Report

In the opening concert, the Moldovan accordionist Ratoi Radu demonstrated impressively why he has won all competitions worldwide in recent years: CIA, CMA, Klingenthal, Castelfidardo, Moscow, Arrasate, to name just the most important.

In his program with transcriptions of works by Bach and Liszt, once more, he was very confident and convincing: he simply left nothing to be desired!

The now 90-year-old Anatoly Belyayev is undoubtedly one of the outstanding representatives of the Russian bayan culture of the 20th century. In his programs he always presented not only classical and original works by Russian composers, but of course also arrangements of popular folk melodies.

In addition, he is also an authority in jazz and was the first Russian performer on an electronic bayan. The program in the second part of the concert included G. Shenderev's concert "Volga Pictures" for bayan and orchestra of Russian folk instruments as well as original music and transcriptions by A. Belyayev.

Following performers appeared: Olzhas Nurlanov - winner of the international competitions 2021 "Shabyt" in Nur-Sultan and the "Coupe Mondiale" in Munich, duo Alexey Sysoev (accordion) and Pavel Romadin (bayan); quartet "Admiral" consisting of Alexander Sysoev (Balalaika Prima), Michail Barsukov (Balalaika Alt), Pavel Ogorodnikov (Balalaika double bass), Michail Chernov (Bayan), as well as the State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble "Russia" under its artistic director Dmitry Dmitrienko.

Bericht

Report

The first part of the final concert was dedicated to the 100th birthday of the great Argentine Astor Piazzolla who marked an era with his creation of the “Nuevo Tango”. At the beginning of the 1990s, Piazzolla's tango was still largely unknown in Russia when Friedrich Lips started a small revolution with his quintet “Piazzolla Studio”. Nowadays hardly any artist can ignore this repertoire. The bayan/accordion orchestra of the Gnesin Academy under its conductor Ruslan Kaneev with the soloists Grigory Seredin (bayan) and Dmitry Pritula (guitar), Alexey Sysoev (accordion) and the rousing vocal duo Ilya Khardikov (tenor) and Alexandra Savchenko (soprano) performed some highlights of Piazzolla's work. Semyon Shmelkov (bayan) performed V. Zubitsky's “Dedication for Piazzolla”. The crowning glory of the festival, however, was the Italian jazz accordionist Simone Zanchini in a duo with the clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi with their own compositions as well as music by Haden and Sivuca-Oswaldinho, where they masterfully played with various stylistic elements of jazz and tango, thus inspiring their audience.

Every year a special prize is awarded at the festival: the “Silver Disc” for special contributions to the bayan / accordion art. The winners include leading artists, composers, teachers, musicians and master designers. This year Yuri Brusentsev and Simone Zanchini received the coveted award from the hands of the artistic director Friedrich Lips. CIA-President Mirco Patarini presented the CIA Merit Award to Oleg Sharov and Alexander Dmitriev for their extraordinary contributions to the development of the international accordion movement. During the festival, exhibitions of sheet music and recordings as well as demonstrations of musical instruments took place in the foyer of the concert hall of the Russian Gnesin Music Academy.

Bericht
