Viennese Accordion Chamber Ensemble Jubilee Concert – Austriaby Dr Herbert Scheibenreif Manager of Friedrich Lips Productions |
The Wiener Akkordeon-Kammer-Ensemble (WAKE - Viennese Accordion Chamber Ensemble), directed by Werner Weibert (picture left), celebrated its annual festival concert, this time being the WAKE 50th Anniversary concert at the well attended concert hall of Perchtoldsdorf Castle, near Vienna, on Friday, November 17th. Their program included works by Janácek, Mozart, Würthner, Schubert, Bernstein, Gershwin, Piazzolla, Strauß and Miller & Jackson. As usual, the concert was closed with some famous songs like „That cat is high“, „New York“ and „Gern hobn“, very popular and well acclaimed by the public. Werner Weibert as artistic and organizational director of WAKE was awarded the badge of honor in gold by the Mayor of Perchtoldsdorf, Sylvia Zobek was presented a silver badge and all the other members of the ensemble, Margarete Gebauer, Elisabeth Weibert, Walter Dietz, Christian Höller, Günther Zobek and Anton Barinka were presented a bronze badge. Founded in 1967 by Professor Walter Maurer (1975-2006 Secretary General of the CIA Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes), the ensemble has virtually remained together ever since. One of the secrets of this lasting success is consistency. This really unique event presented also the opportunity to meet again former members of WAKE in order to enjoy music together on stage.
