“Weird Al” Yankovic New App - USA

Weird Al ‘When I Grow Up’ app
"Weird Al" Yankovic the three-time Grammy Award-winner and accordion aficionado has been making us laugh since the 1980s — but the singer-songwriter-accordionist-actor can now add ‘author’ to his resume with ‘When I Grow Up’, a children's book that was released in February.

‘When I Grow Up’ — the app, just released — takes the book and adds some extra fun and interactivity. Yankovic said "It's one of the more dynamic and interactive books apps available, because not only could you read the book or have it read to you — and by me — but there is so much to do, play and explore — such as massaging a gorilla, racing snails, rolling crayons or touching Mrs. Krupp so bugs will fly out of her hair," Yankovic adds with a laugh.

Yankovic is probably the world’s most internet savvy accordionist with more than 2 million followers on Twitter. "Many of my songs are tech- and Internet-related," he adds.

His latest album, Alpocalypse, made its debut in the Billboard Top 10, and the lead video from that album, Perform This Way — a parody of Lady Gaga's Born This Way —  was viewed on the Internet more than 6 million times in its first week.

Maurice Jones Performs with ‘Operatunity’ Daytime Concerts – New Zealand

Maurice JonesDuring June and July, Maurice Jones (picture right) has been performing 18 concerts covering most of the North Island of New Zealand. The “Vive la France!” concert series organized by ‘Operatunity’ has featured the accordion strongly with Maurice Jones being regarded as a star of the show.

The series provides quality, fun, concerts in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with the chance to meet with singers at lunch afterwards. This pre-lunch series of themed concerts is popular with folks who prefer to go out during the day rather than at night.

This concept of daytime lunchtime concerts might be a very good idea for accordion soloists and groups to consider.

Paris Moscou Duo Training Course, Seurrois – France

Paris Moscou DuoThe Paris Moscou Duo (Domi Emorine and Roman Jbanov) recently completed a week of master classes in Chamblanc, France. This was the second time that Professor Jean-Marc Beche, of the accordion association Seurrois, had organized this week, which involved his pupils, members of the local accordion club, and others from around France.

They shared the week in order to perfect musical performances with their accordions in a friendly and especially studious atmosphere. Everybody appreciated the benefits of this training course from watching the video  of the first and last day. To close this training course, a concert was organized in the church of Seurre.

The accordion club ‘Les Accordéonistes Seurrois’, supervised by Jean Marc Beche, opened this concert with an eclectic and good quality program. Then the trainees interpreted their pieces worked during the week, followed by Paris Moscou Duo, who performed pieces of their new album presenting the compositions of Franck Angelis.

The audience included many members of the public, most of whom were watching and listening to the accordion from a new angle, and seeing the instrument interpret music in different ways.

Another master class will be arranged in the future, and for information email either: michel.leveque0691@orange.fr or daniel.coulon00@orange.fr

The next training course, from July 31st to August 5th, is already fully subscribed, with applicants coming from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, and Kazakhstan. To follow the news re training courses of Domi Emorine and Roman Jbanov, see the website: Paris Moscou
