Jimmie McGregor on 'Jimmy Shand Story', Scotland – UK

CD poster
Sir Jimmy ShandFolk singer/guitarist Jimmie McGregor wrote on social media about his role as narrator:

The 'Jimmy Shand Story' in the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh, on Saturday September 8th was a bit of a worry for me. In the normal course of events, when I walk on stage, I'm my own boss for a couple of hours, but this was different. It was a very complicated show, with no less than 95 cues to pick up. I was the narrator, and to miss one of those cues was to throw the proceedings out of kilter - result, chaos.

I felt I was really out of my comfort zone and sweated blood for about a week. However, having spent a great deal of concentrated time on the material, I found on the night that I sailed through it and was enjoying a wonderful response from the packed audience. I realised within minutes that almost everyone mentioned in the show was known to me me, either as a real friend or an old work colleague, so the script was seasoned with a lot of related jokes and anecdotes and I was really enjoying myself.

An added bonus was that the band members were good guys and the star of the show, a 21 year old called Brandon McPhee, was a natural on stage and a stunningly talented accordionist. Sorry to go on about all this, but what began as a fairly daunting prospect, became a thoroughly stimulating and enjoyable experience. Try to see the show. Dave Anderson will be the narrator.
