 Carl Fortina , möglicherweise " der weltweit meist aufgezeichnete Akkordeonist " , war der erste Akkordeonspieler, der eine Karriere als Session-Musiker in der Hollywood-Filmindustrie machte und später von späten Frank Marocco gefolgt.Fortina spielte die Soundtracks in mehr als 550 Filme, darunter " Frühstück bei Tiffany ", " How the West Was Won ", " Love Me Tender " Paint Your Wagon " Star Trek ", " Der Pate " -Trilogie , etc. und schätzungsweise in 25.000 TV-Shows, darunter…. " Bonanza ". Als Nino Rota die Musik für 'The Godfather ' komponierte und Carl die Filmmusik spielten hörte, sagte er zu Carl "Sie müssen nicht mit den Händen zu spielen …aber mit dem Herzen". Als Sohn eines Akkordeonisten begann der junge Carl im Alter von 4 Jahren auf einem sehr kleinen 12 Bass-Instrument zu spielen. Zur großen Freude seines Vaters, war Carl schon nach kürzester Zeit in der Lage einfache Melodie nachzuspielen. Dank seines guten Gehörs und Unterricht mit dem bekannten Lehrer John Pezzolo in San Francisco, war Carls bereits im Alter von nur 5 Jahren bereit für seinen ersten öffentlichen Auftritt vor einem Publikum von 15.000, in einem Akkordeon-Festival Konzert in Kalifornien. Dies war der Beginn einer langen und sehr erfolgreichen Karriere als Konzert Akkordeonist. Nach zwei Jahren in der Armee, wo er in der 6. Infanterie als Tambourmajor diente, ließ Carl sich im Jahr 1953 in Los Angeles nieder, wo er für die nächsten 35 Jahre der sozusagen "bevorzugte " Akkordeonist in Hollywood war. 1973 bekam Carl ein Vertrag als Orchestermanager für viele Hollywood-Produktionen und im Jahr 1976 wurde er der Orchestermanager für Paramount Motion Pictures, eine Position, die er 30 Jahren inne hatte. Er hat mit vielen berühmten Namen wie Elvis Presley, Cher, Barbara Streisand, John Williams, Marvin Hamlisch, Henry Mancini (um nur einige zu nennen) gearbeitet . Carl Fortina wurde Jahr 2008 zum Ehrendirektor der Internationalen Akkordeon Las Vegas Convention benannt. Er war allseits beliebt, von Kollegen respektiert und als wahrer Gentleman angesehen . Er starb an einem Lungenemphysem am 30. Januar 2014 im Alter von 84 Jahren. |

  Die Registrierung für das 8. Akkordeon Art Festival & Contests und dem Orpheus -Preis 2014, Kritikerpreis für Produktionen (CD, DVD , MP3) des Jahres 2013 mit Akkordeon (auch Bandoneon, Harmonika , Diatonische ) bei dem der Band Leader oder Co Leader Italiener ist, ist nun online möglich.Der Orpheus ist eine Auszeichnung ähnlich der Film Oscars, die Produktionsgesellschaften für Akkordeon -Produktionen gewidmet . Die Wettbewerbe, das Festival und Auszeichnungen der Orpheus Preisverleihung findet in Roseto degli Abruzzi (TE, Italien) am 14. und 15. Juli statt. Der künstlerische Direktor wird der bekannte Musikjournalist Gerlando Gatto (Bild rechts) sein und der Veranstalter ist Renzo Ruggieri (Bild links). Veranstalter sind die Associazione Promozione Arte in Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadt Pineto (TE, Italien), Club Voglia D' Arte und private Sponsoren. Anmeldungen sind bis einschließlich 30.   Die jährliche Shand Morino Veranstaltung fand am Sonntag, 19. Januar im Windygates Institut, Fife, Schottland statt und wurde von einer großen Zahl Enthusiasten, darunter viele aktive Spieler, besucht.Bruce Lindsay Senior eröffnete die Nachmittagsveranstaltung mit einer kurzen Geschichte von Shand Morino (Bild rechts), einem britischen 3-reihigen, chromatisch-diatonischem Akkordeon als erstes von Hohner im Jahre 1939 für Jimmy Shand produziert und im weiteren dann für aufstrebende Spieler. Nach dem einführenden Vortrag gab es ein Konzert mit George Wilson, Davy Ross, Roy Magna, Robin Waitt, Ian Cruickshanks, Alex Houston, Arthur Wood, Sand McAllan, Archie Paterson, Davie Millar, Cody Roberts, Donal Ring, Scott Band, Roger Dobson, Andy Grieg, Bill Young, Ian Stewart, Gladys Wright - alle Shand Morino Solisten. Der Nachmittag endete im typisch schottischer Weise mit einem Stramash, wobei alle Spieler gemeinsam auf der Bühne einige der bekanntesten Melodien vortrugen. Viele Musiker waren anwesend, doch die Veranstaltung galt ausschließlich der Kult Shand Morino, bekannt geworden durch den späten großen Sir Jimmy Shand (Bild links) . |

 Keeping an instrument in tune can be a nightmare for any professional musician, what with travelling to gigs on bumpy roads or playing in chilly concert halls. But few instrumentalists can claim to have as much of a journey as Paul Chamberlain, the classical accordionist who has just come back from Italy where he had his accordion tuned in the town where it was made.Because of the complex nature of the accordion’s mechanisms, tuning Paul’s instrument requires a trip to Castelfidardo in Italy. When flying with the accordion, Paul has to purchase an additional seat as the instrument is just a little too large for normal hand-luggage requirements. Fortunately, tuning is only required every three or four years. The complex tuning procedure involves splitting the accordion at the bellows to gain access to the instrument’s reeds, of which there are over 900. Each reed must be checked and double-checked until the tuning is correct, which most professional tuners are able to do by ear. “Once all of the reeds have been tuned the accordion is re-assembled and a final check of all the reeds is done. I returned the following day to check everything and any minor corrections can be then done immediately,” says Paul. Saves a flight back to Italy! |

 The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending February 11th 2000 included an item about a documentary about the origins of the Texas-based Conjunto genre, also known as Tex-Mex‘Accordion Dreams’ Documentary – USA Contributed by Evy Ledesma Documentary filmmaker Hector Galan is currently producing a documentary intended for national PBS broadcast in the USA entitled ‘Accordion Dreams’. This documentary will trace the journey of the accordion from Germany to South Texas, where it became the driving force behind a unique American musical genre called Conjunto, a music with German and Mexican influences. This program looks at today’s young rebel accordionists who have expanded this musical style to the fringes of rock, metal, and pop, while paying homage to its pioneers. Galan has already produced ‘Songs of the Homeland’, a documentary featuring the accordion. |

With accordionist Victor Prieto for this gig are Jorge Roeder - bass, and Eric Doob – drums. Victor Prieto writes, “Hey guys, many of you are asking me, if I have changed my accordion. Yes! I am not longer using the black one, due to the weight, too heavy and also the registration of the left hand.
