 We are sad to report the passing of Prof. Walter Maurer, the long time Secretary General of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) from 1975 - 2006. Prof. Walter Maurer had a long life of musical achievements and these can be seen on the web page: Walter Maurer. Also, the Celebrity Interview in 1999 at: MaurerInterview Prof. Walter Maurer passed away on December 1st, 2017. Condolences to his family!  Das Wiener Akkordeon-Kammer-Ensemble (WAKE), unter der Leitung von Werner Weibert (Bild links), feierte am Freitag, den 17. November sein jährliches Festkonzert, diesmal zum 50-jährigen Jubiläum des WAKE im gut besuchten Konzertsaal des Perchtoldsdorfer Schlosses Wien.Ihr Programm umfasste Werke von Janácek, Mozart, Würthner, Schubert, Bernstein, Gershwin, Piazzolla, Strauß und Miller & Jackson. Wie üblich wurde das Konzert mit einigen berühmten Songs wie "That cat is high", "New York" und "Gern hobn", beendet. Werner Weibert als künstlerischer und organisatorischer Leiter des WAKE wurde von der Oberbürgermeisterin von Perchtoldsdorf mit dem Ehrenzeichen in Gold ausgezeichnet, Sylvia Zobek erhielt eine silberne Plakette und alle anderen Mitglieder des Ensembles, Margarete Gebauer, Elisabeth Weibert, Walter Dietz, Christian Höller , Günther Zobek und Anton Barinka wurde Bronze präsentiert. 1967 von Professor Walter Maurer (1975-2006 Generalsekretär der CIA Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes) gegründet, ist das Ensemble seither praktisch zusammen geblieben. Eines der Geheimnisse dieses dauerhaften Erfolges ist Beständigkeit. Diese wirklich einzigartige Veranstaltung bot auch die Gelegenheit, ehemalige Mitglieder von WAKE wieder zu treffen, um gemeinsam Musik auf der Bühne zu genießen. Bild unten mit Chorgesang Frieden. |

 Die Internationalen Akkordeonwettbewerbe XXV "Arrasate Hiria" 2017 finden vom 8. bis 10. Dezember 2017 in Arrasate-Mondragón (Baskenland) statt. Die Organisatoren "HAUSPOZ" Euskal Herriko Akordeoi Elkartea, das Rathaus von Arrasate und die Bezirksverwaltung Gipuzkoa heissen Solisten jeden Alters und jeder Nationalität herzlich willkommen.Regeln und Vorschriften unter: 2017Arrasate Neben dem internationalen Wettbewerb gibt es viele nationale Klassen und ein Festival mit Akkordeonisten aus einer Reihe von Ländern. 2. Internationaler Akkordeon Wettbewerb von Palmi & Masterclass mit Grayson Masefieldby Harley Jones |

| Der zweite internationale Akkordeonwettbewerb von Palmi, Italien, wurde von Rocco Cannizzaro und Natalino Scaffidi am 17. und 19. November veranstaltet. Diese Veranstaltung wurde aus der Leidenschaft und Hingabe zum Akkordeon dieser beiden Herren ins Leben gerufen. In diesen zwei Jahren wurden zwei Meisterkurse mit international renommierten Lehrern, Aleksander Hrustevich (2016) und Grayson Masefield (2017), abgehalten. Die diesjährige Masterclasse mit Grayson Masefield fand an zwei Tagen statt, mit Programmen vom Barock-Repertoire bis zur Gegenwart. Die teilnehmenden Studenten spielten auf verschiedenen freien Bass-Systemen (chromatisch & quint), um den Schülern zu zeigen, dass die Akkordeonwelt vielfältig und voller Reize ist . Nach dem Meisterkurs gab es eine Aufführung des Bayan Trios mit klassischen und modernen Werken, darunter Kompositionen von Motion Trio, Hermosa & Piazzolla. Der Wettbewerb fand am Sonntag in der Casa della Cultura Leonida Repaci (Kulturhaus von Palmi) statt und bestand aus Virtuosen und Klassikern für alle Altersklassen und einer diatonischen und Ensemble-Kategorie. Die Jury bestand aus Dario Pugliese, Dina Tullio Dinatone, Adolfo Zagari, Pietro Pardino, Antonio Francesco Sapia und Grayson Masefield Zusätzlich zu den traditionellen Preisen gab es ein Stipendium, das in jeder Saison des Wettbewerbs vergeben wurde, in diesem Jahr wurde es Paolo Esposito verliehen Die Veranstaltung war ein großer Erfolg und mit über 20 Studenten, die an den Meisterkursen und über 55 Wettbewerbs-Akkordeonisten aus vielen Akkordeonschulen, teilnahmen. |

| Dwayne Dopsie has been nominated for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. Dwayne, born March 3, 1979 in Lafayette, Louisiana, was the last of eight children. Dwayne attributes his musical ablilities to his father, Rockin' Dopise, Sr., a pioneer of Zydeco music. As a small child, Dwayne was interested in the washboard, but quickly realized he had incredible talent with an accordion. He has played the accordion since age seven and states, "This is my calling - Zydeco music is in my blood and it is my heart and soul." As a tribute to his late father, the most influential person in his life, Dwayne plans to record an album of his Dad's greatest Zydeco hits. Dwayne Dopsie and his Hellraisers have performed in 20 different countries and in hundreds of cities The 60th GRAMMY Awards will take place at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. The telecast will be broadcast live on CBS at a new time: 7:30–11 p.m. ET and 4:30–8 p.m. PT. |

 On November 26, 2017. Michael Bridge performed with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bradley Thachuk in a performance of Argento's Valentino Dances. There was a packed house for the concert and the Niagara Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this season. The orchestra performs in the communities of the Niagara region, Canada. On January 24, 2018 - CMC Presents: New Works for Accordion Solo. This is a performance of eight new works written for the accordion, performed by Michael Bridge. The event is in collaboration with I.C.O.T. Canadian Music Centre, Toronto ON, 5:30 pm. |

 As we near the holidays and prepare for the 80th anniversary celebration of the AAA, I find myself reflecting on the immense changes that the accordion has witnessed in our country through the decades. Many of those changes affected the accordion and its popularity, yet some things have remained the same through the 80 years. Each month in 2018, I will write an article sharing lesser known stories and amazing journeys of the AAA, the accordion itself, the players, the music, and the list goes on. We hope to see all of you in Alexandria, Virginia, July 11-15, 2018, when the AAA celebrates this exciting milestone!! |

 On Sunday afternoon December 3rd, 3pm, accordionist Jean-Pierre Jourdier and his vocalist wife Grace perform for dancing at Le Bleu d’Avau, 6 rue d’Avau, 21210 Juillenay, a commune in the Côte-d'Or department in eastern France.Jean-Pierre Jourdier has been a busy musette dance accordionist since the 1960s, but also for many years owned a printing firm then operated his own dance school. He recently sold the dance school to concentrate fully on playing for dancing. |

  On Monday December 4th, 8pm, actress and singer Violette Fugasse and accordionist Julien Gonzales perform in a musical thriller at the Salle de l'Echappé, 17 Avenue Charles de Gaulle, 42290 Sorbiers, in the Loire, in France. Julien Gonzales, from Besançon was taught by Frederic Deschamps. He was a very successful competition player, winner of junior and senior variety world championship titles and also chamber music competitions. As a highly accomplished professional Julien Gonzales performs in many styles, including jazz, tango and musette, and has performed around Europe, Africa, China, Japan, Russia and Canada. |

 Accordionist Marco Lo Russo will give the first public Italian performances of his recent composition ‘Ave Maria’ on Wednesday December 6th at the Oratorio del Gonfalone, Rome, and on Friday December 8th, after the 11.30am Mass at the church of SS Conception in the Heroes Square, at 3.30pm in front of the statue of Our Lady at Largo Monsignor Giacomo d’Ardia, and at the end of the 6pm Mass in the cathedral St Francesco d’Assisi in the town of Civitavecchia. ‘Ave Maria’, was released on November 18th as a digital download single and as an MP3, containing two versions: vocal (Martina Mannozzi - soprano)/accordion/piano and instrumental – accordion and piano. This composition is dedicated to Pope Francis. Born in 1977, Marco Lo Russo graduated in classical accordion from the Conservatory of Music G. Rossini, Pesaro, Italy. He is an innovative musician, an international concert accordionist, composer, arranger, producer (Rouge Sound Production), and a Professor at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, Rome.  Stockport Accordion Club’s big annual charity fund raising concert, organised by John Jones MBE, takes place on Friday December 8th, 7.45pm, at the Broken Cross Club, Fallibroome Rd, Broken Cross, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 8TU. In addition to the Stockport AC Band, there will be spots featuring Helen Rich, the Scottish Quartet, the all-female quartet Accordion Spice, and the fabulous and inimitable Pearl Fawcett-Adriano.This concert has been held annually since 1999, and yet another brilliant evening of accordion music is in prospect, finishing with a grand Christmas finale.  Wir freuen uns sehr, auf die Mitarbeit des italienischen Musikreporters Gerlando Gatto, der seit 1974 als professioneller Journalist und Musikkritiker in Rom tätig ist und einige Artikel für Accordions Worldwide zur Verfügung stellt.Gerlando Gatto arbeitet mit verschiedenen Tageszeitungen und Zeitschriften zusammen (Blu Jazz, Jazz, Jazz, Blues und andere) und hat zahlreiche Jazzprogramme geschrieben, und dirigiert, die von RadioUno und Rai International TV ausgestrahlt wurden. Gerlando Gatto ist auch ein "Akkordeon-Fan" und hat viele Artikel und Interviews von Akkordeonisten gemacht, er ist künstlerischer Leiter des Orpheus-Preises und 2017 war er Präsident der Jury für die neue Jazz-Sektion des internationalen Castelfidardo PIF. Er hielt einen Vortrag über Akkordeon Jazz im Conservatorio dell'Aquila mit Renzo Ruggieri. Während seines Vortrags - Konzerte im Casa del Jazz widmete er eine Episode dem Akkordeon Jazz,Tango und mehrere Episoden dem Akkordeon und Bandoneon.
