Friedrich Lips CD ‘Viva Voce’ Now Available!, Moscow – Russia

Viva Voce CDFriedrich Lips is one of the most famous Russian Bayan players internationally, known not only in the accordion world but also in classical circles. His latest recording is the CD ‘Viva Voce’, now available, includes works by Madsen, Yannay, Ledenyov, and Podgaits.

The Norwegian composer Trigve Madsen wrote ? ‘Partita for 2 Accordions’ for Friedrich Lips and Jon Faukstad. With it he wanted - given the fact that the interpreters ??m? from Russia ?nd Norway - to depict in humorous elements how close the Russian composers Shostakovitch and Grieg and the Norwegian, ??? both in style and themes.

Yehuda Yannay wrote m??? than 120 pieces for various instruments, electronic music and music for films. The piece ‘????nn???b’ is based on the family n?m? of Y?nn?y ?nd the name of ‘????n’ and the 4 chords of these names ??? gradually taken ???rt ?nd then eclipse each other.

Roman Ledenyov’s ‘Round Dance’ is the of ? ???l? whose title is ‘Russian Landscape in the Back’. ‘Round Dance’ is ? circular, l??ical d?n?? combined with childlike games.

Roman Ledenyov and Efrem Podgaits, both excellent Russian composers, present their versions of the image of Virgin ????: ‘Ave Maria’.

In ‘Concerto N° 2’ ?frem ?odgaits uses the str??t-s?ng ‘Murka’ from ‘?d?ss?’ ?nd, moreover, the listener should ?ls? detect the motive of the song ‘Oh, Odessa!’ ‘Viva voce’ (lively voice) is t? present – according to the composer's ideas – the sound as well ?s the breath of the street.

The work 'Viva Voce' which this CD is named after, is also the mandatory piece for the 3rd round of the 5th International Competition of Bayan and Accordion Players (2010 V International) in Moscow from December 12th to 19th 2010.

You can purchase online and hear sound samples of 'Viva Voce', catalog: CD022 website.

Alexander Cholminov – 85th Birthday on September 8th, Moscow - Russia

Alexander CholminovAlthough Alexander Nikolayevich Cholminov (born 1925) was widely regarded as one of the most brilliant and admired composers in the world of the bayan, he had virtually only written one work for the instrument — the famous ‘Suite for Bayan’. This suite, produced in 1951, is firmly established in accordionists repertoire and has been played by generations of students and soloists in their programmes.

Nearly half a century after his splendid debut, Alexander Cholminov, now one of the most eminent Russian composers of operatic, symphonic and chamber music of the second half of the 20th Century, came back to the bayan in 1998 to create his ‘Concerto Symphony for Bayan’. In his ‘Autumn’ melody (2005) Cholminov used a beautiful melody of his music for the movie ‘Predsedatyel’ (‘The Chairman’).

The fantasy, deep and emotional, is perfectly constructed and shows - which is essential - a rather high-pitched and rich intonation. Finally, the first performance of his ‘Concerto for Bayan & Symphony Orchestra’ will take place during the opening concert of this year’s ‘IV International Competition for Bayanists and Accordionists’ in Moscow on December 12th 2010 with soloist: Friedrich Lips.

Henry Doktorski Performs at German Heritage Festival, Pennsylvania – USA

Henry DoktorskiHenry Doktorski performed at the 14th Annual German Heritage Festival in Erie, Pennsylvania, during Labor Day weekend September 4th and 5th, his second consecutive year performing at this event.

He was the featured performer in the ‘Viennese Pavilion’ -decorated with a magnificent backdrop of the Habsburg Schönbrunn Palace, and his repertoire included the great European waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss Jr. and Émile Waldteufel, among other composers.

Henry commented, "I really enjoyed performing in the relaxed atmosphere of the Viennese Pavilion. The audience members sat at café tables where they nibbled on German chocolate cake, sipped German coffees and beers and Rhine wines, and listened to some of the world's greatest waltzes and polkas: Strauss' ‘Blue Danube’, ‘Frühlingsstimmen’, ‘Emperor Waltz’, ‘Pizzicato Polka’, and Waldteufel's ‘Les Patineurs’ and ‘Dolores’ waltzes, to name a few.

The audience was attentive and appreciate and I especially enjoyed sitting at the tables and chatting with many music lovers during my breaks".

Festival Co-Chairman Raymond Luniewski wrote, "Once again, the Viennese Café area of the Erie German Heritage Festival featured Henry Doktorski on the accordion. We were so very pleased to have Mr. Doktorski with us once again and glad to see the large amount of people who came into the café and sat and enjoyed his waltzes, marches and more! And just for good measure a few Deiro pieces too! Henry's all around performance was outstanding as usual and numerous musicians also stopped throughout the weekend to admire his virtuosity and mastering of the accordion. We hope to keep him an integral part of the festival for years to come!"

L'association Atout Vent Course and Concert, Brittany – France

Atout Vent
For the 4th consecutive year, the association Atout Vent organized an accordion training course at the Domaine de Kermenguy in Lézardrieux, Brittany, from August 22nd to 29th. The team of teachers included Angélique Goardou, Delphine Doublot, Camille Privat, Alexander Monnier, Nicolas Lebret, and Damien Petiteau. There were 27 students present, who came from all parts of France.

Some of the students were preparing for competitions, and others were seeking self improvement as musicians. The trainees took part in different workshops that included tango, musical formation, and accordion styles, and all participated in an accordion orchestra. The course proved very beneficial for all involved.

During the week of training a concert took place in the Cathedral of Tréguier. This concert began with a tango performed by the students and their workshop teacher, Delphine Doublot. Young classical virtuoso Sébastien Taillard, preparing for his Diploma of Musical Etude in accordion and in percussion, gave a solo performance.

Maryll Abbas, a student of Camille Privat, dazzled the audience with an entertaining jazz set. She is currently preparing for the International Grand Prix of Castelfidrado in Italy.

To close the concert, Camille Privat, winner of the CMA Trophée Mondial de l’Accordéon, interpreted some pieces of the Baroque era and Viatcheslav Semionov. Camille has recently recorded a double CD of variety and classical music. Alexander Monnier, MD of the orchestra, came to rejoin the musicians for a final number that made the audience of about 450 people sing.
