Michael Bridge Performance of Eight New Works - Canadaby Rita Davidson Barnea |
Canadian accordionist Michael Bridge partnered last summer with the Canadian Music Centre and the Iranian-Canadian Composers of Toronto (I.C.O.T.) to send out a world-wide call for new pieces for accordion solo written in the last five years. They were overwhelmed and delighted to receive 53 submissions from composers in 21 countries, and a jury selected the seven best works from the submissions. These will be performed in concert by Michael Bridge on January 24, 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Canadian Music Centre in Toronto - all receiving their Canadian premiere. Michael Bridge is a Doctoral candidate in Accordion Performance at the University of Toronto (tutor Joseph Macerollo) and is committed to developing new repertoire for accordion, now with over 50 world premiers to his credit. The winning selections represent diverse strands of contemporary accordion music, including pieces with electronics, virtuosic showpieces, and one piece that uses the accordionist’s voice.
