New CD by Athos Bassissi - Italy

Contributed by Carlo Fortunato

In his latest work, Athos Bassissi appears not only as an accordionist but in a new and challenging professional role. "Metropolis", a CD published by the Azzurra label, includes a series of original pieces and a cover of the famous "Libertango" by Astor Piazzolla. The genre is a sort of metropolitan tango which has little in common with dance music - it's a contemporary and exciting style, rich with ethnic and jazz contaminations which highlights the significant skills (as an arranger) of Bassissi, who manages with extreme care to mix modern rhythms and the acoustic sound of strings, brass instruments and the bandoneon.
