CIA Establishes Archive Center in Ikaalinen, Finland
    Contributed by Kevin Friedrich

September 21st 2004 marked the first donation to the archives of the
Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), a member of the International Music Council (IMC-UNESCO).The archives center is housed at the Hanuritalo (accordion house) in
Ikaalinen, Finland, which is also the headquarters of the CIA member, the Finnish Accordion Association.

The archives will collect all materials pertaining to the CIA such as all former Test Pieces, program books, information such as recordings and biographies from all CIA winners, Merit and Honored Friend award recipients, press coverage, mark sheets and results from previous competitions, and much more.

As the CIA moves forward into its 70th anniversary year, the establishment of the CIA archives enables an opportunity to put together in one place the rich history of this international organisation.
CIA President Kevin Friedrich travelled to Finland to make the first official donation to the archives.

The first donation of many CIA Test Piece scores was made by Ernest Deffner, Inc, the parent company of Ernest Deffner Publications, Pancordion, Inc. and Titano Accordion Co. International, commemorating the firm's own 70th anniversary. The president of the firm, Mrs. Faithe Deffner, has been a United States delegate to the CIA for more than thirty years.

The CIA Archives will be formally opened in early 2006.

Anyone interested in donating material pertaining to the CIA Archives is invited to email cia.archives@harmonikkaliitto.net

McHale and Two Old Friends to perform at Rochester Opera House, Hew Hampshire - USA

A local news publicity article states that: 'On Friday, October 22nd, at 8 p.m., the Rochester Opera House will happily welcome back to its stage Mac McHale and Two Old Friends. Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins, affectionately known as Mac and Hutch and co-founders of the popular band Northeast Winds, will be reuniting to perform some of their favorites from "Northeast Winds" as well as some old-time traditional country music. The Two Old Friends will be playing the banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodhran and the harmonica. The program is sure to include some of your favorite sea songs, a good amount of hot picking instrumentals and some great sing-alongs.

For the last 15 years, McHale has headed up a very successful group, Mac McHale & the Old-Time Radio Gang, who perform rousing renditions of classic melodies that recapture the mood of a unique period in American history when the popular music told "the stories from our hearts." An accomplished concertina player, vocalist and banjo player, "Hutch" has been a very important part of The Angel Band, a world-famous Irish music group'.

Tiger Lillies in Melbourne - Australia

The British accordion-led trio The Tiger Lillies, whose eccentric mixture of punk, gypsy, cabaret and music hall songs defies categorisation, are playing at the Famous Spiegeltent, Arts Center forecourt in Melbourne until October 16th, at 9.45pm nightly. Their appearances are part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival.

The leader of The Tiger Lillies is piano accordionist, vocalist and songwriter Martyn Jacques, whose songs tend to be about such unwholesome subjects as drug addiction, prostitution and even bestiality. He commented "A lot of bands just want to make people happy. That is not our objective".

The Tiger Lillies have successfully toured Germany and the Czech Republic, and have a CD available, with the intriguing title 'Farmyard Filth'.
