  CIA Secretary General Kimmo Mattila announces that the 2021 Coupe Mondiale online entry system is now open for entries to the 74th Coupe Mondiale from the 2021 General Competition Rules page: 2021CM-RulesCIA President Mirco Patarini invites all (45) CIA members to register delegates to the 146th International Congress of Delegates which meets twice in Munich. President Patarini also invites competitors from all nations to please lodge their entries well before the closing date to assist the organisers for what will certainly be a great Coupe Mondiale. The 74th Coupe Mondiale will be held from 13-17 October 2021 in Munich, Germany hosted by the Deutscher Harmonika-Verband e.V. (DHV). DHV First Vice-President Georg Hettmann welcomes everyone to Munich and the excellent facilities and halls for competitions and concerts.  Frank Busso, Snr will receive the 2022 American Accordionists' Association (AAA) Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 festival which will take place at the Marriott Philadelphia West Hotel in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, USA from July 13th to 22nd, 2022. Frank has faithfully served the AAA as Treasurer, Vice-President, President (1981, 1992-94), and has also chaired many committees including the annual national festivals, and the Young Artists Concert Series. He held the position of the Comptroller of the AAA for many years. For decades, Frank has been an educator, performer, conductor and all-around ambassador of the accordion. You can read the feature article from the 2017 AAA Festival Journal: "Spotlight on Frank Busso Sr.". It is an enjoyable, heartwarming and enlightening biography of a man whose life revolved around his love of the accordion, the national accordion community, and his family. | The 5th Summer Academy of Harmonica will be held at the Summer International Accordion Academy (SIAA), Hostel Panorama, Portoroz, Piran, Slovenia from 18th to 22nd August, 2021. The event is a five day accordion adventure on the Slovenian Coast organised by the Association of Slovenian Accordeonists, Director Marko Stumperger. Tutors Prof. Ozren Stevanovic, Prof. Marjan Krajna, Prof. Zoran Lupinc, Prof. Andreas Nebl and Director Marko Stumperger, will offer Masterclasses, professional mentoring, lectures, chamber play, orchestral play, as well as “Acquainting with Literature”, an accordion exhibition and socialising & entertainment. SIAA participants are students (aged from 7 to 18 years old) and adults without age limit, from 8 different countries. This year's summer academy will also serve as preparation for the festival of chamber groups and diatonic accordion soloists that will take place in October at the Laško-Radece Music School in Slovenia.  On June 25th, the German government decided that an entry for non-EU citizens to Germany is possible.Travellers have to show a proof of recovery or vaccination (with one of the EU confirmed vaccines). Entry is possible no matter the reason for the journey. The different regulations for basic risk areas, high incidence areas or area of variants of concern are valid as well.  Video: Closing Concert of the 2021 Yangtai Mountain Cup and National Accordion Art Festival for Primary and Middle School students, Shenzhen has been held in China from 16th - 17th January.President of the Juries Mr. Tong Jianhua reported that the overall improvement of the technical level of the contestants has exceeded the previous festival. There was a total of 2,392 contestants from 65 cities of 31 provinces and municipalities. | On June 18th, Accordions Worldwide published “Berlin Celebrates Piazzolla” in the Weekly News. You can see the item at: http://www.accordions.com/news.aspx?d=18-Jun-2021&lang=en#art17700 When concerts with an audience were still impossible due to the pandemic, musicians from seven European countries met with strings from the Berliner Symphoniker to record the big concert “Berlin celebrates Piazzolla” on May 30th, 2021 in the Auenkirche. The first part of the concert has now been published. The Quinteto Respiro, consisting of Sebastien Innocenti (bandoneon), Emilie Aridon-Kociolek (piano), Sabrina Condello (violin), Fabio Lo Curto (bass clarinet) and Dorian Marcel (double bass) has presented an excellent program of the highest quality. Outstanding international accordionists such as Yuri Shishkin, Sergei Osokin, Egle Bartkeviciute, Gorka Hermosa as well as the talented young accordionists Piotr Yarinenko and Ryan Corbett presented a very interesting program together with strings from the Berliner Symphoniker under the conductor Symeon Ioannidis. There were also two world premieres: “Dwarves‘ Tales” for accordion and strings by Gorka Hermosa which is dedicated to the Pantonale Festival, and “Infinito” for accordion and strings by Victor Vlasov. |

 The St Audries Bay holiday team have sadly announced that the July 2021 Accordion Week in Somerset has been cancelled due to the current pandemic and restrictions. The camp cannot operate the restaurant or bar for our accordion week.However, some positive news - the dates have been confirmed for 2022. They are July 9th to 15th, 2022, so please mark these dates in your diary. Performers include Michael Bridge (digital accordion) in duo with Kornel Wolak (clarinet), and Stas Venglevski (acoustic accordion) in duo with Rene Izquierdo (guitar). The duo comprises of singer-cellist Bonnie Schwarz and accordionist Pete Shaw. They will be joined by New Zealand singer/songwriter Jenny Mitchell (picture right) for their September concerts. They enjoy playing “folk-infused music that tests the limits of their traditional instruments, maintaining folk roots of musical storytelling amongst their energetic, virtuosic playing. | Klaus Paier will hold a Jazz Accordion Workshop at the Musikforum in Klagenfurt-Viktring, Austria from July 26th to 29th, 2021. The workshop will be in German and English languages for accordionists, teachers and students. The program will cover group and individual work for accordion and bandoneon in jazz, tango and more, improvisation, interpretation and practice concepts. Paier will use his own musical biography to try to trace tendencies and developments of jazz and jazz-related music.  The CNIMA directed by Nathalie Boucheix will hold an accordion workshop with Claude Thomain (picture left) from August 9th to 13th, 2021 in Saint-Sauves-d’Auvergne, France.Claude Thomain is an accordion composer of “melodic yet innovative pieces that are played all over the world.” Interested students are encouraged to join this workshop to work on one of his pieces under his guidance and take part in an accordion orchestra. “Duo Absoluto” Perform at Vlasim Castle – Czech Republicby Christine Johnstone |
 Video: Martin Kot & Viktor Stocker performing Adios Nonino by Astor Piazzolla“Duo Absoluto”, which includes young accordionists Viktor Stocker and Martin Kot, finished their school year with a performance in the courtyard of Vlasim castle in Vlasim, Czech Republic recently. The duo was formed in 2019 and since that time the boys have won a variety of competitions as a duo and as soloists including 1st place in the Chamber Music category of the 2019 International Accordion Days in Prague. Recently, they received the results of the National accordion competition in Dobrany (Czech Republic). Martin Kot won 1st place in the Senior Classic category, and Viktor Stocker won 1st place in the popular music under 12 years category. Both boys qualified as representatives of the Czech Republic for the 2021 accordion competition Trophée Mondial De L'accordion. |

| New CD release, Catalog CD030 "Double Mirror" composed by Efrem Podgaits, performed by Friedrich Lips with Alexander Buzlov (cello) and the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev has been long awaited. This live recording in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on October 4th, 2018, received 1st prize at the international competition “Pure Sound“ for the best audio recording of works of Russian academic music in 2019. Recording engineer: Victor Osadchev. Efrem Podgaits writes “The Double Mirror“ concerto for cello, bayan and orchestra was written at the request of my friend Friedrich Lips, the outstanding bayanist. The epigraph to the composition are lines from the novel Middlemarch by George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans): “Like a double mirror, the Soul will give birth to rows of beautiful reflections, extending them forward and backward“. “Double Mirror“ is a one-part composition in the center of which there are two heroes: a bayan and a cello......
