhaber darf nicht höher als 500 sein. Die Auszeichnung erhielten bislang 209 Persönlichkeiten. Seit dem 19. August 2010 ist nun auch Manfred Gäbler Träger des Sächsischen Verdienstordens. Im Rahmen einer Feierstunde in der Sächsischen Staatskanzlei in Dresden, bei der auch Bürgermeister Enrico Bräunig und Amtsvorgänger Reiner Schneidenbach anwesend waren, wurde ihm der Orden von Ministerpräsident Stanislaw Tillich verliehen. „Klingenthal - allein der Name ist ihm Berufung für sein Tun und Handeln in seiner Heimatstadt. Sein zielstrebiges Wirken bereits vor, während und nach der friedlichen Revolution diente dem Ansehen seiner Stadt, dem Erhalt des „Internationalen Akkordeonwettbewerbs Klingenthal“, dessen Weiterführung und -entwicklung. Er knüpfte enge und dauerhafte Kontakte zu bedeutenden Akkordeonisten in vielen Ländern der Welt. Er genießt in der internationalen Fachwelt hohes Ansehen, das ihm bereits verschiedene internationale Preise einbrachte. Geschickt verbindet er die Interessen der traditionsreichen Handzuginstrumentenmacherei mit den jährlichen Musiktagen. Als Mitgründer des Musik- und Wintersportmuseums Klingenthal setzt er sich für die Pflege der Geschichte seiner Stadt ein, bei der es nicht allein um den Musikinstrumentenbau, sondern auch um den sehr erfolgreichen Wintersport geht. Manfred Gäbler war auch 19 Jahre als Stadtrat und viele Jahre als ehrenamtlicher Stellvertreter des Bürgermeisters der Stadt Klingenthal tätig. Aktive Arbeit leistete er in der Ökumene.“ heißt es in der Begründung für diese hohe Auszeichnung. Zur Stadtratssitzung am 25. August 2010 wurde Manfred Gäbler (Mitte) zur Verleihung des Sächsischen Verdienstordens offiziell von Bürgermeister Enrico Bräunig (rechts) und den Mitgliedern des Stadtrates beglückwünscht. Das Stadtoberhaupt würdigte in einer kurzen Ansprache die Leistungen und das große Engagement von Manfred Gäbler für Klingenthal und den Internationalen Akkordeonwettbewerb. Der ehemalige Bürgermeister Reiner Schneidenbach (links), der den Orden beantragt hat, war ebenfalls zur Gratulation erschienen. Manfred Gäbler dankte mit herzlichen Worten für die Glückwünsche und erinnerte dabei an die große Bedeutung des Internationalen Akkordeonwettbewerbes.  Eine Team des TV Discovery Kanal besuchte am Montag 11. Oktober die Scandalli Akkordeon Fabrik, Castelfidardo, Ancona um Dreharbeiten aufzunehmen.Das Team wàhlte diese Fabrik, weil die Marke Scandalli weltweiten Ruhm hat und und auch wegen der Tatsache, dass all die verschiedenen Arbeitsvorgànge zur Herstellung von Akkordeons in der der Fabrik vorgenommen werden und somit jeder Produktionsvorgang bei den Dreharbeiten eingebaut werden konnte Die Aufnahmen sind für das Programm "Wie machen die das?", Die Sendung läuft nächsten Jahr (2011) mit einem geschätzten internationalen Zuschauerpublikum von 150 Millionen Perseonen. |

Tommaso Areana gewinnt im Castelfidardo Wettbewerb – Italienby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
 Am Sonntag den 10. Oktober ging die 35. Ausgabe des Internationalen Akkordeon-Wettbewerb in Castelfidardo unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Maestro Paolo Picchio mit Teilnehmern aus rund 25 Ländern und drei von fünf Kontinenten, zu Ende.Trotz einer starken Präsenz von russischen und französischen Gewinner erzielten italienische Kandidaten zwei Siege, einer von ihnen, Thomas Arena. Er holte einen Sieg nach 14 Jahren für Italien in der Kategorie D, Konzertist ohne Altersgrenze. Tommaso Arena hat zahlreiche nationale und internationale Wettbewerbe gewonnen und hat vor kurzem sein Studium mit Auszeichnung am Konservatorium F. Torrefranca Vibo Valentia bestanden. Seine Perfektionierung erlernte er mit Maestro Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi. Der junge Künstler ist bestrebt das Akkordeon Repertoire in der Öffentlichkeit und bei der jüngeren Generation zu fördern.  The annual Roland US V-Accordion Festival was held on September 18th at the Roland US headquarters in Los Angeles, California.The winners were: Junior 1st - Andre Fry, Annapolis Maryland. Andre won a Roland V-Accordion FR-3X. In July Andre won the 2010 AAA’s Elsie M. Bennett Composition Competition, Junior Division, with his composition ‘Czardas’. 2nd - Johan Richard Knoff, Randolf, Vermont Senior 1st - Christopher Gorton, Providence, Rhode Island. Christopher won a Roland V-Accordion FR-7X and will represent the USA on October 16th at the 4th International V-Accordion Festival in Rome, Italy. 2nd - Svetlana Ivanchenko, Dallas, Texas. This year Roland US instituted a ‘Ron Lankford Outstanding Performance Memorial Award’. This award was presented by Faith Lankford, Ron's widow, to junior finalist Hannah Robbins, Elm Creek, Nebraska. Joe Natoli, a Roland Corporation US V-Accordion Product Specialist, performed an outstanding version of his composition ‘Waltz for Ron’ as part of a tribute to the late Ron Lankford. Sergio Scappini rounded off what had been an outstanding festival with a brilliant concert performance, culminating with some famous opera arias, finishing with ‘Nessun Dorma’.  At the age of 104 Tommy Sivell can still hold a tune on his melodeon. Despite being one of the oldest men on Tyneside in the North East of England, the veteran musician loves to entertain in his Kingston Park, Newcastle, care home, to prove he can still play with the pros. Tommy, who lived in Fawdon, Newcastle, before moving to Cranlea care home, taught himself to play the melodion when he was just 17. Since then, he has gathered a collection of over 30 instruments. He still loves to entertain and, when a banjo band visited Cranlea last week, Tommy couldn’t wait to get up on stage. So staff organised a special concert in his honour and last week he was the true star of the show. “I’ve never been quite what you would call professional,” said modest Tommy. “I have always loved playing and I like to keep it up. People in the home like to see me playing as well.” |

 The musical ‘Songs From A Hotel Bedroom’?, with a score by Kurt Weill and featuring accordionist Romano Viazzani, opens this week. The show stars Frances Ruffelle (1994 Eurovision UK contestant) and Nigel Richards as well as two super tango dancers. The story is about a singer a bandleader, a band that tours, romance, heartache...  ACCOsax Freeminded perform on Sunday October 17th, 7.pm – 8.30pm, at the Russian Drama Theatre, J.Basanavicius str. 13, Vilnius, Lithuania. This concert is part of the Vilnius Jazz Festival.The trio ACCOsax Freeminded are Raimondas Sviackevicius – accordion, Jan Maksimovic – sax, and Arkady Gotesman – percussion. Their music combines technical mastery, expression and subtlety, contemporary thinking and echoes from the past. Raimondas Sviackevicius has contributed a great deal to bringing the accordion to the most important music stages and festivals, and to expanding its repertoire. He studied accordion at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT), Lodz (Poland) and Sibelius (Finland) music academies, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (the Netherlands). His competition successes include prizes in four Lithuanian accordion competitions (1988, 1990, 1992 and 1994), and prizes at the ‘Citta di Castelfidardo’ (1996 and 1998) and in 1999 took second prize in the ‘Pianello Val Tidone’ competition, Italy. The same year he won first prize and received a special prize in ‘Premio Internazionale per fisarmonica Stefano Bizzari’, where the following year he became the absolute winner and was awarded the ‘Golden Lyre’.  Five musicians from the St Petersburg Conservatory, Russia, visit Manchester, England, from October 15th to 23rd for a cultural visit. The musicians are Vladimir Fonin, ‘Honored People’s Artist of Russia’ – accordion, Mikhail Senchurov, Professor of Balalaika, Natalya Gorbenko – piano, and singers Anna Voronina and Sergei Kochetov.  William Cosby performs in concert at the Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society (WMAS) on Sunday October 17th, at 4pm. The concert will take place at Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church, 3435 Sleepy Hollow Road, Falls Church, VA 22044. The adjudicator is Donald Finalyson, and the contests are open to the general public.
