 Queen Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) who reigned as Queen from 1952 was Queen of the UK and the Commonwealth, which includes a combined population 2.5 billion and 1 in 3 young people worldwide, aged between 15 and 29 years. Queen Elizabeth II who was apolitical, was pictured on more coins and bank notes around the world, than any other person in history.   Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Secretary General Kimmo Mattila writes: "The CIA congratulates the 2022 Coupe Mondiale host, the CIA member accordeon.ch upon attracting 83 entries from 23 countries for the 75th Coupe Mondiale in Zofingen, 4-9 October 2022."Even as we witness devastating war in Ukraine and Covid still causing problems, this second "live Coupe Mondiale" with live jury and contestants is clearly very popular with teachers and competitors. Additionally, the CIA has received 60 delegate registrations from 29 national members for the CIA International Congress with many Delegates also participating as jury for the Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships. CIA President Mirco Patarini writes: “We are very happy to have such a large number of competitors, delegates and jury members present for the 75th Coupe Mondiale. We will have a great event with real music in a live situation.  Registrations for the 8th International Accordion Days in Prague, Czech Republic will close on September 23rd, 2022.The event will be held in the Museum of Applied Arts Hall, Prague, from October 27th to 30th, 2022 and include an opening concert with international guests, competitions, a Gala Concert, orchestras and a prize winners final concert.  The 2022 Dean Martin Prize was awarded to accordionist Danilo Di Paolonicola (pictured below at the award ceremony) in Vasto, Italy this week.Danilo is the creator of the Orchestra Popolare del Saltarello project which was born from an operation of research and revaluation of the musical tradition of Abruzzo. The Dean Martin prize was given in recognition of his work with the orchestra. |

| Video: Music clips from Zamar “Zamar” celebrated Spring with a concert entitled “Dis Zamar Lekker” at the Drostdy Theatre in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa on Sptember 9th, 2022. The group features Monika Stuchlik Kahl (accordion & vocals), Veronica Bell (violin & vocals), Philip Vermeulen (guitar), Warren Joubert (bass) and Ronald Siegelaar (drums). Their name “Zamar” means “to celebrate with the plucking of strings”. Their program included popular light classical music, Hungarian rhapsodies, Ukrainian folk melodies, South American tangos, Irish folk music, traditional African songs and contemporary classics. |

| An accordion exhibition entitled “Making the Accordion Great Again” by Liberty Bellows is currently on display at Philadelphia International Airport, between Terminal A East and B. The exhibition, which includes 40 accordions, will run until the end of December 2022. The Airport’s Exhibitions Program is a nationally-recognized, award-winning visual arts initiative which began in 1998. The exhibits change throughout the year to provide a variety of educational and cultural programs. This forum for presenting visual arts attests to the Airport's commitment to supporting arts and culture. The Exhibitions Program provides millions of visitors from around the world access to a wide variety of art forms by artists and arts institutions from the Philadelphia area. |

In memoriam Cynthia Shoemaker (1939 - 2021). This piece was commissioned by the American Accordionists' Association (2021), and premiered at the AAA Seminars of Dr. William Schimmel, Curator - on July 30, 2021. Accordionist/composer Will Holshouser and Eric Vloeimans (trumpet) are touring USA and Canada this month to celebrate the release of their new CD, “Two for the Road” via Bandcamp. “Two for the Road was recorded during a live concert tour of the Netherlands in 2021, during a window in the pandemic when musicians and audiences could finally come together.
