Accordion band and orchestra music recommendations:
To assure that all the parts are covered during the sessions:
Randomly select the part you can best play.
Pick the same part for all the musical selections in the category.
Practice the other parts enough times so you can sit in any positions and the music will sound balanced.
Be flexible as the conductor assigned the seating to produce the best sounds.
Dance Music (Shelia Lee and/or Gordon Kohl):
The dance music is often called "Recreational Music" and played more for fun than training.
All musical selections will be discussed and played during the work sessions.
Due to time restrains, some musical selections may be removed prior to the Friday performance.
Orchestra Music Directions:
Download the sheet music upfront and practice at home.
Review different parts and voices to determine the best parts for you.
During the first practice session, the conductor may need to re-arrange individual players to balance the orchestra.
Be prepared before the convention. Remember that the purpose of a rehearsal is to practice together, not to get familiar with the sheet music.
Digital Orchestra Directions:
Prior to the convention, select musical voices based on your skill set, cannot move seats during the concert.
Digital orchestra setup:
1st section includes Piccolo, Flute, and Clarinet
2nd section includes Saxes
3rd section includes Trumpets and Horns
4th section includes Trombones and Strings
The accordionist playing Harp, Vibes, and Organ in God Bless should play Piano in Fly me to the moon, Trumpet 1 in Mexican Hat Dance, and electronics in Celebration and 3rd Part in Fiddler.
So please practice as many different voices as you can to be flexible. During the first rehearsal we will make the final assignments.
As for the orchestrations use your capabilities of your instrument and store all sounds in User Program Banks to make it easy to quickly switch your orchestration. Markup your sheet music, so you know which program to use.
Depending on the outcome of the first rehearsal we will reserve extra time and rooms on demand to address individual issues in registrations.
As a special training tool for the 2020 NAA Convention, the NAA Team has authorized the Accordion Symphonic Orchestra to perform 20 minutes on the Saturday evening concert. The selected arrangements include traditional band music through more difficult symphonic arrangements. After practicing the five (5) available musical selections, conventioneers in the orchestra will select 20 minutes of music for the Saturday performance.
Symphonic and Digital Orchestra Statement:
All parts are equally important because the melody moves among the various parts.
