Fleadh Cheoil, Drogheda - Irische Republikby Rob Howard |
Der 68. All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil findet vom 12. bis 19. August zum ersten Mal in Drogheda im County Louth an der Ostküste der Republik Irlands statt. Accordion Festival Review, Salto - Uruguayby Ignacio Porra |
Between the 20th and 21st of July, the seventh edition of the International Meeting of Accordions was held in the City of Salto, Uruguay. It was attended by around 200 accordionists from Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Chile and Argentina. One of the representatives for the province of Corrientes was Ignacio Porra, who wrote this report to comment on the experience lived during those days. The meeting, in honor of Minister Silvio B. Previale, took place during the two days at the Larrañaga Theater. He was a member of Matías Barbas and his group Curuzú Orilla, Los Amigos Fernández, Alfredo Grahsmugg, Vicente Franco and his criollos, among other groups. Also, he was a session member of Soriano Sosa, Ariel Cabrera El Pibe de Oro, Los Vecinos, Los Nuevos Vecinos, Los Aliados and Los Partners del Chamamé. He recorded with the aforementioned groups. In addition, he served as a guest of Los Nuevos Camperos, Yamila Ibarra La Princesa del Acordeón, Los Criollos de Corrientes, Ernesto Juanovich, Héctor Porra and his Amistad group, Cachito González and their kings. Also, he performed at a large number of festivals in different parts of Argentina and neighboring countries. The International Accordion Meeting "Minister Silvio B. Previale" is held every two years, at the Larrañaga Theater in the City of Salto, Uruguay. Since 2006 he has called accordionists and musicians from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Spain, Italy and Uruguay, who interpret academic and popular repertoire to perform. The event is organized by the Previale family and since 1960, marked a milestone in the musical history of the eastern country. The Encuentro offers the community two nights of concerts and a colorful parade of accordions on the main street of the city as well as workshops, forums, film screenings, among other activities. |

On Sunday August 12th, 11.15am, accordionists Cyril and Virginie Danrey perform at an all-day summer fair event in La Clusaz, a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. The day also includes Mass at 10am, lunch, a parade of herds and floats, accompanied by the group ‘Les Sonneurs de Cloches’ (departure from the village), folk dances with the group of La Clusaz ‘Lou Socali’, donkey races, tombola, dinner, countryside skills, and at 8pm an evening concert. |

Accordionist Miloš Milivojevic and cellist Adrian Bradbury perform on Tuesday August 14th, 9.45pm St Mary’s Church, Burton Bradstock, Dorset. This concert is an event in the annual Burton Bradstock Festival of Music & Art. The evening includes a soup and roll supper. Tickets cost £8 Programme: Adrian Bradbury plays ‘Bach Cello Suite no. 5 in C minor’ followed by Milos Milivojevic performing the ‘Five Views of the Gulag State’ by Victor Vlasov. The Burton Bradstock Festival of Music & Art runs from August 11th to 19th, and includes concert and week-long art exhibition. On Thursday August 16th, 7pm, accordionist Paul Capaldi and his bando performs in concert and at the Tyndale Accordion & Fiddle Club, Tynedale Farmers Function Suite, Hexham Auction Mart, Hexham, Northumberland, NE46 3SG. Paul Capaldi is a member of an accordion dynasty. The Capaldi Brothers, Nick and Carmino, were amongst the very earliest show business pioneers of the piano accordion in Great Britain, and in the 1930s were a popular touring duo who appeared extensively in variety theatres. Renaldo Capaldi, the son of Carmino, was a fine solo concert accordionist, teacher, adjudicator, composer, and publisher/editor of the ‘Accordion Times’, 1986-90. Renaldo’s son, Paul Capaldi, has continued the family tradition to the present time as a highly accomplished player and teacher of the accordion, based in Scotland. |

Performers featuring accordions and other freed instruments include the Chicago Reel, Leahys Luck, Beglan Irish Dancers, Cashel Dennehy Irish Dancers, Glencastle Irish Dancers, Caledonian Scottish Dancers, Capitol Ceili Band, Cream City Ceili Band, and many more. |

Accordionist Roman Jbanov and the balalaika player Alexei Birioukov perform a programme of Russian music in concert on Saturday August 18th, 9pm, at Le Petite Theatre de Vichel, 1 impasse des Roitelets, 63340 Vichel, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne, central France. Roman Jbanov was born in the Ukraine in 1976. He began playing the accordion at the age of six years of age, and in 1988 he entered the Secondary Special Music School (S.S.M.S) Lyceum attached to the M. I. Glinka Novosibrisk State Conservatory, and in 1994 entered the M.I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory. He went on to win many prizes in competitions including the CMA Trophee Mondial in 1997, and tour internationally.
