BREAKING NEWS: Die Akkordeonwelt trauert um Frank Maroccoby Accordions Worldwide |
 Frank Marocco ( 02.01.1931 - 03.03.2012 ) verstarb am 3. März in Los Angeles im Alter von 81. Er wurde in Joliet, Illinois USA am 2. Januar 1931 geboren und wuchs in Waukegan, einem Vorort von Chicago auf. Studierte 9 Jahren lang klassisches Akkordeon in der Region von Chicago und begann mit dem Akkordeonspielen bereits im zarten Alter von 7 Jahren, als seine Eltern ihn an einem Probekurs teilnehmen liessen. Sein erster Lehrer war George Stefano, der starken Einfluss auf ihn hatte und mit welchem er neun Jahre lang studierte. Frank wurde hauptsächlich Klassik geschult, aber dazu ermutigt auch andere Bereiche zu erkunden. Er lernte Klarinette, Klavier, Harmonielehre und Theorie. Er begann seine berufliche Laufbahn mit 18 in Clubs und Hotels und tourte mit einem Trio durch ganz Amerika. Frank gewann den ersten Platz in einem nationalen Musikwettbewerb und spielte mit dem Chicago Pops Orchestra in Chicago Soldier Field. Danach gründete er ein Trio und auf der Tour durch die Staaten des Mittleren Westens traf er seine spätere Frau Anne in Indiana. Sie beschlossen, in der Gegend von Los Angeles zu leben, wo sie ihre drei Töchter großgezogen haben. Er wurde zu einem der meist aufgenommenen Akkordeonisten der Welt. John Williams, Quincy Jones, Elmer Bernstein, Michele Le Grand, Henry Mancini und Dutzende andere; Er wurde berühmt für seine Aufnahmen von Filmmusik mit einer langen Liste von Komponisten. Er musiziert sich auch mit einigen der besten Jazz-Musiker in Amerika und Europa wie Ray Brown, Jeff Hamilton, Zoot Sims, Joe Pass, Joey Baron, Herb Ellis, Ray Pizzi, Ivor Malherbe, Massimo Tagliata, Conti Candoli, Philippe Cornaz, John Pattatucchi, Mats Vinding, Mogens Andersen Baekgaard, Marcel Papaux, Angela Hagenbach, Ron Feuer, Richard Galliano, Peter Erskine, Klaus Paier, Renzo Ruggieri, Pete Christlieb, Larry Koonse, Simone Zanchini, Andy Simpkins, Bob Shepard, Frank Rossolino, Jim Hall, Abraham war Dan Higgin, Grant Geissman, Luis Conte und Stix Hooper, um nur ein paar davon zu nennen. Seine große Leidenschaft galt der Jazzmusik und diese spielte er für ein großes Publikum auf der ganzen Welt. Marokko war ein bescheidener Mensch, auch wenn er in der gesamten Musikwelt gefeiert wurde. Er war großzügig mit seiner Zeit und Talent. Frank sagte: "Obwohl ich mir ein bequemes Leben geschaffen habe, war mein primäres Ziel nie, eine Menge Geld zu machen, sondern das Beste zu geben, dass mir möglich war. Nur Integrität, harte Arbeit und Hingabe machen dies möglich – man muss Respekt haben, für was man tut“. Frank hat viele Menschen durch seine positive Art berührt.  Am 23. Februar während des 10. Internationalen Festivals "Bajan Vivat!", gab es das Konzert "Piano Akkordeon Karneval" auf der Bühne der Samara Philharmonie Halle. Führende Akkordeonisten aus Russland waren dabei, darunter Alexandr Poeluev (Rostow am Don), Sergey Osokin (Moskau), Alexej Shalygin (Rostow am Don) und Alexandr Tubolets (Samara) mit seinem Ensemble.Das Programm von Alexander Poeluev enthielt Transkriptionen von klassischen Stücken und eigenen Kompositionen speziell für Akkordeon geschrieben. Bluesige Balladen und Jazz-Kompositionen wurden von Sergey Osokin aufgeführt. Russische, ukrainische und neapolitanische Volkslieder und Walzer, Foxtrott und Tango gab es von Alexandr Tubolets und seinem Ensemble. Alexei Shalygin begeisterte das Publikum mit Tanz-Arrangements, Melodien und Liedern in einem up-to-date Techno-Pop-Stil. Am Ende des Programms spielten alle Musiker gemeinsam für ein begeistertes Publikum. Wie immer war das Konzert unter der künstlerischen Leitung des Festival Gründers "Vivat, Bayan!", dem beliebten Akkordeonisten Sergej Voytenko. Dieses Konzert war ein besonderes Geschenk für den "Tag der Verteidiger des Vaterlandes". Das Akkordeon und die Mundharmonika waren die treuen Begleiter der Kämpfer während des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges. Sie halfen der Moral, der Trauer über die Gefallenen und gab Grund zur Hoffnung. | "The Big Squeeze" findet am Freitag, 6. April in der Pick-Staiger Konzert Halle, , Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois statt. Ein Tag mit Vorführungen / Vorträgen und Konzerten mit erstklassigen internationalen Akkordeonisten, verschiedenster Stilrichtungen. Um 16.30 steht eine "Akkordeon-Demonstration mit Vortrag 'von Julien Labro (Jazz und südamerikanischen), Alexander Sevastian (klassisch), Jimmy Keane (Irish Traditional) und Dwayne Dopsie (Zydeco) am Programm, die das Publikum durch eine Vielzahl von Genres in eine bunte Welt der Musik entführen werden. Das Konzert um 19.30 Uhr ist mit Julien Labro (Frankreich) mit Jazz zusammen mit dem Altsaxophonisten Jon Irabagon und Tango (am Bandoneon) unterstützt durch die Spektral String Quartet; Jimmy Keane von Chicago präsentiert irische Musik mit dem Gitarristen Dennis Cahill; und Alexander Sevastian (Weißrussland) klassische Musik.  Die Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) hat ihre 127. Generalversammlung der Delegierten in Miesbach, Deutschland 23-26 Februar abgehalten, die von einem der CIA-Gründungsmitglieder, den Deutschen Harmonika-Verband V (DHV) veranstaltet wurde.Der Kongress fand in Verbindung mit dem DHV Deutschen Zentrale für Akkordeon Musikpreis statt, der Qualifikationen in der Region Bayern, die erfolgreiche Kandidaten zur Zeilnahme an den Deutschen Meisterschaften berechtigen. Die Veranstaltung begann mit einem Champagner-Welcome und einem Konzert des DHV am Bauerntheater in der nahe gelegenen Stadt Schliersee mit dem Landesjugend-Akkordeonorchester Bayern unter der Leitung von Stefan Tops und Hedy Stark-Fussnegger. CIA-Awards: Jedes Jahr vergibt die CIA bis zu zwei CIA Merit Awards und vier „geehrte Akkordeon- Freunde Awards“. Nur zwei Anträge wurden in diesem Jahr eingereicht und wurden wie folgt vergeben: CIA Merit Award: Matti Rantanen (Finnland) CIA geehrter Akkordeon Freund Award: Ken Farran (United Kingdom) Neue Technologie: Dieses Jahr hat die CIA die Beseitigung von Papier Partituren für die Jury-Mitglieder beschlossen. Auch für die Kategorie, Master Coupe Mondiale, werden die Bewerber gebeten, eine Acrobat pdf-Datei von ihrer Musik zu präsentieren, die von der Jury auf iPads oder ähnlichen Geräten angesehen werden können. Dieses neue Format erleichtert die Pratiken für alle Kandidaten, die somit ihre Musik nicht bringen müssen und es ermöglicht der Jury Zugriff auf die Musik im digitalen Format zur Ansicht zu haben. Es ist somit umweltfreundlicher, einfacher und vereinfacht für die Teilnehmer eine bessere Kontrolle über ihre Musik zu haben. | The Accordions Worldwide news for February 27th 1998 included a report that Owen Murray had performed at a concert in Glasgow despite having injured his left arm, demonstrating that “The show must go on”! Owen Murray is Professor of Accordion at the Royal Academy of Music, London. OWEN MURRAY PLAYS INJURED – SCOTLAND The Herald, UK recently featured an article on Owen Murray's accordion performance at Hutchesons' Hall, Glasgow. Owen Murray is recognised as the leading figure in establishing the accordion as a legitimate classical instrument in the UK, both through his virtuoso performances and in his unique teaching position at the Royal Academy of Music. A heavily bandaged left hand necessitated by an elbow injury led him to change his scheduled programme, omitting Bach and Mozart in favour of two brief sonatas by Scarlatti, and a suite of miniatures from Russia which had a distinct folk flavour. Murray's command of the accordion was consistently impressive. He gave the same recital at Jordanhill Campus the next day, followed by a public workshop and demonstration. |

Full report: Dargaville2011 Housed at the Dargaville Museum (New Zealand) is the historical accordion display titled 'Accordion Gems - A Master Collection of Accordions Through Time'. Kevin Friedrich is curating a further display at the Dargaville Museum to celebrate 40 years of the New Zealand Accordion Association (NZAA). For the 5th time, the concert ‘Music with Kevin Friedrich and Friends’ will be held at the Lighthouse Function Center. The NZAA is running a bus from Auckland to the opening of the display and to the concert. Kevin Friedrich, Lionel Reekie and Maurice Jones will be performing plus well known Dargaville performers. This is also the 50th Birthday year for Kevin who will be receiving a Presentation from the NZAA of his Lifetime Achievement Award. The name of the display, 'Wakefield to Masefield' came from an excerpt from The History of the Accordion in New Zealand by Wallace Liggett. A reference does exist in the journal of Edward Jerningham Wakefield, one of the earliest English colonists, and his entry from the 24th of September 1839 contains an amusing reference to his use of an accordion. "One named Te Kaera diverted us much by....bringing a long pointed spear within inches of our bodies: then retreating with a roar of laughter every time he saw us shrink from the thrust............I repaid him his surprise the first day that he came on board. I had got an accordion under a large cloak, and kept time to its notes with my mouth, so as to deceive him and twenty other natives into the idea that I was uttering the various sounds.” This is the first documented playing of an accordion in New Zealand and the Museum Display takes its name from the Wakefield performance to Grayson Masefield winning the Coupe Mondiale World Championship in New Zealand in 2009. |

 Accordionist Milos Miliojevic will be doing a series of concerts in March across London for an organization called ‘Classics with my Baby’. He will be performing solo and with violinist Philippa Mo and pianist MiaoMiao Yu, and the music includes pieces by Sarasate, Albeniz,Piazzolla, Bach and Paganini.
