Gracias
violín y chelo), y Qin whom Chen (Five songs on the horizon

The
annual summer music festival at Nieder-Mooser features concerts on
the pipe organ in the town church, and this year's event included
a performance by Prof. Viktor Romanko, on bayan accordion, with organist
Herbert Manfred Hoffmann. Viktor Romanko, from Jekaterinburg in Russia,
and Herbert Hoffman, from Frankfurt, performed a program of solo and
duet pieces. In the first half of the concert, the organ was predominantly
featured, and the second half, Viktor Romanko was the lead player.
The players
were highly sensitive toward each other, and their playing together
brought the best out of both instruments. The dynamics of the bayan
and organ were heard to very good effect on a range of classical transcriptions.
Highlights included JS Bach's 'Toccatta and Fugue in D Minor', in
which the organ took the lead part, and Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons',
brought fully to life by Viktor
Romanko's ability to bring out the tonal colors of the composition.
The program also included Schumann's 'Sonata for Organ in A-Minor',
and music composed by Tschernikov, Pizzigoni and Astor Piazzolla.
The Piazzolla pieces were 'Adios Nonino', 'Oblivion' and 'Libertango'.
The concert ended with some improvised traditional German and Russian
folk tunes, featuring both players.
