 Roman Jbanov (from the Paris Moscou Duo) will perform at "Les Estivales de Saint-George" Cultural Festival in SaintGeorges Mairie, France on August 20th, 2022.This is the first cultural festival organised by the Commune of Saint-Georges and includes six free concerts from July 9th to August 20th, 2022, at Parc Hom, with the support of Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Puy-de-Dôme, le Département. Concerts will include a Tribute to Edith Piaf, various bands, and finishing with the Closing Concert by classical accordionist Roman Jbanov at the Church of Saint George. View poster for details. |

| Rock, Pop & Jazz Accordion Orchestra Workshops will be held October and November 2022, in South Hesse (Frankfurt/Main) and in North Hesse (Waldeck/Edersee), Germany. Following a two year break due to Covid-19, the Landes-Akkordeon-Bigband Hessen, is once again starting its lively “A-Teens” workshop for participants aged from 16 to 26, who will have the opportunity to play current hits for accordion orchestra with professional musicians.  The Norwegian Accordion Championships began on June 30th and will run until July 3rd at the Storefjell Resort Hotel in Golsfjellet, Norway, organised by the Norske Trekkspilleres Landsforbund –NTL (Norwegian Accordion Players' National Association).The event will include competitions, concerts, good food and socializing in beautiful surroundings for both accordionists and enthusiasts. Competition classes include Chamber, Orchestral, Variety and Entertainment music categories. Concerts will be given by Radu Ratoi (Moldova – picture left), Happy Skvett (picture below), Sigmunds, and the Eirik Rottem Eide Trio which includes accordionist Kai Roger Magnetun.  Well-known conductor & outstanding composer, former DHV President and 1954 Coupe Mondiale winner, Fritz Dobler celebrated his 95th birthday on June 24th, 2022 in Trossingen, Germany.The DHV (German Harmonica Association) organized a ceremony for the jubilee. The quartet of the Hohner Conservatory performed under the direction of CIA Music Committee Member Andreas Nebl (see picture below). |

 A new Accordion Association is being planned for young adult accordionists, aged from 18 to 29.The National Accordion Association (NAA) is looking for young adult accordionists who are “Leaping into their Future” while continuing to play the accordion. Regardless of their current position in this exciting new life, the NAA wants to support members of this group as long they continue to play the accordion along life’s journey. All of us know that this age group can use the accordion as a social instrument, a hobby, part-time income, and/or to develop a musical-related career. Will this “Young Adult Accordionists Association” be successful? The Seatons need facts before this question can be answered. As founders of this idea, college Professors, Drs. Norman Seaton and Sharon Seaton are asking all known accordionists to encourage those in this age group to complete the “Young Adult Needs Analysis Survey” that will close on August 1st, 2022. The Seatons will then make the “go or no go” decision. Meanwhile, Sharon Seaton will be researching funding to support this group of young adults as they continue playing the accordion. | The final concert of Nikola Jelic was held at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria last week. Nikola Jelic has been studying the accordion at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz since 2011 with Alfred Melichar, where he completed his artistic bachelor’s degree in 2017 and his pedagogical bachelor’s degree in 2020. He is a multiple prize winner of national and international accordion competitions. Since 2013 he has been collaborating with Austrian contemporary composers, whose works he premiered. He has been involved in numerous projects initiated by the Linz State Music Theater, the Anton Bruckner Private University, the Music School of the City of Linz, the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian associations. Since 2018 he has been a member of various ensembles - Greek trio "Orpheus", tango quintet "El Cabeceo", world music trio "Art Hoc". In 2020 he joined the band "The Folks" and band "Musicarina" in 2022. He put the program of his diploma examination under the motto "Akkordeon da Kamera" and included works by Toshio Hosokawa (In the depth of time for clarinet and accordion), Alexander Wagendristel (Into The Headwind for accordion trio), Fritz Keil (mélange à trois for Accordion Trio), Odysseas Manidakis (Dyonisus for accordion, bouzouki, guitar and percussion), Erich Karl Mayr (La Mano derecha del Diablo (Art Hoc) Apropos (Art Hoc)), Francisco Canaro (Corazon de Oro (El Cabeceo Tango Quintet)), Angel D'Agostino (Cafe Dominguez (El Cabeceo Tango Quintet)), Anibal Troilo (Quejas de Bandoneon (El Cabeceo Tango Quintet)). | Picture above: Paul Schuberth & Tomáš Novák The final concert of Paul Schuberth was held at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria last week. Paul Schuberth studied the accordion with Alfred Melichar at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz from 2007 as part of a pre-study/extraordinary course, where he completed his bachelor's degree in concert and pedagogy with a focus on jazz theory/composition with Christoph Cech in 2018. In his youth, Paul Schuberth successfully took part in many national and international accordion competitions. In addition to classical studies, his interest in improvised music and composition awoke early on. The following should be mentioned as important initiators and indirect teachers during recordings or through playing together: Otto Lechner, Bratko Bibic, Guy Klucevsek, Maria Kalaniemi, Lars Hollmer, Jean-Louis Matinier, Luciano Biondini, Andrej Prozorov, Thomas Gansch, Jelena Popržan, Hannes Wader, Bertl Mutters, and Bob Dylan. Paul Schuberth chose “Background Music” as the motto for his final concert. The program included original compositions by Schuberth (sonata for violin and accordion, asylum for the homeless, the song of the simple man), works by Bertl Mutter (DÜDT [tilt] for accordion duo), Flora Geißelbrecht (The Grandmother tells the story), Maurice Ravel (from: Le Tombeau de Couperin, Menuet) and Jean Wiener (From: Le Chantefleurs, La Rose).  Gorka Hermosa (accordion) has released his new CD "Flamenco Etxea 2" with flamenco guitarist José Luis Montón. Last week the duo presented the CD with three concerts at the Miengo Cultura Festival in Bilbao at the Auditorium of the Arriaga Conservatory and at the Basque Network of Theaters in Elorrio, Spain. These concerts also featured flamenco dancer Cristina Benitez (see picture above). In addition, this week Gorka was interviewed on Basque TV`s (ETB1) afternoon program where he spoke about the CD. |

| The 6th Saxon Accordion Orchestra and Ensemble Meeting will be held at the Lingnerschloss (Lingner Castle) in Dresden, Germany on July 3rd, 2022, organised by the Dresdner Akkordeonorchester e.V.  Accordionist Ian Lowthian (picture left) will run a Summer Mixed Instruments Weekend in the village hall in Ettrickbridge, in the heart of the beautiful Scottish Borders on July 9th and 10th, 2022.Ian will send out the music before-hand, then attendees rehearse on the Saturday and Sunday morning to prepare for a concert on the Sunday afternoon from 2pm.
