the Tuscan Sun" - USA
Contributed by Kevin
Friedrich
Los Angeles based Frank Marocco has been busy
recently working on four major films which have been recently released.
His accordion work can be heard in Hans Zimmer's
score to the feature film "Matchstick Men" starring Nicolas
Cage. Zimmer featured the accordion throughout the score.
In another major feature film just released
called "Under the Tuscan Sun" starring Diane Lane, the
accordion is also an integral part of the sound track which features
music by Christopher Beck. On both films, Frank is given end title
credits, an honor which is rarely given to musicians.

3rd "Day of the Accordion" - A Memorable
Event - Italy
Contributed
by Holda
Paoletti-Kampl
On September 28th and 29th the 3rd "Day
of the Accordion" was held in Bari, organized by Francesco
Palazzo, accordion professor at the "N. Piccinni"
Conservatory. This year was a special one due to the participation
of well known accordionist, Stefan Hussong.
After
the usual non-stop performance given by Professor Palazzo's students
at "Casa Piccinni" (the former house of Niccolò
Piccinni), Hussong gave an extraordinary performance in an 11th
century church, "La Vallisa". His program included a variety
of music belonging to very different ages such as Japanese traditional
music, modern compositions by Bone and Keyko Harada, plus chorales
by Bach and works by Adriana Hoelszky, Frescobaldi, Gubaidulina
and Soler. The encore was the famous "Fantango" by Finnish
composer Tiensuu. The audience gave a standing ovation. The next
day Hussong spent some time with the most promising of Palazzo's
students and gave them some precious advice - it was a memorable
moment full of kindness and humanity.
