Brandon McPhee’s new CD 'Ten Years On', Scotland – UK

Ten Years On CD coverWill Starr LP coverAccordionist Brandon McPhee has released a new CD, 'Ten Years On', which pays homage to the music of two of his predecessors, Will Starr and Sir Jimmy Shand. The recordings were made using the unique 4-row Shand Morino, the last accordion owned by Will Starr (1922-76) and featured on his albums (picture right) made in the late 1960s and early 70s.

This instrument has a bright musette tuning, and for many years has been part of the large Ken Hopkins accordion collection in Northern Ireland. Brandon, an All Scotland Champion, brings this special instrument back to life on this excellent CD, which also marks ten years since his very first recording, ‘A Starr is Born’, when aged just 11 and just a few months after taking up the accordion.

Tracks include: Athol Highlanders/Rakes of Kildare/Teviot Brig/Ness Bothan; Loch Ruan/Leslie Angus/Thomas Sanders; Memories of Willie Snaith of Hexham; Whistling Rufus; Glens of Angus/Bonnie Gallowa/Highland Cradle Song/My Mother; Dashing White Sergeant/The Mason's Apron/CTS Express/Reconciliation; Shetland Two Step; Jacqueline Waltz; Scotland The Brave/ Mharis Wedding/Thistle of Scotland; The Bluebell Polka; Dawn’s Waltz/Frank & Moira Stephens Ruby Wedding; Under The Double Eagle; Fraser and Kevin McGlynn/John Macmillan of Barra; Home On The Range; Flying Scotsman
