Uragano Katrina Info/Links - USA

Il recente disastro causato dall'uragano Katrina che ha devastato gran parte della Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama ed in particolare la città di New Orleans è una catastrofe dalle dimensioni e proporzioni inimmaginabili. La Louisiana è la patria del Cajun e Zydeco. New Orleans è certamente il centro in assoluto del il jazz tradizionale ed il blues.

Avere notizie di musicisti non è facile - per avere informazioni si possono contattare le radio: WOZ , dedicata maggiormente al jazz e KBON, che è specializzata in Zydeco & Cajun. Il Manager della Musicians' Union di New Orleans, J. Kim Foreman ha informazioni sui musicisti ed attualmente la M.U. sta preparando un data-base concernente questa tragedia..

Deceduta Elsie Bennett in New York - USA

Con grande dolore la comunitià della fisamronica annuncia la morte di Elsie Bennett. Elsie è deceduta domenica 3 Settembre 2005 ed è stata membro dell' Accordionists and Teachers Guild, International fin dal 1945 e per tanti anni ha fatto parte nel direttivo dell'American Accordionists' Association. Elsie ha dedicato tutta la sua vita alla musica e alla fisarmonica.

I suoi genitori sono arrivati negli Stati Uniti dalla Russia agli inizi del 900. Suo padre si stabilì in Detroit nel commercio di pelliccie. Quando Elsie aveva soltanto 9 anni suo padre portò a casa una piccola fisarmonica a bottoni. Dopo soltanto pochi anni lei l'ha cambiata prendendo una fisarmonica a piano di120 bassi. A 14 anni ha frequentato la Wurlitzer School dove ha imparato a suonare la chitarra, il sassofono e l'organo. La fisarmonica comunque è rimasto il suo strumento preferito e all'età di 16 anni le è stato chiesto di condurre una sezione per fisarmonica nella scuola Wurlitzer e dopo pochi mesi aveva raggiunto 85 studenti.

Durante la lunga presenza nel direttivo dell' AAA ha seguito vari ruoli, ma quello più importante è stato sicuramente il lavoro Commissioning Committee, dove è stata la responsabile per commissionare nuovi lavori per fisarmonica. Era instancabile mandare lettere di richieste ai compositori per incentivarli a scrivere brani per fisarmonica. Più di 50 brani sono stati scritti da alcuni come: Virgil Thomson, Paul Creston, Henry Cowell, Lukas Foss e molti altri. Ancora presente nell' AAA Board fino alla sua morte, l'AAA ha commissionato un brano a John Franceschina con il titolo 'For Elsie' per celebrare il suo 80°compleanno e la sua nutrita attività. Questo lavoro è stato eseguito in prima da Peter Soave durante il recente AAA Festival di Detroit città natale di Elsie.

Il suo eccezionale contributo al mondo della fisarmonica è stato onorato con il CIA Merit Award della Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) nel 1996 durante la General Assembly in Dunajska Streda, Slovakia.

Viktor Romanko durante il suo tour in Germania presenterà un nuovo CD con il titolo 'Espressivo'. Il CD contiene la 'Toccata e Fuga' (J. S. Bach), ' Concerto per Bayan e Orchestra' (I. Schamo), 'Oblivion' , 'Adios Nonino', ' Libertango' (A. Piazzolla), 'Lucie Ombre' (P. Pizzigoni), 'Gruß aus Rußland' (A. Byzov), 'Zigeuner Rhapsodie' (V. Gridin), e 'Rassipucha - Fantasie' Russe(V. Gridin). Insieme a Romankosi si esibiscono musicisti di varie orchestre Russe.

Piaf Connection Concert, Melbourne - Australia

Melbourne accordionist, Bernadette Conlon, in conjunction with one of Australia's most innovative, bilingual, French/English primary schools, Camberwell Primary, created a cabaret spectacular, which featured the music and life of Edith Piaf. The show was performed in the traditional setting of a cabaret, which set the gritty street urchins of Paris, beside the chic upper set of the 1930s.

The cabaret was accompanied by the solo accordion of Bernadette Conlon, who arranged the music for the elaborate choreography, which included the Can-Can, depicted scenes of Piaf's life, her acrobat father, her recordings and some of the many loves of her life. In particular, the cabaret focused on the love of Piaf's life, world middleweight champion boxer, Marcel Cerdan, who died in a plane crash in 1949, and for whom Piaf wrote Hymn to Love.

Marcel's great grand niece, Olivia Cerdan, who is a student at Camberwell Primary School, sang in this moving production, her two most famous songs La Vie En Rose and No Regrets, playing both Piaf and cabaret singer Juliette Greco.

The professional production was much more than simply a school play, with the accordion and Bernadette as its centrepiece. Three performances were given of this wonderful show, which captivated the hearts of a new audience of classical music lovers and children alike.

Accordion Concert, Oudenaarde - Belgium

The Akorva Accordion Orchestra is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special concert at the Salons Mantovani, Doorn B- 9700, Oudenaarde, on September 24th, at 8pm. Appearing at the concert are solo accordionist Marino Punk, Akorva AO, Accordonesis Project, and special guest, Gianluca Bibiani, from Italy.
