Video: Wiener Neustädter ZiehHarmoniker - That’s groovy! - Austriaby Harley Jones |
Friederike Steiner, Conductor. The Wiener Neustädter ZiehHarmoniker performing at the 2014 Coupe Mondiale in Salzburg. This video is the first half of their performance. View the second half performance, second video box at: http://www.coupemondiale.org/2014/V31snvR2Eur.htm The accordion orchestra was founded in 1978 and, over the years, evolved from a five-member ensemble to a big orchestra conducted by Friederike Steiner since 30 years. Nowadays, in addition to the orchestra, there are also an ensemble and a youth orchestra, to develop the future generation of accordionists. The numerous activities of the ZiehHarmoniker range from regional concerts to various events throughout Austria and participation in church occasions. Musically, the compromise between the technical possibilities as non-professionals and their own high expectations is being targeted. The repertoire includes mostly swing and jazz specially arranged for accordion orchestra. However, Tango or Tango Nuevo as well as “classics” from pop and rock are also going to be performed. In various competitions awards were achieved, recently 2nd price at the “Prague Harmonica Days 2013” when performing “Escualo” by Astor Piazzolla/Werner Weibert, “Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka” by Johann Strauss and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Freddie Mercury in the category of adult orchestras. |
