Das 11. Akkordeon-Kunst-Festival findet am 17. und 18. Juni 2017 in Roseto degli Abruzzi, TE 64026 statt. Das Akkordeon-Art Festival bietet: - Italia-Preis 2017 Internationaler Wettbewerb - Orpheus-Preis 2017 (nur für italienische Teilnehmer ) - Italienische Auswahl zur Teilnahme am CMA 2017 Präsident ist Claudio Azzaro und Künstlerischer Leiter: Renzo Ruggieri. Der Orpheus-Preis 2017 ist ein Kritikerpreis , der, ähnlich wie bei den Academy Awards (Oscar), nur für Produktionen italienischer Akkordeonisten, gewidmet ist. Orpheus Künstlerischer Leiter ist Gerlando Gatto. Es gibt internationale Solo-Wettbewerbskategorien für alle Altersklassen und Arten von Musik, sowie Kategorien für Konzertkünstler und für Akkordeon-Gruppe oder Solist mit neuen Original-Projekt. Internationes Leavenworth Akkordeonfest in Washington – USAby Rob Howard |
Die diesjährige Internationale Leavenworth Akkordeon Celebration findet vom 15. bis 18. Juni in Leavenworth im Washington State statt und wird organisiert vom Northwest Accordion. Die Veranstaltung beinhaltet Akkordeonwettbewerbe, Konzerte, Workshops, freie Akkordeonstunden, eine Messe, Tanz, Jam Sessions und eine Akkordeon-Parade. Zu den diesjährigen Akkordeonisten und Workshop-Vortragenden gehören Stas Venglevski (Moldawien), Sergei Teleshev (Russland), Jim & Shirley O'Brien, Jim Tobler, John Giuliani, Kim & Dan Christian, Kori Tideman & Max Kyllonen, Die Portatos, Mark Myking & Zydeco Rex, Lyn & Tobys Polka Parade, die LIAC Dance Band und die Northwest Accordionaires. Außerdem gibt es eine Roland Virtual Accordion Demonstration von Steve Albini, und eine Ausstellung und Geschichte das diatonischen Akkordeon von Tom Tilton. Irish 2-row diatonic accordionist Sharon Shannon is to perform at the Glastonbury Festival on Friday June 23rd, 4.25pm to 5.05pm, appearing on the Acoustic Stage in a concert that also features Status Quo, Seth Lakeman, Martha Wainwright, and more. Sharon Shannon, from County Clare but now living in Galway, plays the button accordion, melodeon, fiddle, and tin whistle. Originally a competitive show jumper, she switched to playing music professionally in the mid-1980s, and has since enjoyed a very successful international career. She was briefly a member of The Waterboys, but plays mainly as a soloist with her own backing musicians. Sharon Shannon is especially popular with younger audiences, plays frequently to sold-out audiences, and is well-known as an innovator who incorporates other styles such as French-Canadian, Portuguese, Cajun, and Reggae into Irish traditional music. Glastonbury Festival is an annual five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place near Pilton, Somerset. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas, and the festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. |

Helen Rich has released an excellent solo accordion CD, ‘All hands for'ard’, featuring 18 of the many compositions of Gerald Crossman, who was a long time a leading figure in the post-war British accordion scene. Some are played on a Cooperativa double cassotto 120 bass accordion, and others on a Paolo Soprani 96 bass musette accordion. The tracks include: All hands for'ard, El Pico, BAA March, Annette, Granada Mia, Rancherita, Bohemian Polka, Marcha Espanol, A Night in Montmartre, Dancing Clown, Las Fallas, Brasileira, Fortitude, La Vida Latina, Jolly Jack, Valse Acrobatique, El Valiente, and Gay Time. The highly accomplished Gerald Crossman (1920-2015) – accordionist, pianist, organist, bandleader, composer, arranger, festival adjudicator, writer, and a former NAO Vice President. He played the accordion in innumerable BBC radio broadcasts, in concerts, on cruise ships, and on TV and in films. His writing included two tutor books for accordion and 200 articles published in accordion magazines. He also worked as pianist for both Charlie Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich in their stage shows. Manchester-based Helen Rich is an accordionist, pianist and violinist who has performed with distinction at many accordion clubs and festivals in England. International Launch of Accordion Grade Examination Syllabus - South Africaby Rob Howard |
The international launch of the London College of Music Accordion Grade Examination syllabus was held on May 6th, World Accordion Day, at the NG Kerk Lindenpark, Johannesburg, South Africa. Prof. John Howard came from London to co-host the evening, and a spectacular concert was held by the accordion pupils and teachers of Music at the Fingertips Exclusive School. Accordionist and teacher Sergio Zampolli was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the London College of Music, based on a lifetime of "professional achievement". Willem Vogel, Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Theatre was awarded an Honorary Licentiate of the London College of Music, also for a lifetime of "professional achievement". Sergio Zampolli said “This evening was a career highlight for me”. |

Jiachen Xue (China) fresh from 2nd place at the Klingenthal International Competitions in Germany was the Guest Artist at the 2017 New Zealand & South Pacific Accordion Championships. Jiachen Xue has studied with Yanghseng Li in Beijing and Jacques Mornet in France and was placed 2nd at the 2013 Coupe Mondiale Junior Entertainment category and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science at Monash University in Melbourne Australia. In this video Jiachen Xue performs the beautiful Italian Polka composed by Rachmaninoff, arranged Yashkevich. Paolo Bertoli Dance Gigs List for June – Italyby Rob Howard |
Accordionist Paolo Bertoli and his orchestra have an extensive list of dancing gigs during June, as shown on the poster. Paolo Bertoli, was born in Wales, UK, of Italian parents, in 1974. He began playing the accordion at the age of seven, and later moved to Italy, where he formed a dance orchestra that performs frequently in dance halls throughout northern Italy. The accordion/guitar dup Teddy and Cathal Barry perform at the Deanrock Ballroom, Togher, Cork, on Tuesday June 13th, 9.30pm to 11.45pm. Teddy and Cathal Barry are a father and son duo from County Waterford. Teddy Barry won three All Ireland titles on the 3-row British chromatic button accordion in the late 1970s, and has worked ever since as a dance musician and singer. His son Cathal plays drums, button accordion, banjo and guitar, but in a duo with his father plays guitar and sings. |

On Friday June 16th, doors open 7pm, the Guildford Accordion Club presents the Japanese accordionist Masahiro Ogawa in concert. The venue is the Ripley Village Hall, Ripley, Surrey GU23 6AF - free car parking. Admission is £5 (includes refreshments). Masahiro Ogawa has been living and working in London for the past three years and is soon to return to Japan. He started playing the accordion at 5 years old taught by his mother who is a piano and accordion teacher. Since 12 years he has been self-taught and had no further other formal type of training, developing his own style of playing, particularly enjoying playing film scores. He has been a representative for Japan Accordion Promotion Conference (JAPC), whose aim it is to promote the music of the accordion and increasing the number of accordion players. In 2010 he won first prize at the V-Accordion contest organized by Roland in Japan, and competed at the International V-Accordion contest in Rome in October 2010.
