  From 11 to 17 September 2016, for the first time in the history of Russia, in Rostov-on-Don, will be held the world's oldest international accordion competition - the Coupe Mondiale. Accordion orchestras and groups from all over Europe converged on the Tyrolean town, Innsbruck between 5th to 8th May, for the 12th World Music Festival organised by the Deutscher Harmonika-Verband e.V. On the evening of May 9th at 19:30, a concert titled “Accordion – The Soulmate”, grandly opened at the prestigious Buick Theater in the Shanghai Grand Theatre complex. 6 page color concert program: 2016ShanghaiProgram.pdf Concert poster: 2016SSIMF.jpg Picture 5: Improvisation "Destiny" by Chen Kai. This concert is not only an important part of the 33rd China Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, but also importantly, represents a special present, dedicated by the Chinese Accordion Association to World Accordion Day on May 6th. In recent years, with the advocacy and efforts of Prof. Li Cong, Vice President of CIA and President of the Accordion Committee of the China Musicians’ Association, China accordion arts have pursued diverse development with Chinese characteristics. Jointly performed by teachers, students and alumni of accordion majors of the Music College of Shanghai Normal University, this concert was themed “Performed with Hands, Expressed by Hearts”. The concert presented China accordion arts and its diverse development principles and practices with solo, ensemble and chamber music performances of diverse genres, including Chinese folk music, tango and jazz. We hope this present to World Accordion Day will act as a bridge of communication “Performed with Hands, Expressed by Hearts” between accordion artists both in China and across the world, and at the same time, bring beautiful accordion music to more music lovers.  The Kramfors Music Awards is the Oscars of the "High Coast" region of Sweden and every second year, they present special prizes and awards for musicians, artists, composers, groups, who have put this region of Sweden on the national and international music map.Jörgen Sundeqvist received the Classical Artist of the Year Award recognizing the excellence of his performance and its contribution to the great success of Fredrik Högberg´s "The Accordion King", a multi media Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra. Jörgen Sundeqvist performed the World Premiere of the "The Accordion King", 22nd and 23rd January 2015, the review of the concert saying: "It was an unforgettable musical evening for the audience at Kramfors People's Park. Fredrik Högberg and Jorgen Sundeqvist, backed by the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, brings together in a masterly way the past with the present, and points forward to the future."  Accordion virtuoso, veteran instructor, and West Coast pioneer of the electronic accordion, Lou Jacklich, has been selected to be the Honorary Director of the 2016 Cotati Accordion Festival (CAF). Mr. Jacklich’s outstanding full-time career as an accordionist spans over 70 years…and still counting! The considerable history of Lou including an eTracks mp3 album is online at: Lou Jacklich The 26th annual Cotati Accordion Festival will be August 20-21, 2016 at La Plaza Park in Cotati, California. This year’s Festival has a “Western" theme featuring: the Doo-Wah Riders, Debra Peters and the Love Saints and the Vivants. Accordion celebrities Jelena Milojevic, Cory Pesaturo, Michael Bridge, Sourdough Slim, Steve Balich Polka Band, Those Darn Accordions, and a host of others will be performing. A wide variety of regional and musical genera (e.g., Country, French musette, Gypsy jazz, Western, Blues, Cajun, Zydeco, and Latin) are in store. Roberta Cantow will show her new documentary, “Accordion’s Rising.” Sheri Mignano Crawford is organizing the Student Stage again this year. Other surprises are also planned including another wonderful grand finale! |

 The musical academy "Marino da Caramanico" organizes the 15th International Music Competition "Paolo Barrasso" which is open to all musical instruments (including accordion), and to musicians of any age and nationality.The competitions are being held from 12th to 15th May 2016 and the competitions have prizes totaling €13.000.
