Trophée Mondial de la CMA à Portimao - Portugalby Heather Masefield |
Le 66ème Trophée Mondial s'est tenu à Portimao, Portugal, du 26 septembre au 1er octobre 2016, organisé par Goncalo Pescada. Le président de la CMA Frédéric Deschamps s'est réjouit d'accueillir des concurrents de plus de 20 pays dans les diverses catégories du concours parmi lesquelles les catégories du Trophée National : moins de 17, moins de 15, moins de 12 et moins de 10 ans. La catégorie sénior classique était remportée par Vitaly Kondratenko (Russie), photo ci-dessous, qui devançait de très peu Junhao Mao (China), photo de gauche, à la 2ème place. Les autres gagnants du Trophée Mondial sont : Senior Variété - Anatoli Taran (Biélorussie) Junior Classique - Radu Ratoi (Moldavie) Junior Variété - Radu Ratoi (Moldavie) Masters - Dusan Ceganjac (Serbie) World Music - The Pillers Quartet (Autriche) Les vainqueurs du trophée national : 18 & Under - Nikita Alymov (Russie) 15 & Under - Zhang Shuo (Chine) 12 & Under - Leith Del Campo (France) 10 & Under - Hugo Madeira (Portugal) Le jury international comprenait de nombreux professeurs reconnus. Santiago Jimenez Jr reçoit la Médaille nationale des Arts 2015 - USAby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
A la Maison Blanche, un moment d'exception pour un grand artiste américain, musicien d'orchestre latino, joueur de diatonique, Santiago Jimenez Jr. Santiago Jimenez Jr est l'un des 4 récipiendaires (et le seul accordéoniste) des médailles nationales des Arts 2015. Les trois autres récipiendaires sont l'écrivaine Sandra Cisneros, le réalisateur, acteur et défenseur des droits de l'homme Luis Valdez et le scénariste Moisés Kaufman. La médaille a été remise à Santiago Jimenez Jr pour sa contribution à l'ouverture de la musique américaine. Les médailles, décernées annuellement par la Fondation pour les Arts, sont la plus haute distinction remise aux artistes et acteurs de l'art par le gouvernement US. La remise par le président des E.U. Barak Obama a eu lieu le 22 septembre à Washington Santiago Jimenez Jr a aidé au développement de la musique d'ensemble traditionnelle par le mélange des sons et des cultures du Texas du Sud et de Mexico. Résultats des prix de la musique écossaise traditionnelle, Dundee – Royaume-Uniby Rob Howard |
Les 13èmes prix de la musique écossaise traditionnelle se sont tenus la semaine passée au Caird Hall de Dundee. Retransmis en direct par la BBC ALBA, BBC Radio Scotland et diffusé mondialement pour la toute première fois en streaming par le site web de BBC ALBA , ces prix organisés par Hands Up for Trad, ont vu les stars de la scène Scottish célébrer et honorer cet art traditionnel. L'événement fut ouvert par les Peatbog Faeries, suivis par un set de l'accordéoniste Tom Orr et de la joueuse de fiddle Marie Fielding dont la musique a réellement fait swinguer le public. Tous deux étaient nommés dans différentes catégories et ils ont clairement montré pourquoi. Le célébre duo accordéon/fiddle de Aly Bain et Phil Cunningham, accompagné au piano par Violet Tulloch, a donné un grand show, très apprécié par le public (photo ci-dessous). La secrétaire d'état à la culture Fiona Hyslop fut parmi ceux qui prirent la parole, tous célébrant la culture traditionnelle écossaise. Le gagnant du prix Groupe de danse de l'année fut l'accordéoniste Simon Howie and his SDB. Le prix Accordéon & Fiddle de l'année fut remis à Orkney Une cérémonie de remise des prix à tous les gagnants sera organisée le samedi 3 décembre au Caird Hall de Dundee. |
Drums2Accordions et sa chanteuse se produisent devant le Président Dalia Grybauskaitė - Lithuanieby Harley Jones |
Le créatif groupe Drums2Accordions et sa chanteuse Lina Fovaite ont été invités à se produire lors de la réception des athlétes olympiques donnée par le président lithuanien Dalia Grybauskaite. Les sportifs et les autres invités ont été impressionnés par le son unique de ces jeunes musiciens, par leur énergie, leur charme et leur talent. Les membres du groupe sont : Audrius Daucianskas (accordéon), Tautvydas Jurkša (accordéon), Jurgis Jakunas (drums/percussiosn), Lina Rovaite (chant). Ces musiciens ont participé avec succès à des concours en Italie, Slovenie, Allemagne, Slovakie, Suisse, Autriche, Lithuanie, Finlande. Le répertoire de Drums2Accordions est riche de leurs propres chansons et d'arrangements sur de la musique populaire des Balkans, des airs d'afrique du Sud et de jazz, ce qui plait au plus grand nombre et leur permet de jouer partout en Lithuanie. |

Mie Miki Records Works by J.S. Bach in Länna - Swedenby Rob Howard |
Japanese virtuoso Mie Miki is currently recording works by JS Bach in the beautiful and atmospheric parish church in Länna, Sweden. This CD will be a follow up to a Bach recording she made in 1998 that was re-issued earlier this year. Mie Miki started playing the accordion at the age of 4. At the age of 8, she made her first radio broadcast for NHK in Tokyo. At the age of 16, she moved to Germany to study at the Trossingen Academy of Music. After completing her studies and winning some competitions, Mie Miki started her active performing career in Europe and Asia. In the 1980s, she was invited to introduce the classical accordion for the first time in the People’s Republic of China. Mie Miki is a Professor for Accordion and Vice-President at the Folkwang Universität der Künste Essen in Germany, and Honorary Professor at the Xinjian Arts College in China. |

HHS Bischofsheim concert with Crewe Brass, Cheshire – UKby Rob Howard |
HHS Bischofsheim (MD Stefan Finkenauer), an accordion orchestra from Germany, shared a concert with Crewe Brass (MD Jamie Meredith) on Saturday October 1st in the cathedral-like splendour of St Mary’s Church in Nantwich, Cheshire. A large audience enjoyed sparkling performances, first from the local brass band, then the visiting accordion orchestra, and finishing with both bands together for a magnificent finale. The Crewe Brass programme included Liberty Fanfare, Selection from Les Miserables, Under the Boardwalk, Game of Thrones, and Procession to the Minster. HHS Bischofsheim’s programme included Miss Saigon Medley, Choral and Rock Out, The Lord of the Dance, You’ll be in my heart, Finlandia, and Chatanooga Choo Choo. The concert came to a memorable conclusion with the two bands together for rousing performances of the Florentine March and Highland Cathedral, showcasing the brilliance of these contrasting yet compatible ensembles. Since 2010 Crewe Brass has had a strong friendship with HHS Bischofsheim, from Crewe and Nantwich’s twin town, and they have shared a stage several times both in England and Germany. Martín Elías and Rolando Ochoa Nomination for Latin Grammy - USAby Harley Jones |
With the recent release of his music video "Cancelada de Mi Vida", Martín Elías and Rolando Ochoa, received the nomination for the Latin Grammy in the category of Best Album Cumbia/Vallenato for the album "Imparables." This project was done at the R8 Sound studios in the city of Valledupar, being produced by Rolando Ochoa and with the musical direction of Marlon Escobar. The CD "Imparables" has proven to be a big hit through its four singles that have reached the first positions at radio stations in Colombia: "Loco por tu amor", "El Latigo", "Mi ex" written by Omar Geles and "Cancelada de mi vida" written by Rolando Ochoa, with a video of latter having been officially released last Tuesday, September 27, where Martín Elias is acting for the first time, becoming the main character in his new audiovisual production. |

The Occasionals, featuring accordionist Freeland Barbour, perform as guests at the Stonehouse Accordion & Fiddle Club on Monday October 10th, 7pm until 11m. The venue is The Stonehouse Bowling Club, Vicars Road, Storehouse, South Lanarkshire ML9 3EB, Scotland. The Occasionals are widely regarded as one of the foremost Scottish ceilidh dance bands and have been playing since 1986. Equally at home playing for Ceilidh, Old Time, or Scottish Country Dance, the band also include concert work, are regulars on TV and radio, have 7 best-selling CDs to their credit, and are all well-known solo performers. As the leading folk music magazine Folk Roots put it - "If you want straight down the line dance music you can't do much better than The Occasionals". Freeland Barbour is an accordionist, pianist and a prolific composer. The Akkordeonakut festival okt 2016 – a ‘global music festival’ - takes place from Friday October 14th to Sunday October 23rd at venues in Halle, Saale, Germany. This festival offers a wide range of events, including concerts, workshops, tango dance tuition, Buster Keaton silent movies with accordion accompaniment, quiz show, and an accordion exhibition. Performers include Renato Borghetti (Brazil), Dikanda (Poland), Cathrin Pfeifer & Sonny Thet, Godard/Biondini/Niggli, Landes-Akkordeon-Ensemble, Bundesakkordeon Orchester, and the Rebekka Bakken Accordion Project. The New Hampshire Accordion Association (NHAA) and ACCORDIONS NOW! Music Festival (ANMF) will hold an important re-organizational meeting on Saturday October 15th, from 12.30 to 4pm in Classroom 8/9 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 274 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301. Everyone is invited to attend. With the retirement of Arthur and Sue Welch and their closing of Accordion Connection LLC, NHAA is currently “homeless” and exploring its future and that of the ACCORDIONS NOW! Music Festival, previously co-sponsored by NHAA and Accordion Connection. The future of NHAA and ANMF, including the topic of potential meeting spaces, will be discussed in the business portion of the meeting. Please bring your best ideas. Donal Ring Ceili Band 58th Anniversary Dance Night – Irish Republicby Rob Howard |
The Donal Ring Ceili Band, one of Ireland’s best known and longest active ceili bands, perform for a dance to celebrate Donal Ring’s 58th anniversary as a band leader on Sunday October 16th, 8pm until midnight, at the Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire, County Cork. Donal Ring (born 1935), an admirer of Jimmy Shand and a player of the Shand Morino button accordion, formed his own ceili band in 1958. Through many recordings and broadcasts on Radio Eireann, Radio Luxembourg, and the BBC, the Donal Ring Ceili Band became well known and highly regarded far and wide. The `Ken and Mary Turbo Accordions Express`, from Ohio, USA, perform a series of Pilsener Oktoberfest concerts in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America, at the end of this month. The tour is arranged by the Miller Beer Brewing Company, and the dates include: Thursday October 27th, 12noon and 8pm Friday October 28th, 3pm and 8pm Saturday October 29th, 3pm and 8pm Sunday October 30th, 3pm and 8pm Ken Nicol plays the diatonic button accordion and also the tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, and mandola. He had his own ragtime/jazz band for many years, playing in and around Ohio as well as performing in the German Pavillon at Disney’s Epcot Center and at the Altstadt Fest in Goslar/Harz, Germany.
