Gaylord Klancnik muere en accidente de tráfico, Detroit- EEUU

Gaylord Klancnik, un conocido acordeonista en el mundo de la polka en Michigan murió en accidente de tráfico el 19 de diciembre. Estuvo nominado para un Grammy en la sección Polka en el año 2005. Fue un gran acordeonista y una gran persona y se que se le echará de menos en los festivales de polka. Influenciado por Frank Yankovic, Gaylord Klancnik fue uno de los líderes del estilo esloveno en la interpretación de la polka.

Joe Dannon, Rudy Bernick y Matt Pink, el ultimo fue posiblemente la mayor influencia, llevaron a Gaylord Klancnik al acordeón. En 1976, nació la Orquesta de los Hermanos Klancnik, presentando a Gaylord al acordeón y a su hermano Ken al saxofón.

Esta orquesta obtuvo mucha popularidad durante muchos años y fue aclamada y premiada como la Mejor Orquesta de Polka de Michigan y Gaylord como el Rey de la Polka de Michigan. En 1983, el precursor del Pasillo de la Fama de la Polka de Cleveland también homenajeó a Gaylord. La Orquesta actuó por todo Estados Unidos, incluyendo Hawai. También llevaron su música a Canadá, México, el Caribe y Brasil.

Gaylord Klancnik, una figura reconocida en los festivales y con muchas grabaciones en la radio y apariciones en televisión que le avalan, será recordado como uno de los intérpretes de polka más aclamados de esta era.

Festival Celtic Connections, Glasgow - Reino Unido

El Festival Celtic Connections tiene lugar del 11 al 29 de Enero. Este acontecimiento anual es uno de los festivales de música de invierno más largos del mundo. Los lugares donde se celebra el festival son la Sala de conciertos Glasgow Royal, El centro Piping, Barrowlands, el teatro Tron y la Catedral de Glasgow.

Las orquestas con acordeón son Scott Harvey Ceilidh Band, Session 9 (Escocia), Jez Lowe y Bad Pennies (Inglaterra), Viento del norte (Québec), Cehrish the ladies (EEUU) y Ojos Negros (Francia); los acordeonistas que aparecerán en el festival son Sandy Brechin, Phil Cunningham, Mairearad Green, Gary Innes, Donald Shaw y Angus Lyon.

Este festival incluye actuaciones en concierto, charlas, debates, clases magistrales, seminarios, y la final anual de los premios a jóvenes músicos tradicionales de la BBC Radio Escocesa, una feria comercial escocesa el fin de semana para promotores, el legendario club Festival y mucho más. El 28 de Enero, en el Clyde Foyer del Glasgow Royal Concert may, habrá un seminario titulado "Ven y prueba: acordeón" a las 11,00 horas y "Técnicas de acordeón" a las 14,00 horas.

Muere Anthony Ettore, New Jersey - EEUU

Anthony P.Ettore, de Montville, New Jersey murió el 20 de diciembre. Nacido en New Bedford, Massachussets, vivió en Newark y Parsippany durante 13 años antes de trasladarse a Montville en 1977. Fue secretario/tesorero de la Compañía Thomas J.O´Beirne, Roseland, New Jersey, desde 1994. Veterano del cuerpo de marines, Tony sirvió durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Estudió acordeón desde los 5 años y en 1952 fundó la Escuela de música Ettore en Staten Island, Nueva York. Muchos de sus estudiantes ganaron premios como solistas, a dúo y en orquestas de acordeón en concursos estatales y nacionales. Ettore actuó en el Carnegie may, Nueva York, con su Orquesta de Acordeón Virtuoso. Fue miembro del equipo directivo de la Asociación de Acordeonistas de América durante más de 50 años y estuvo dos trimestres como presidente.

En Marzo del 2005, Anthony Ettore fue premiado como "Hombre del año" por la Sociedad Musicóloga de Acordeón y en Noviembre de 2005 fue galardonado con la llave de Roseland por el alcalde de Roseland, Michael Paolo. Además Ettore fue socio del Lions Club de Staten Island. Le recordamos junto a su mujer Marie y su hijo Raymond.

LA acordeonista Claude Caron ha presentado un nuevo CD de música de baile musette y latina titulada "Bienvenue au Ch´ti bal". Claude Caron ha aparecido muchas veces en la televisión francesa, junto al acordeonista Michel Pruvot.

55th Trophée Mondiale, La Bourbele - France

The 55th Trophée Mondiale competition was held in the spa town of La Bourbele in the Auvergne region from October 5th to 9th. The chief organisers, on behalf of the Confédération Mondiale de l´Accordéon (C.M.A.), were Jacques Mornet and Frédéric Deschamps. The Trophée Mondiale began in grand style with an evening concert featuring Jerome Richard, Alain Musichini, Roman Jbanov and Domi Emorine. The competition involved sixty candidates (France, England, Switzerland, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, Portugal, Italy), pre-selected during the summer by the various national associations affiliated with the C.M.A.

The adjudicators were: Franck Angelis (France), Gina Brannelli (UK), Andreas Nebl (Germany), Cintas Claudine (Switzerland), Sabrina Guislain (Belgium), Nevio Prenc (Croatia), Vojin Vasovic (Serbia and Montenegro), Sergei Voitenko (Russia), Nikolai Seyrukov (Belorussia), Gianluca Pica (Italy), Tomassetti Renzo (San Marino), Jaroslav Vlach (Czech Republic) and Daniel Rodriguez (Spain).

Nereo Flowers (accordion) and Riccardo Marogna (clarinet), known as the Bube Sapràvie Duet, recently presented a program of songs based on the impressions of Venetian emigrants to South America in times gone past. The concert was part of an International festival held at the Theater in Strada, near Venice.

Ampliación del Centro de Acordeón Alex, Nueva York - EEUU

El Centro de Acordeón Alex se ampliará próximamente inaugurando dos nuevos pisos, todos los servicios para las ventas de acordeón, reparaciones, afinaciones y pruebas en la famosa calle de Nueva york "Music Row" 165 W48th St. La novedad es que incluirá una equipación especial en la "Back Room" para intérpretes que quieran probar y comparar instrumentos.

Alex tiene una tienda en la calle 48, lleva trabajando con acordeones durante 35 años. Tiene 2 constructores veteranos de acordeón de Castelfidardo, Italia, quienes se especializan en reparaciones tanto de la caja como del mecanismo de los bajos.

Alex ofrece además muchos acordeones nuevos y usados traídos desde Italia, Francia y otros países. Recientemente inauguró el 2º piso, ocupado anteriormente por Roberto´s Woodwinds, y ahora está construyendo un Museo del Acordeón interno con su colección personal.

Marie and Viva's Performances, Sydney - Australia

Marie Rappolt, with her Fisitalia accordion, leads her band Viva for a series of performances at South Sydney Leagues Club, known as 'South Sydney Rabbitohs', every Friday evening at 7.30pm, commencing on January 13th until March 8th. The club is located at 265 Chalmers Street Redfern, Sydney, New South Wales.

Marie and Viva the band are one of Sydney's most popular bands in the cabaret, Latin and jazz genres. Performances in Sydney include: Sydney Olympic Park, Darling Harbour, Kings Cross Festival, Manly International Jazz festival and Jazz in the City at QVB. The band also performs regularly at festivals at: Thredo, Gold coast, Newcastle and Kiama. The band is also popular at Local Council's functions, multicultural events and a host of corporate events.

Marie and the band are well known for their many international performances throughout Asia, most recently including appearances at festivals in Taiwan. The music that Marie and Viva the band perform is highly entertaining, presented in a delightful cabaret style from a diverse repertoire of: Jazz, Swing, Latin, Salsa, French, Spanish, Gypsy Jazz and classic show tunes.

Classical Accordion Duo, London - UK

Spanish accordionists Iñigo Aizpiolea and Iñaki Alberdi perform at the David Josefowitz Recital Hall, Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London, on January 20th at 7.30pm. Their program includes 'Tierkreis' (Karlheinz Stockhausen), 'Imago Interior' (Carlos Satué), 'Three Pieces' (Luis de Pablo), 'Trencadis' (Joan Guinjoan), 'Trama de Aire y de Sombras' (Antonio Lauzurika), and 'Petrushka' (Stravinsky).

Iñigo Aizpiolea, visiting on an Erasmus exchange, and Iñaki Alberdi, Professor of Accordion at the conservatory in San Sebastian and Barcelona, perform a recital to complete their two days working with Academy students on Spanish accordion repertoire.

Accordion Broadcasts on French Speaking Radio, Lausanne - Switzerland

The French-speaking Swiss radio station Espace 2 will broadcast for one week, from January 16th to 20th, a series of programs presenting classical and contemporary accordion. The program presenters are:Sophie Valceschini, Christophe Dufaux, Stéphane Chapuis, Nikita Pfister and Sylvain Tissot.

Radio Espace 2 broadcasts on 32.4 Kbps. The radio station will, from January 16th, offer recordings of these programs for sale, and from February 20th, these transmissions will also be available on the Internet.

North Central Area Accordion Festival, Yorkshire - UK

This year's NAO North Central Area Accordion Festival takes place on February 26th at the Glusburn Institute, just outside the village of Cross Hills in West Yorkshire, in the North of England. The competition also includes keyboard, piano and guitar sections, which take place on February 25th, whilst the Accordion and Ensemble sections take place on the Sunday.

All competitors, jury and visitors to the competition are invited to a welcome evening event, which will take place at approximately 8.00pm in a local pub, the Kings Arms in Sutton-in-Craven after the awards presentation on the Saturday evening.

There will be plenty of food, drink and music to keep visitors entertained. The competition will include prize money for the accordion, piano/keyboard and guitar entertainment sections, and also for the highest mark of the competition.
The closing date for entries is January 31st.

The Paris - Moscow Duo, Roman Jbanov and Domi Emorine are to hold a series of master classes in Gruyère from February 27th to March 3rd. The master classes are open to all, and there are no age restrictions. The series ends with a concert at 8pm on March 3rd.

Francesco Palazzo wins the Compsosition Award "Frank Evangelisti" Rome - Italy

The Italian fisarmonicista Francesco Palazzo has won the eighth edition of the International Competition of Composition "Frank Evangelisti", by the "New Consonanza" of Rome, with the composition: "Perpetual Movement- Studio per Concerto for Classical Accordion" .

This years edition of the competition has been dedicated to the accordion "bajan". The jury was composed by: Azio Corghi, president; Bernard Cavanna (France), Pascal Contet (France), Kind Ada, Fausto Sebastiani, Mika Vayrynen(Finlandia), Vladimir Zubitsky(Russia). The regulations previewed two categories: accordion solo and accordion with chamber music, from trio to quintet.

22 works were performed in the category "soloist" and 18 in category "chamber music". All works have been introduced anonymously and 3 pieces of each category were been selected to be performed the evening of 10 th December in the Auditorium of the Saint Conservatory Cecilia of Rome in the presence of the jury and public. Two works were awarded: "Perpetual Movement" of Francesco Palazzo in the cat. Solo Accordion and "Clouds Gang III" of Salvatore Piras, cat. Accordion and chamber music.
