Emergency Accordion Stoop Extravaganza in Brooklyn - USAby Christine Johnstone |
Video above shows Paul Stein playing and talking about his venture. Accordionist Paul Stein (pictured below) was in Covid-19 lockdown and wanted to do something to cheer up his neighbourhood. So….he took out his accordion and played. Each evening at 7pm he plays on the steps leading up to his building (his stoop) and he says “The natural acoustics of the narrow street bring the music to my neighbours.” To his surprise The Associated Press (one of the largest news-gathering organizations in the world), sent two top photojournalists to cover his accordion concerts. The concerts help to raise people’s spirits, encourage staying at home and social distancing, and applaud the healthcare and other essential workers who are risking their lives to protect and support the rest of us. The AP story was published this week by over 200 news outlets throughout the United States, from large national media like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today to local newspapers and TV stations in small towns and cities in all parts of the country. The story was also picked up by news outlets in Australia, Canada, Croatia, England, Lebanon, Roumania, South Africa, Taiwan, and United Arab Emirates. |
Cancelled: ATG 80th Anniversary Festival in Los Angeles - USAby Heather Masefield Secretary, New Zealand Accordion Association |
Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG) President Joseph Natoli announced this week: “I regretfully must communicate a message to you that I had hoped would not become a reality. However in spite of intense planning and never giving up hope that our spectacular 80th Anniversary Festival would still take place in Los Angeles this year from August 5th to 9th, the unfortunate downward pressures from around the globe are mandating that we cancel this wonderful event. With the decidedly international nature of our Festival this year, there are many groups and attendees who had planned to come and participate, but simply cannot for a variety of reasons because of Covid-19..... which collectively will make it impossible for our Los Angeles Festival to occur as anticipated. Therefore, in spite of great sadness in our hearts over this cancellation, there is an equal amount of hope and positive anticipation that you will join us next year at the Hyatt in the Lisle, Illinois area again for what we hope to be a recovery from this unfortunate year of the virus; with renewed best wishes for your safety, wellness, and bringing all our musical lives back to normal from July 20th to 25th, 2021. Please plan on being with us to make this a very special celebration of our collective recoveries and victory over the events of 2020”. |
