Tan Jia Liang (China) has won the VIII Primus Ikalinen Competition in an exciting musical run-off with 7 other superb contestants: Russia: Utkina Ekaterina, France: Elsa Gourdy, Moldavia: Dorin Grama, Kazacstan: Shamgar Tolkynhan, Germany: Radu Laxgang, Lithuania: Martinas Levickis and Finland Henriikka Santamaa (selected the day before from the contest of National Selection). Results: 1st place: Tan jia Liang (China) € 3,000 prize 2nd place: Dorin Grama (Moldavia) € 2,000 prize 3rd place: Radu Laxgang (Germany) € 1,000 prize The Primus Ikaalinen competition was co-hosted by Mari Turunen and Kimmo Mattila. Mirco Patarini has just completed a very successful and popular tour of Brazil which included the cities of: Sao Paulo, Sorocaba, Paso Fundo, Porto Alegre, Carazinho and Belo Horizonte. The tour included concerts, promotional events, master classes and TV interviews. Mirco Patarini has been touring Brazil annually since 1996 and has built up a strong personal following for his concerts, workshops, and seminars as well as promoting the Scandalli accordion brand. Accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen will give the USA Premiere of "Accordion Wrestling" in his New York appearance with Helsinki Nelson on August 3rd and 4th, 2012 at 8:30 PM at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors concert on the Damrosch Park Stage. The stage is next to the Metropolitan Opera House. "Accordion Wrestling" was originally created for the Turkish Cultural Capital of Europe Program in 2011. The event is sponsored by SofTrek Corporation and made possible in part by the Consulate General of Finland, The Foundation for the Promotion of Finnish Music (LUSES), The Finnish Performing Music Promotion Centre ESEK, Finn Spark, Inc. and Finlandia Foundation National. Kimmo Pohjonen, a Finnish accordionist, is a highly respected "accordion adventurer" who is composing, playing and performing accordion music in revolutionary new ways. He has recorded and performed with many projects and groups worldwide plus has composed music for films, dance and theatre. |

On July 7th, accordionist Marco Lo Russo will be a jury member at the 13th Torre D'Oro in Lanuvio, a competition for singers that will be broadcast live on Radio Gamma Stereo Uno. Recently the Marco Lo Russo Music Center has been actively engaged with work in many schools in the Latina province, providing support for children learning musical instruments. The Marco Lo Russo Music Center is now attached to the network of music academies set up by Roland, equipped with an innovative musical laboratory where students can make use of the latest digital and acoustic instruments and learning aids. The Morley Accordion Orchestra (Musical Director Ian Watson) perform in concert on Saturday July 7th, 7.30pm, at the Lost Theatre, 208 Wandsworth Rd, Vauxhall, London SW8 2JU. The award winning Morley Accordion Orchestra is performing at the Lost Theatre for the first time. The orchestra consists of 25 accordionists plus 2 West End percussionists, and together, they present a program of fun, diverse and surprising music. Paulo Jorge Ferreira leads a master class, July 16th to 21st, at the Conservatório Caldas da Rainha, Rua Arnaldo Fortes, nº32, 2500-131 Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. The tuition is part of Curso de Verão 2012, an annual series of workshops for various instruments that includes accordion. Paulo Jorge Ferreira (born in Lisbon, 1966) studied with Professor José António Sousa. He has peformed recitals and chamber music concerts in Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Mexico, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Macau. He has also composed music for solo instruments, chamber groups and orchestras. This non-profit making event is organized by Silvio Previale (jr), and carries the name of Silvio B. Maeestra Previale, who died in 2007, accordion teacher and father of the director of the event.
