Two Videos, Frankfurt Musikmesse 2019 – Germany

Two more videos from the Frankfurt Musikmesse 2019

Video 1: MusicTech, celebrating their 15th anniversary had Gennaro Ruffolo (Italy) and Paolo Miles (Italy) demonstrating the MusicTech products.

Video 2: Strolling around at the Musikmesse, I happened to meet Aleksandar Nikolic (Serbia), well known teacher, bandoneonist and leader of the famous Beltango Quintet, and so I asked him to perform a piece on the Scandalli Bandoneon which he had an important part in developing.

With the guitarist Bogdan Pejic from the Beltango Quintet, an immediate duo was formed, a guitar was borrowed from a nearby guitar display, and we had "a performance". Enjoy!!

Picture below: Gennaro Ruffolo (Italy) and Paolo Miles (Italy) pictured with their MusicTech Posters.

European Premieres of Chinese works in Vienna – Austria

Marija Antunovic, Bogdan Laketic, Grzegorz Stopa, Na Song
Two European premieres of Chinese works were held at MUK in Vienna recently as part of the visit by Changjun Xu (Rector of the Tianjin Conservatory of Music and the Tianjin Juilliard School). The Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna (MUK) organized the concert of ancient and contemporary music in his honor.

Full report in German and English at: 2019cn-comp.pdf

The accordion class of Prof. Grzegorz Stopa performed the contemporary music. Highlights of this concert were undoubtedly the two European premieres of Chinese accordion music.

The first premiere was written by prominent Chinese composer Qigang Chen, who composed his first version of "Instants d'un Opéra de Pékin Ouverture Symphonique" (Moments of a Peking Opera) in 2000. In 2014, the premiere of the symphonic version was commissioned by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra to open the Shanghai Symphony Hall.

In collaboration with composers, last year the latest version of the work for four accordions (adaptation Na Song) was created in November 2018 at the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing with Na Song, Grzegorz Stopa and his alumni was premiered as part of a concert project of the Conservatory of Music in Tianjin. Marija Antunovic, Bogdan Laketic, Na Song, Grzegorz Stopa (picture above) were the artists of this 2019 performance.

The sheet music edition of the work in the version for four accordions will be published by the Parisian publisher Gérard Billaudot Editeur in the near future.

The second premiere was a new version of “Phoenix” for accordion, percussion and string orchestra written by Changjun Xu. The composer intended to incorporate the rhythmic motifs of Beijing opera into Western compositional techniques to establish the dialogue between monologue and ensemble, the dialogue between West and East, and the dialogue between traditional Chinese folklore and contemporary compositional techniques.

The MUK ensemble was conducted by Roberto Secilla Quiros (picture below, left), and accordionist Djordje Davidovic (below right) was the outstanding soloist of the evening.
