| It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of renowned teacher Jean Brown from Wishaw, Scotland. Jean Brown was awarded the NAO Award of Merit in 1991. She passed away peacefully on Sunday 15th February after a short illness at the age of 79. Our thoughts at this sad time are with her son Ronnie and the family. The funeral will be held on Friday, details to be published shortly. |

General Delegiertenversammlung in Bratislava, Slovakei abgehalten. Der 3tägige Event war gefüllt mit Meetings, musikalischen Darbietungen sowie soziale Angelegenheiten Die auftretenden Gastkünstler waren die 3 hervorragenden CIA Coupe Mondiale Wettbewerbsteilnehmer des 61. Coupe Mondiale in Glasgow, Schottland, der von der National Accordion Organization/GB(NAO) organisiert wurde: Petar Maric (Serbien), Grayson Masefield (Neuseeland) und Julien Gonzales (Frankreich). Während des Kongresses wurden folgende Auszeichnungen vergeben: CIA Merit Award: Alfred Renner (Dänemark) Milana Malencia-Barackova (Serbien) CIA Honored Friend of the Accordion: Holda Paoletti-Kampl (Italien) Gary Daverne (Neuseeland) Fridrich Nagy (Slovakei) Alfred Mirek (Russland) Viele wirklich außergewöhnliche Events sind für die näher Zukunft geplant – darunter die Durchführung des Coupe Mondiales bis zum Jahre 2019, der erste Welt-Akkordeon Tag (World Accordion Day) am 6. Mai jeden Jahres (Tag an dem das Akkordeonpatent angemeldet wurde), Neuvorstellung des Multi-Video-Sets des gesamten 61. ‘Mundial de Acordeon’, Valledupar - Colombienby Rob Howard |
| Der jährliche ‘Mundial De Acordeon’ wird heuer am 25./26. Juni in Valledupar, Colombien stattfinden. Der Akkordeonwettbewerb für Solisten und Ensembles ist Kern dieser Veranstaltung. Alle Anmeldung für eine Teilnahme müssen bis zum 25. April bei dem Veranstalter vorliegen. Die Stadt Valledupar ist kulturelles Zentrum der Vallenato Musik und stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Bevor das Akkordeon im 19. Jahrhundert in der Musikszene Fuss faßte, wurde diese Musik mit der Flöte interprätiert. Heutzutage spielt man diese hauptsächlich auf diatonischen Knopfakkordeonen mit rythmischer Begleitung. Hunderte von Gruppen und einzelne Musiker warden zu diesem Großereignis erwartet, welches zu den wichtigsten Musikevents von Columbien zählt.  Die Nationale Akkordeon Organisation von Großbritannien (NAO) unterhielt am 7. Februar in Saltaire, West Yorkshire das North Central Area Festival, die Qualifikation für die NAO UK Championships in Blackpool (24. bis 26. April). Der Veranstaltungsort, mit 4 Hallen, einer Händlerausstellung und dem Wettbewerb mit über 250 Einträgen in der Akkordeonklasse, erwies sich als großer Erfolg.Die höchste Solo-Note des Tages (98/100) wurde vom Jury-Mitglied Djordje Gajic an Alexander Bodell vergeben. Hervorragende Leistungen außerdem des Craven Akkordeon-Orchestere und Thom Hardaker, derzeit Schüler von Oleg Sharov in Sankt Petersburg, Russland. Es war schön zu sehen, daß eine Reihe von neuen Initiativen in lokalen Schulen in Yorkshire dazu geführt haben, daß viele junge Akkordeonisten am Wettbewerb in Anfänger-Kategorien, zum ersten Mal teilnahmen. Sehr beliebt war auch der Ceilidh Abend mit Robert Thorn und seiner Band. Das nächsten regionale NAO Festival wird in Renfrewshire, Schottland am 21. und 21. Februar sowie am darauffoldenden Tag in Süd-Ost-Thames durchgeführt. Ergebnisse der bisher stattgefundenen regionalen Festivals können Sie auf der Webseite von NAO nachlesen. |

 Alexander Poeluev wird am 28. Februar während des "‘Fresh Wind’ " Festivals in Oosterpoort, Groningen, auftreten. Die Veranstaltung findet in den drei verschiedenen Spielstätten mit den Konzerten im Foyer Midden Gebied statt. Im Programm ein Workshop mit Alexander um 15 Uhr und später am Abend ein Konzert um 21Uhr. Der Künstler ist Gewinner des 2002 Sen.Coupe Mondiale’s, 2002 Coupe Mondiale’s Kategorie Piano-Akkordeon. Ersten Platz belegte er im 2006 internationalen Wettbewerb in Shanghai (China) um nur einige der Wettbewerbserfolge zu nennen. Besonders sind die große Padronanz des Instruments, seine brillante Technik und Virtuosität und sensible Interpretation hervorzugeben. Weiters werden folgende Künstler während des Festivals auftreten: Nederlands Jeugd Akkordeon-Ensemble, Larissa Groeneveld und Janne Rättyä, Brouwer's Akkordeon-Ensemble, Gertie Bruin und Theo Bodewits, Nihad Hrustanbegovic, Nederlands Akkordeon-Ensemble, Otine van Erp, Marc Pantus und Oleg Fateev, Sébastien Bertran und Alain Pennec.  Sonntag 15.02.09 Akkordeon Centrum Brusch & Musikschule Schneider präsentieren: Yuri Shishkin in Concert. Das war schon unglaublich, was der z. Zt. weltbeste Bajan-Solist aus seinem Jupiter Knopfakkordeon herauskitzelte. Yuri Shishkin, der im Rahmen seiner CD-Produktion in Hamburg verweilte, verzauberte sowohl in Hamburg, als auch in Berlin sein Publikum mit Auskoppelungen aus seiner neuen CD und früheren Werken. Beim Ladenkonzert in Hamburg spielte Yuri Shishkin fast wie im Rausch nahezu anderthalb Stunden, so das die Pause leider entfiel, was dem gebannt lauschendem Publikum gar nicht auffiel.  The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards) - or Grammys - are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the USA for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The categories won by accordion playing acts for 2009 include: - Jimmy Sturr gained his 18th Grammy for Best Polka Album, and Sturr’s fourth consecutive win. - Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet won a Grammy for Best Zydeco/Cajun Album. - Los Tigres del Norte won once again for Best Norteño Album. - They Might Be Giants won their second Grammy, this time for ‘Here Come the 123s’, the Best Musical Album for Children. |

 The Balkan group Paprika Balkanicus is about to head to Australia and New Zealand for a 28-day performance tour, some dates with the Australian group Cat Empire. The members of Paprika Balkanicus are Milos Milivojevic (Serbia) – accordion, Zivorad Nikolic (Serbia) – accordion, Bogdan Vacarescu (Romania) – violin, Vlad Jocic (Serbia) – guitar, and Jozef Secnik (Slovenia) – bass. Paprika Balkanicus’ repertoire will include a foot-stomping, sing-along blend of traditional and Gypsy songs from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, as well as few classical and jazz tunes.  Djordje Gajic began his musical studies in Yugoslavia at the age of 6, finally graduating from the Russian Academy of Music in 1995. Djordje has won many International Competitions, amongst them the Trophée Mondiale in 1988 and the Grand Prix in 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts. He has performed with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yvgeny Svetlanov, as well as many solo recitals throughout Europe. Djordje Gajic performs an accordion recital St Mary's Church, Putney, London SW15, on Friday February 27th at 1.10pm. The organiser is Kathron Sturrock. | The third annual ‘Big Squeeze’ accordion contest, organised by Texas Folklife and Hohner, takes place on June 6th at the 20th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston. Contestants must be age 25 or younger and the entry deadline is March 1st; Prizes include cash, a trip for two to play in Germany (courtesy of Hohner), and a day of recording at Sugar Hill Studios in Houston. Guests at this event include Sunny Sauceda, Santiago Jimenez Jr., Cedryl Ballou, Mark Halata, and Lady ‘D’. The contest was started in 2007 as a way to promote the growth and development of young accordionists in the region. Any genre of music that incorporates the use of the accordion will be accepted, such as Cajun, German, Czech, Polish, Tejano, Country & Western, and Zydeco. | The group Gipsy.cz has been voted by TV viewers to represent the Czech Republic at the 54th Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Moscow, Russia, on May 16th. The band, featuring accordionist Petr Surmaj, is known for its rap music in the Romani language, and is very popular in the Czech Republic, and is now also gaining popularity throughout Europe. The leader of the band Radosla ‘Gipsy’ Banga, born in Prague, has developed a unique style of Romano hip-hop, combining Roma rhythms and language with the music played by Balkan brass bands. |
