Congrès d’hiver de la Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) – Bosnie Herzégovineby Kevin Friedrich, CIA Ambassador |

 La Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) a tenu son congrès d’hiver à Sarajevo-Est en Bosnie Herzégovine du 28 février au 2 mars 2014. L’assemblée générale et les réunions connexes ont été accueillies par le membre local de la CIA, la Muzicka Akademija Istocno Sarajevo (Académie de Musique de Sarajevo-Est) sous la direction de Zoran Rakic.Photo des participants ci-dessous. Raymond Bodell a souhaité la bienvenue à tous les participants à ce premier évènement organisé en Bosnie Herzégovine, la 131ème assemblée générale des délégués et le congrès d’hiver. Le congrès a accueilli deux nouveaux membres de la CIA : - VZW Accordeon Salon (Belgium) - International Art Centre and Acco Holiday Festival of Kiev (Ukraine) Trois nominations avaient été suggérées pour les prix de la CIA, toutes on été validées : - CIA Merit Award: Herbert Scheibenreif (Austria) - CIA Merit Award: Luigi Bruti (Italy) - CIA Honored Friend of the Accordion: Marco Cinaglia (Italy). Le comité musical de la CIA a finalisé le projet de promotion des nouvelles compositions acceptées dans le catalogue de la CIA. Il est également prévu une information sur le web pour inciter les compositeurs à écrire pour l’accordéon. L’association autrichienne d’accordéon (Harmonikaverband Österreichs - HVÖ) a confié à Werner Weibert et Herbert Scheibenreif les comptes-rendus préparatoires de la Coupe Mondiale 2014 qui se tiendra au centre des congrès de classe mondiale de Salzbourg du 27 octobre au 2 novembre.  La plus ancienne fabrique française d’accordéon, menacée de fermeture, a reçu un soutien inattendu qui la maintient à flot, celui du footballeur d’Arsenal (Holloway, Londres), Laurent Koscielny (Photo de droite).La société des accordéons Maugein a été fondée en 1919 mais a connu récemment des temps difficiles dus aux exportations à bas coûts de Chine et d’Europe de l’Est. D’après le journal britannique The Guardian, le maire de Tulle Bernard Combes a contacté Koscielny qui est aussi de Tulle, ville d’implantation de Maugein. Selon l’article, Laurent Koscielny a apporté 600 000 € et fait partie d’un groupe d’investisseurs dont l’objectif est de conserver l’entreprise avec pour résultat le sauvetage de 20 emplois. |

Joe Soprani (80 ans) accordéoniste, enseignant et compositeur-arrangeur domine la scène accordéon à Philadelphie depuis plus de 45 ans. Parmi ses nombreuses réussites, il est le seul accordéoniste dans l’histoire de l’Orchestre de Philadelphie a avoir joué en soliste invité sous la baguette d’Eugene Ormandy. Il a aussi été l’accordéoniste solo de l’orchestre de l’US Air Force à Whashington DC et il fut durant 8 ans accordéon solo du Pennsylvania Army National Guard Band. Joe Soprani a collaboré avec Bon Jovi, joué à la maison Blanche avec les ténors Pavarotti et Russell Watson, avec Peter Nero et les Philly Pops, à la TV nationale et plus encore... ‘Dizzy Fingers: the Life of Joe Soprani’ explore une vie remarquable pleine de musique.   Accordionists are a special type of people. If you are one, you automatically know what I mean. We are people who love the accordion…. playing it, attending concerts, learning about it, socializing and performing with people who like accordions….. and we are accordion groupies, and we worship the amazingly gifted ones…….. such as the late great jazz artist, Frank Marocco.Then there are those who are not only all of the above but are even more. I am talking about Joan and Dan Grauman (picture left), who have a special gift of making friends and bringing them all together on "Planet Accordion", which happened to be annually in Mesa, Arizona for the past eight years. The eight years of the MESA accordion event originally named the FMAE (Frank Marocco Accordion Event) provided a unique musical experience for musician and non-musician alike. It was eight years of memorable times including the special years when the legendary Frank Marocco shared his musical expertise in a way both kind and exciting. Stas Venglevski took over the baton with great skill after Frank's passing. For the 2014 MESA event, in honor of her 80th birthday, Joan Sommers (picture right), Professor Emerita, University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music, internationally known conductor and arranger, was invited to be the guest conductor and concert leader. Everyone who attended left the MESA events with very special memories, new ideas, new friends, an encouraging and newly renewed enthusiasm for learning and performing, and a huge amount of gratitude to the devoted FMAE/MESA organizers, Joan and Dan Grauman. |

 Composer Bjorn Bolstad Skjelbred, Oslo, Norway, will be flying to the USA to attend the first 7 performances of his newest work ‘ConVergEnce for Accordion and Cello’. Download Press Release (9 pages): SkjelbredPRThe concerts are scheduled in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Together with ‘ConVergEnce’, the concert will also include Skjelbred’s classical guitar solo, ‘Moves’, Magnar Am’s ‘On the Banks of the Eternal Second’, and Wolfgang Plagge’s ‘Fractals’. In April 2013, the Norwegian Composers Fund awarded Mr. Skjelbred a 60,000 kroner commissioning grant to write ‘ConVergEnce’. Mr. Skjelbred’s travel and lodging expenses are covered by generous grants from the Norwegian Association of Composers and Music. The world premiere is scheduled at Everett Theater in Bennnington, VT, with cellist Michael Gilbert Ronstadt and accordionist Rocco Anthony Jerry. Cellists Jared Shapiro and Dr. David Bebe will be performing with Mr. Jerry for the later concerts in the tour. Classical guitarist Eric Despard will be performing Skjelbred’s ‘Moves’ at all the venues. |

 The Accordion Babes 2015 Album & Pin-Up Calendar is now in preparation, and the deadline for submission of photo, song on CD, etc, is May 1st. The calendar is expected to go to print by May 31st.There are lots of tips and diagrams available from the organizer Renee de la Prade for producing a calendar-quality photo, including nuts-and-bolts stuff like image dimensions, and some do's and don'ts for your photo shoot. Please note that a photo needs to be accompanied by a photo release form signed by the applicant and her photographer. There are only a few rules for the song submission: 1) You need a professional quality recording of your song, in WAV or AIFF format.  The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending March 10th 2000 reported that Swedish accordionist Ari Haatainen was soon to perform with the legendary Italian operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007). Many accordionists have had the privilege of working with Pavarotti, including Frank Marocco, Joseph Macerollo, Penny Sanborn, Mike Timoney, Frank Caruso, Bart Beninco, Robert Atwood, Lou Fanucci, and Vito DiSalvo. Swedish Accordionist to Perform with Pavarotti in USA Swedish accordionist Ari Haatainen will perform with Pavarotti in July this year in the USA. Ari has played with Pavarotti on a number of occasions during the last ten years, firstly in Stockholm, Sweden (1989), Los Angeles, USA (1994), Gotenborg, Sweden (1996) Paris, France (1998) and five concerts in Stockholm, Oslo (Norway), Munchen (Germany) and Helsinki (Finland) during 1999. Ari has also played on Pavarotti's CD recordings and television appearances. Pieces include Neapolitan songs with Symphonic orchestra such as Non ti scordar di me, Mamma and Chitarra Romana. |

 Nous avons le plaisir de proposer deux académies d'été qui accueilleront l'accordéon:L'Académie Internationale de Musiques de Villelongue-dels-Monts (Pyrénées-Orientales) se déroulera du 30 Juillet au 11 Août. Cette rencontre multidisciplinaire – en plus des cours d'instrument et de musique de chambre dispensés par de grandes figures des disciplines classiques, jazz ou traditionnelles – propose un large panel d'ateliers nourrissant la pratique musicale. Quatre jours intenses de festival accueillant une trentaine de concerts donnés par les professeurs et les élèves clôtureront cette académie stimulante. → Informations et inscriptions email: academie.delsmonts@gmx.fr L' Académie-Festival Cortinas 2014 aura lieu du 23 au 30 Août à Villingen en Allemagne, au cœur de la Forêt Noire. Elles s'adressent à tous les âges et à tous les niveaux : des amateurs en quête de découverte et de plaisir musical aux pré-professionnels désirant se préparer efficacement aux cursus spécialisés et supérieurs (DEM, Pôles supérieurs, CNSM, Musikhochschulen...).
