cakeJOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE MAC’s 23rd ANNIVERSARY

Featured Program:     Featured Program: TINKER BOYS
Tinker Boys are a blend of musicians from an assortment of backgrounds, strung together to form a band that explores the many sides of the acoustic genre. Using elements of vocals, accordion, guitar, fiddle and harmonica in this evening’s performance, Tinker Boys are a band that is able to find a niche in many acoustic laden songs. Melding influences of traditional Irish, American country and bluegrass, and folk strains, they create a sound that has something for all followers of acoustic music.

By using their multi-instrumentalist talents, they are able to perform heavy beat polkas to hills music, popular covers and classics, and driving modern acoustic rhythms to melodic and soaring spatial pieces. Tinker Boys have amassed an impressive resume of appearances at festivals, formal and corporate events, and opening slots for national acts. With a bevy of both original and traditional songs in their repertoire, Tinker Boys showcase musicianship that keeps fingers and toes tapping. This being the month of St. Patrick, we’ll be dancing and listening to predominantly Irish music.

dan newtonFeatured Program: Dan Newton

Returning by popular demand, from St. Paul, Minnesota, is Dan ‘Daddy Squeeze’ Newton. Dan's fresh approach to the much-maligned squeeze-box and his mind-boggling repertoire of both original and traditional material will change the mind of the most hardened accordion skeptic, and delight the fan of the instrument. He draws influences for songs and tunes from such sources as French Musette, Gypsy Swing, Cajun, Jug band, Tex-Mex and Cumbia. Dan calls this global gumbo "ethnoclectic" music.

Dan "Daddy Squeeze" Newton entertains and enlightens his audiences with stories and colorful anecdotes about the accordion's history and his experiences making a living by playing and singing with the instrument he loves. Accordion lovers walk away from Dan's shows knowing they've heard their favorite instrument presented in a fresh and new way, while the squeezebox skeptic will realize that there is much to love about the accordion when it's in the right hands.
