| It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of renowned teacher Jean Brown from Wishaw, Scotland. Jean Brown was awarded the NAO Award of Merit in 1991. She passed away peacefully on Sunday 15th February after a short illness at the age of 79. Our thoughts at this sad time are with her son Ronnie and the family. The funeral will be held on Friday, details to be published shortly. |

Международная Конфедерация Аккордеонистов (CIA) – член Международного Музыкального Совета и крупнейшее неправительственное подразделение ЮНЕСКО – недавно провела свою 121 Генеральную Ассамблею Делегатов в Братиславе, Словакия. Мероприятие было организовано вице-президентом CIA Тибором Рацем (Tibor Racz) и главой Методического Центра Аккордеона ((MCA)) – члена CIA от Словакии – Мартой Цокеовой (Marta Szokeova) и продолжалось 3 дня. В рамках Генеральной Ассамблеи прошли заседания, неформальные рабочие сессии, музыкальные выступления и социальные мероприятия. Приглашенными артистами стали трое выдающихся музыкантов – участников 61 Международного Конкурса «Кубок Мира», прошедшего в Глазго, Шотландия, и организованном Национальной Аккордеонной организацией Соединенного Королевства (NАО) - Петар Марич (Petar Maric) – Сербия, Грэйсон Мейсфилд (Grayson Masefield) – Новая Зеландия и Жюльен Гонзалес (Julien ‘Speedy’ Gonzales) – Франция. В ходе заседаний Конгресс утвердил несколько наград, включающих две награды «За заслуги» (the CIA Merit Award) и четыре награды «Почетные друзья аккордеона» (the CIA Honored Friend of the Accordion Award).Награды распределились следующим образом: CIA Merit Award: Альфред Реннер (Alfred Renner) – Дания Милана Маленсия-Баракова (Milana Malencia-Barackova) - Сербия CIA Honored Friend of the Accordion: Хольда Паолетти-Кампл (Holda Paoletti-Kampl) - Италия Гэри Даверне (Gary Daverne) – Новая Зеландия Фридрих Нэги (Fridrich Nagy) – Словакия Альфред Мирек - Россия Было запланировано много интересных мероприятий на будущее (World Accordion Day). В том числе проведение Кубка Мира вплоть до 2019 года, организация празднования Всемирного Дня Аккордеона 6 мая каждого года (в честь годовщины первого оригинального патента на аккордеон), релиз видео записей всего 61 «Кубка Мира» и всех последующих фестивалей, запуск первой в истории CIA категории цифровых аккордеонов, развитие недавно созданного CIA Международного Музея Сотрудничества (International Museum Cooperation)и оцифровывание архивных коллекций CIA. Фестиваль «Mundial de Acordeon», Вальедупар (Valledupar) – Колумбияby Rob Howard |
| Ежегодный фестиваль 'Mundial De Acordeon" («Мир аккордеона») в Вальедупаре, Колумбия, состоится 25 и 26 июня. Центральной частью фестиваля станет аккордеонный конкурс для солистов и ансамблей. Последний день подачи заявок 25 апреля. Город Вальедупар (Valledupar) является культурной столицей музыки Vallenato, которая имеет 450-летнюю историю. До того, как в 19 веке появился аккордеон, эта музыка исполнялась на флейте, но в настоящее время этот стиль в основном исполняется на диатонической гармонике, часто с ритмическим аккомпанементом. Сотни групп и солистов, как ожидается, приедут развлекаться на этот фестиваль, который является одним из наиболее важных фестивалей Колумбии.  Фестиваль Центрального Северного региона, проводящийся Национальной Аккордеонной Организацией Великобритании (NAO) и являющийся отборочным на Чемпионат «NAO UK Championships» в Блэкпуле (24-26 апреля), прошёл в местечке Saltaire, западный Йоркшир 7 февраля. Мероприятие, проходившее в помещении с 4 залами и торговой площадью, прошло с большим успехом – более 250 заявок в аккордеонную категорию.Наивысшего балла (98/100), поставленного членом жюри Джордже Гажичем (Djordje Gajic), был удостоен Александр Бодель (Alexander Bodell). Также превосходно выступили аккордеонный оркестр the Craven Accordion Orchestra и Том Хардэйкер (Thom Hardaker), который в настоящее время является студентом Олега Шарова (Oleg Sharov) в Санкт-Петербурге, Россия. Отрадно было увидеть инициативность ряда местных школ Йоркшира, которые привезли множество юных аккордеонистов, впервые выступавших в отборочных категориях аккордеонного фестиваля. Также были очень популярны ceilidh, проходившие по вечерам с участием Роберта Торна (Robert Thorn) и его группы. Следующий региональный фестиваль NАО должен пройти 21 февраля в Renfrewshire, Шотландия, и в South East Thames на следующий день.  Александр Поелуев (Alexander Poeluev) 28 февраля выступит на фестивале «Fresh Wind» ("Свежий Ветер"), который пройдёт в Остерпоорт, Гронинген. Это мероприятие проводится в трех местах с концертами в the Foyer Midden Gebied.В 15.00 Александр Поелуев проведет семинар, а в 21.00 примет участие в концерте. Победа на «Кубке Мира 2002» в категориях Coupe Mondiale и Coupe Mondiale Piano Accordion и первое место на Международном Конкурсе в Шанхае (Китай) в 2006 году – вот лишь часть его успешных выступлений на международных конкурсах. Исполнение Александра Поелуева (Alexander Poeluev) отличают огромное мастерство владения инструментом, блестящая техника и виртуозность и чувственность интерпретаций.  The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards) - or Grammys - are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the USA for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The categories won by accordion playing acts for 2009 include: - Jimmy Sturr gained his 18th Grammy for Best Polka Album, and Sturr’s fourth consecutive win. - Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet won a Grammy for Best Zydeco/Cajun Album. - Los Tigres del Norte won once again for Best Norteño Album. - They Might Be Giants won their second Grammy, this time for ‘Here Come the 123s’, the Best Musical Album for Children. |

 The Balkan group Paprika Balkanicus is about to head to Australia and New Zealand for a 28-day performance tour, some dates with the Australian group Cat Empire. The members of Paprika Balkanicus are Milos Milivojevic (Serbia) – accordion, Zivorad Nikolic (Serbia) – accordion, Bogdan Vacarescu (Romania) – violin, Vlad Jocic (Serbia) – guitar, and Jozef Secnik (Slovenia) – bass. Paprika Balkanicus’ repertoire will include a foot-stomping, sing-along blend of traditional and Gypsy songs from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, as well as few classical and jazz tunes.  Djordje Gajic began his musical studies in Yugoslavia at the age of 6, finally graduating from the Russian Academy of Music in 1995. Djordje has won many International Competitions, amongst them the Trophée Mondiale in 1988 and the Grand Prix in 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts. He has performed with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yvgeny Svetlanov, as well as many solo recitals throughout Europe. Djordje Gajic performs an accordion recital St Mary's Church, Putney, London SW15, on Friday February 27th at 1.10pm. The organiser is Kathron Sturrock. | The third annual ‘Big Squeeze’ accordion contest, organised by Texas Folklife and Hohner, takes place on June 6th at the 20th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston. Contestants must be age 25 or younger and the entry deadline is March 1st; Prizes include cash, a trip for two to play in Germany (courtesy of Hohner), and a day of recording at Sugar Hill Studios in Houston. Guests at this event include Sunny Sauceda, Santiago Jimenez Jr., Cedryl Ballou, Mark Halata, and Lady ‘D’. The contest was started in 2007 as a way to promote the growth and development of young accordionists in the region. Any genre of music that incorporates the use of the accordion will be accepted, such as Cajun, German, Czech, Polish, Tejano, Country & Western, and Zydeco. | The group Gipsy.cz has been voted by TV viewers to represent the Czech Republic at the 54th Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Moscow, Russia, on May 16th. The band, featuring accordionist Petr Surmaj, is known for its rap music in the Romani language, and is very popular in the Czech Republic, and is now also gaining popularity throughout Europe. The leader of the band Radosla ‘Gipsy’ Banga, born in Prague, has developed a unique style of Romano hip-hop, combining Roma rhythms and language with the music played by Balkan brass bands. |
