| Die Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) freut sich, offiziell den “Tag des Akkordens“ zu proklamieren. Bei der letzten 120. CIA General Delegiertenversammlung in Glasgow, Schottland, mit Mitgliedern aus ca. 30 Nationen, wurde der 6. Mai, einstimmig als weltweit der „Tag des Akkordeons” ausgewählt. (der Tag, an dem das Akordeon patentiert wurde 1829). An diesem Tag wird die CIA jährlich und weltweit Festivitäten zelebrieren in einer einheitlichen globalen Crusade um die Vielfalt des Akkordeons und seiner herausragenden Künstler zu ehren und fördern. In vielen Ländern der Welt gibt es bereits auf nationaler Ebene an verschiedenen Tagen agbehaltene Wel-Akkordeon-Tage, dies ist aber eine einzigartige Gelegenheit um weltweit das Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit dem Akkordeon gegenüber (ein Instrument ohne Grenzen, das sich über alle Kulturen und Genres durchgesetzt hat), zu nutzen. Der erste CIA Welt-Akkordeon-Tag findet am 6. Mai 2009, dem 180. Geburtstag des Akkordeons, statt. Akkordeonisten aus aller Welt sind eingeladen, an dieser Einweihungsfeier, während eine Hommage an das Akkordeon teilzunehmen. Bitte besuchen Sie die Welt Akkordeon Day-Webseite für weitere Information. Ab Mitte Januar wird dort ein Anmelde-Teilnahmeformular aktiviert. Charles Camilleri verstroben - Maltaby Tania Lukic-Marx |
 Der bekannte maltesische Komponist Charles Camilleri ist am Samstag, 10 Jänner in Malta im Alter von 77 Jahren verstorben. Camilleri gilt heute als einer der wichtigsten Komponisten seiner Generation. Er schrieb ca. 300 Kompositionen, von denen circa die Hälfte auf 36 CDs aufgenommen und weltweit verkauft wurden. Charles Camilleri war Komponist des 1964 CIA Coupe Mondiale Pflichtstückes "Danza Latina" und Organisator des Coupe Mondiale Events im Jahre 1965 in Valleta Malta. 1972 erhielt er den begehrten CIA Merit Award. Er hinterläßt seine Frau Doris, seinen Sohn Charles, die Tochter Anya, 5 Enkel in Malta sowie seine einzige Schwester Yvonne Attard in Sydney Australien.  Mein lieber Freund und Accordion Tribe Kollege, Lars Hollmer (1948-2008), ist am 25. December 2008 im Alter von 60 Jahren von uns gegangen.Ich hörte Larsßs Musik zum ersten Mal hörte in den frühen 90er Jahren, durch Sänger-Songschreiber und außergewöhnlichen DJ David Garland. Ich erkannte sofort einen Seelenverwandten und er war die erste Person, die ich eingeladen habe, mitzumachen, was schließlich zur Accordion Tribe wurde. 1996 begannen wir mit der Gruppe und spielten seither zusammen, aber ab sofort wird es wohl eine klaffende Leere, sowohl auf der Bühne als auch in unseren Herzen geben. Lars war ein auto-didact und Multi-Instrumentalist (Akkordeon, Keyboards, Stimme, Melodica, usw.), völlig offen und furchtlos in seinem Konzept für Musik. Er konnte unverschämt sentimental (Boeves Psalm bald Song), schreiben, unglaublich dichten und komplexen Kontrapunkt (einige der besten von ihnen Pas-de-Valse, Utflykt med Damcyckle), aber auch verschmitzt und freudig wie (Circus I, II). Diese Stücke ist nur aus unserem Accordion Tribe Repertoire! Er nahm die unglaubliche Anzahl von 30 Alben auf, vor allem in seinen legendären Home Studio, dem „Chickenhouse“, sowohl solo (11), als auch mit seinen vielen Gruppen, einschließlich des Looping Home Orchestras und Samla Mammas Manna. Was war unser gemeinsames Element? Hier sein Zitat aus dem Dokumentarfilm "Accordion Tribe: Music Travels" (Stefan Schwietert, Maximage Films, 2002), "Es beginnt hier", (sagt er und zeigt auf sein Herz), "es kann auch hier durch, "(er zeigt auf seinen Kopf)," aber es beginnt mit dem Herzen.  Der 9. ‘Ascoltate 2009’ Wettbewerb wird in Prienai, Lithuanien vom 3.-7. Juni 2009 durchgeführt. Die Prienai Region und die Veiveriai A.Kucingis Kunstschule, sowie die Kaunas Akkordeonsociety sind die offiziellen Sponsor diesen einmaligen Events für junge Akkordeonkünstler.  Intermusik Zeitung 2009 Editorial, von Ulrich Schmülling. Liebe Leser! das Weihnachtsfest und der Neujahrswechsel waren diesmal für uns nicht mit Freude oder mit Feiern verbunden. Wir mußten überraschend den Tod eines Menschen hinnehmen, der zum engsten Kreis des Verlages zählte: Lina Klimkaite. Ihre außergewöhliche Persönlichkeit sind für uns Grund, das Editorial dieser Ausgabe ihr allein zu widmen. Vor fast 20 Jahren fand sie als junge Litauerin Verbindung dem seinerzeitigen Musikverlag Intermusik Schmülling. Bald begann sie, den Unternehmensbereich EDV-Notensatz aufzubauen und hat ihn bis heute betreut; vor 18 Jahren hat sie die Zeitung INTERMUSIK mitbegründet und in den letzten 5 Jahren die UAB Intermusic in Litauen, den einzigen Musikverlag des Landes, geführt. Lina Klimkaite war studierte Musikwissenschaftlerin und professionelle Sängerin, sprach vier Sprachen fließend, und ist letztlich zur derjenigen Mitarbeiterin mit der längsten Zugehörigkeit zu unserem Haus geworden. Mehr als die Hälfte dieser Zeit lebte sie in Deutschland. Lina zeichnete sich durch eine überragende Kommunikationsfähigkeit aus, ein in wahrhaft jeder Lebenslage und zu jeder Zeit frohsinniges Gemüt, eine immerwährende allseitige Offenherzigkeit allem und jedem gegenüber und vor allem durch eine weit übermenschliche Wärme, Selbstlosigkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft aus. Wer auch immer mit ihr zu tun hatte, und sei es nur für kurze Augenblicke, hat in Lina Klimkaite jemanden gefunden, dem er sich grenzenlos anvertrauen konnte, der ihm ein hingebungsvoller Zuhörer war und dessen einzigartiges Wesen man unmöglich vergessen konnte. Im Alter von nur 43 Jahren erlag sie ihrer für alle völlig überraschenden Krebserkrankung, trotz der sie bis zum letzten Moment für Musiker und Komponisten, für den Verlag, die Kunden und für jeden anderen, der sie benötigte, zur Verfügung stand. Dezember 2008 Sie verstarb in Panevezys, ihrem Geburtsort, den sie als junges Mädchen einst verlassen hatte, um zunächst in der litauischen Hauptstadt Vilnius zu studieren und anschließend für unsere Verlage – und in großem Umfang auch für die Akkordeonszene – in zahlreiche Länder der Welt zu reisen. Der Wert eines Menschen wird der Umgebung erst dann tatsächlich bewußt, wenn der Mensch nicht mehr da ist. So geht es auch uns. Die landläufigen Erkenntnisse „jeder ist irgendwie ersetzbar“ und „irgendwie geht es immer weiter“ verfehlen in diesem Fall ihre Wirkung und entgleiten in die Bedeutungslosigkeit. Ihren tatsächlichen Verlust und ihre Bedeutung angemessen in Worte zu fassen gelingt uns selbst bei aller journalistischer Fertigkeit nicht, wie wir jetzt feststellen müssen.  The last composition of renowned Russian composer Anatoli Kusjakov, his Sonata No. 7 'Misterium' is now available for viewing on the popular YouTube site. The work is performed by Finnish concert accordionist Mika Väyrynen during a concert in Andoain, Spain on 16th November 2009, an event sponsored by the Unión de Acordeonistas de España (UNAC), organized by their President Angel Luis Castaño. This last composition of Kusjakov before his untimely passing on July 11th 2007, this work was commissioned by the Finnish Accordion Institute and dedicated to Mika Väyrynen. This new work has remained a relative mystery to the accordion world, with very few people having had the opportunity to hear it so far. The World Premiere was given by Mika at a concert at the Royal Academy of Music in London on 14 April 2008 and he has since recorded for his upcoming CD, due for release this year. To share this work with the accordion world and general public, Mika has granted permission to release this live performance on YouTube. The music will be published during this Spring, and will be available from the Finnish Accordion Institute. | The Arrasate Hiria XVI competition took place in Gipuzkoa, in the Basque region of Northern Spain from December 5th to 9th. Sixteen Contestants from around the world competed in the renowned XVI Certamen Internacional “Arrasate Hira International Accordion Competition, representing 10 different countries. The International jury was made up of: Cao Xiao-Qing (China), Matti Rantanen (Finland), Claudio Jacomucci (Italy), Stefan Hussong (Germany) and Carlos Iturralde (Spain).   Concert accordionist, Mary Tokarski, has recently released her second solo CD :”Music with Mary . . . with my friends!” Mary Tokarski, is an internationally renowned accordionist winning two U.S.Championship Titles and a 3rd place in the 1973 Coupe Mondiale. Mary is a Board of Directors member for the American Accordionists' Association (AAA) as well as the Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG). As a member of the internationally reknowned K Trio, Mary performed in concert throughout the United States and internationally with her sister Julie and brother Walter. The K Trio included a wide variety of musical genres, and has been acclaimed as one of the finest accordion ensembles. Her 2 solo CDs have received international acclaim. Mary was chosen by New Zealand composer Gary Daverne to perform many of his compositions for accordion and symphony orchestra on his new CD release “Rhapsody”.  Tom Bruno, aged 36, accordionist, repair technician and expert tuner, who had a shop in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, died on December 30th as the result of an accident. Tom was cutting a tree down, which fell on him.Mr. Bruno began an accordion repair and restoration apprenticeship at the age of 12 under Mario Mosti, his teacher and mentor, eventually taking over the business upon Mosti’s retirement in 1997. Tom Bruno was also a fine concert accordionist, and had performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He was a great admirer of Charles Magnante, and specialized in performing Magnante's compositions and arrangements. Tom was the featured artiste when the Magnante Estate was donated to A World of Accordions Museum in Superior, Wisconsin, in 2000. He has also recorded a CD of Magnante's music. The funeral took place on January 5th at Mount Saint Peters church, and accordionist Henry Doktorski played ‘Ave Maria’ during the service. Our condolences to his family and friends. |

 On January 4th 2009 the CD ‘Jump the Borde’, by the jazz and blues singer Scott Buck from New York, was broadcast on the San Miguel de Allende-based radio program World Accordion. The CD was recorded in San Miguel de Allende, and involved musicians Salomon Canelo (accordion), Julian Arcos (quarto), Pedro Cartas (violin), Luis Gasca (trumpet), Jorge Estrada (organ and piano), Gilberto Gonzalez (bass) and Cody Moffet (drums).  The New Year sees three further NAO Area Festivals to be held in the next four weeks. The NAO NORTHERN IRELAND Area to be held on Saturday 24th January organised by Clyde Johnston in Larne, the NAO MIDLANDS Area on Sunday 25th January organised by Pauline Noon in Countesthorpe Hall Leicester and the NAO NORTH CENTRAL Area on Saturday 7th February organised by Harry Hinchcliffe in Victoria Hall, Saltaire Yorkshire. All these competitions are qualification festivals for the UK Championships 2009 in April and feature categories for all ages and levels including digital accordion.  Gianni Donnini, of the group La Damigiana will be the teacher of the Saltarello workshop. Saltarello was previously many centuries before, an Italian dance improvisation practiced outdoors and in local work during breaks or at the end of farm work (harvesting, reaping, harvesting), in each season and at any time. Gianni Donnini, organettista / researcher born in Osimo and resident in Fabriano (AN), plays this music since he was twelve years of age. He had the good fortune of being able to learn the Saltarello Marches directly from older players in the local area between Osimo Jesi and Filottrano (province of Ancona) and, in turn, now, is trying to convey this important traditional cultural heritage to others. His passion for the Saltarello Marches would help to start research work in this field, going to find older players, with the aim to publish a detailed document about this particular dance. | Stockport Accordion Club’s first concert of 2009 takes place on Wednesday January 14th, with The Bon Accords, from Dumfries, Scotland, as our guest artistes. The Bon Accords are husband and wife Robin and Deryn Waitt, who play Shand Morino button accordion and piano accordion respectively. They are very experienced accordion entertainers, and well known around the Box & Fiddle clubs.
