 La Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), mantuvo una reunión con la prensa el pasado 25 de Febrero en su sede en Ikaalinen, para promover la iniciativa del World Accordion Day (día mundial del acordeón), que será el 6 de Mayo coincidiendo con el 180 aniversario del día en que fue patentado el acordeón en 1829.
Además de la prensa, ese mismo día, el Presidente de la CIA Kevin Friedrich y el Secretario General Kimmo Mattila tuvieron el honor de contar con unos invitados especiales para la ocasión, el alcalde de Ikaalinen, Tero Nissinen y el director del festival Sata-Hame Soi, Sirpa Sippola.
La conferencia también cubrió el importante trabajo que se esta realizando para el archivo de acordeón de la CIA (CIA Archive Center) en Ikaalinen, donde la CIA continua la recopilación de documentos históricos. El Internacional Museum Cooperation fue presentado bajo el amparo de la CIA, donde las instituciones pueden compartir información de la misma manera que estas preservan la historia del acordeón.
El presidente de la CIA mencionó el amplio trabajo que se esta llevando acabo en Finlandia, siendo el líder en cooperación, creando así un positivo y productivo ambiente de trabajo. Asociaciones como la Asociación Finlandesa de acordeón, el Instituto de Acordeón Finlandés, el Festival Sata-Häme Soi de acordeón y la Academia Sibelius (departamento de música clásica y folk) cooperan para promover todos los aspectos de la vida del acordeón, desde los instrumentos de dos filas de botones usados en el Folk, a los intérpretes de clásico, pasando por el encargo a compositores y editoriales para creación de nueva música y grabaciones de acordeón. |

 Durante la gala de apertura del Festival de Acordeón de Viena, el presidente del HVÖ Werner Weibert y el Vicepresidente de la CIA Dr. Herbert Scheibenreif galardonaron con el premio CIA award “Amigos Honoríficos del Acordeón” a Friedl Preisl, organizador del Festival de Acordeón de Viena por su gran contribución al acordeón.
El programa de este año (Vienna 2009 Program), incluye un amplio número de artistas austriacos e internacionales (Progy & Bess, Jugendstiltheater, etc..) apareciendo en los 17 escenarios diferentes que dispone el festival, siendo uno de los más importantes festivales de acordeón del mundo.

Los reconocidos acordeonistas de jazz Renzo Ruggieri y Mario D`Amario (alumno de Renzo y antiguo ganador de todos las más importantes competiciones internacionales (CIA, CMA, Castelfidardo, Ikaalinene, etc..) han llegado a un acuerdo con Ballone Burini (www.balloneburini.it) en Castelfidardo, para el uso exclusivo de sus instrumentos elaborados por los mejores artesanos.
Ambos han publicado recientemente un nuevo CD. Tracks del último CD grabado por Ruggieri “Terre”, pueden ser encontrados en internet www.musicforaccordion.com / inform / rruggieri / index.htm. Todos los fans de Renzo tendrán la oportunidad de saludarle en la feria de Frankfurt , del 1 al 4 de Abril mostrando la nueva “Eolina”, una melódica elaborada por Ballone Burini.

Bajo la frase “Play the Keys-You are in the band”, se encuentra una iniciativa que demanda niños y jóvenes con edad no superior a 21 años a “medir” su talento en el uso de teclados, sintetizadores, acordeones digitales, contra otros instrumentistas en un original concurso. La competición da comienzo rondas de calificación en Mannheim, Munich, Hamburgo, Colonia y Berlín, siendo el concurso dividido en categorías por edades. Quien pase a la fase preliminar y semifinal, participará en la final que se celebrará en la academia de Pop de Mannheim, concursando por importantes premios y el título “The Kid of Keys 2009”.
Por primera vez, los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de tocar un acordeón digital (Roland) durante toda la competición sin coste alguno. El periodo de inscripción finaliza el 19 de Abril.

Accordion Courses with Frédéric Deschamps - Franceby Harley Jones

 In February and March accordion courses by Frédéric Deschamps were taking place at La Selle sur le Bied, a small rural community 1 hour from Paris. The weeks were similar but not necessarily in terms of attendance.
Some weeks (photo 1) were reserved for senior citizens from all walks of life: a school of music and accordion teacher in the person of John Paul Delmas (South West), Yves Gourio oceanographer, Marie-Claire Minon the Math teacher, actress Chloe Roy, Christine Shimdt German opera singer, and brothers Gritti (Seb and Ced) and others preparing their skills for the next Coupe Mondiale and Trophée Mondial qualifications to be held in May and July.
The course trains through the discoveries of body tensions - eyebrows, neck, head movements and tension of the mouth, fingers, arms, etc. with lots of musical interaction. Everything is a small world shared during a week full of emotion both human and musical.
Other special weeks were reserved for young prodigies preparing towards the international deadlines in the form of formula VIP reduced to increase efficiency internships.
The next Courses will be teaching between 12 and 25 April.

DVD/Book: ‘The Irish Accordion Tutor’, Connecticut - USAby Rob Howard

 All Ireland Champion diatonic button accordionist and teacher Damien Connolly, now based in Connecticut, has produced a combined tutor book and DVD for the B/C accordion, aimed at intermediate to advanced players.
The teaching method employs colour coding for bellows work and detailed fingering for each tune - even for recommended grace notes, along with the benefits of the face-to-face learning characteristic of the oral tradition.
The book provides detailed descriptions and explanations of how to perform virtually every operation on the Irish B/C accordion - bellows control, grace notes, triplets, rolls, basses, etc. - along with notation for 29 reels, jigs, and polkas, plus bass work. The DVD contains close-up views of Damien's hand as he plays slowly, once through every tune offered in the manual.

Recently Russian bayan virtuoso Aidar Gaynullin was accompanied by the Georgian Chamber Orchestra (Ariel Zuckermann, cond.) in the concert hall of Ingolstadt, Bavaria.
His program included pieces by Gubaidulina’s ‘Seven Words’ (Tatjana Vassilieva played the cello part), and Piazzolla’s concerto ‘Aconcagua’ and ‘Libertango’ as encores. |

North Texas Irish Festival, Dallas – USAby Rob Howard

The North Texas Irish Festival takes place in Dallas from March 6th to 8th, featuring music, song, story telling and Irish dancing on 6 stages. This festival usually attracts over 40,000 visitors.
There are numerous performers and bands featuring accordions, melodeons and other free reed instruments. These include the legendary Irish-Canadian band The Irish Rovers, diatonic accordionist Johnny B. Connolly, Scottish accordionist Mark Kenneth, and the intriguingly titled quintet Four Men and a Dog. Mark Kenneth, performing with his celtic rock band and in a duo, will be demonstrating the use of the Roland Virtual Accordion in Celtic music

 The NAO is delighted to announce, that as part of celebrating its 60th anniversary, the NAO will be co-hosting the Roland UK National Finals in conjunction with Roland UK during the weekend of the NAO UK Championships.
This event will be part of the 3rd Roland V Festival, an international competition open to both Junior and Senior players, culminating in the International Finals to be held in Rome on the 20th and 21st November 2009.
The Roland UK National Final will be held on Friday 24th April at the Metropole Hotel, Blackpool. In attendance will be Marco Cinaglia from Roland Europe as well international star Mario D’Amario from Italy.

On Wednesday March 11th, 8pm, Janusz Zukowski performs in concert at Stockport Accordion Club. The venue is Woodley Methodist Church, Chapel Street/A560 Hyde Road, Woodley, Stockport, Cheshire SK6 1ND (J25/M60).
Janusz Zukowski was NAO All Britain Virtuoso Champion in 1968 and 1969, and a contestant in the 1969 CIA Coupe Mondiale held in New York (placed 8th).
