From the very beginning in 2009, the Macedonian Association of Accordionists “Ljubiteli na klasichna muzika” (MAA) – Skopje has supported the international project "May 6th World Accordion Day" with various exciting musical events.
This year, for the 13th time the association organized a solemn concert making the celebration of the international event and birthday celebration of the instrument, second time named as "6th May in October".
The World Accordion Day Concert was held in the hall of the Philharmony in Skopje, on October 9th, in an intimate atmosphere with a reduced audience following all Covid-19 protocols and recommendations. This year, in same circumstances as last year, under masks. The new building of the Philharmony offers a high-quality venue which the artists fully utilized. The hall was occupied with a very enthusiastic audience which reacted truly emotionally and rewarded the musicians with well-deserved applauses. Host of the event was popular Macedonian TV presenter Ognen Janeski.
The WAD Gala Concert in the past years become an important and prestigious cultural and artistic event in the country and also abroad, thanks to the fact that the concert is broadcast worldwide by a National TV station. This year the concert will be broadcast on television as a part of the celebration of the National Holiday 8th of December, St.Kliment Ohridski.
The concert featured renowned artists and accordion students from the class of Prof. Zorica Karakutovska performing works by Kusiakov, Semionov, Bete Ilin, Derbenko, Piazzolla, Schubert and Zolotaryov. At this year’s concert, the premiere of the composition "Done" by Bete Ilin dedicated to the MAA President Prof.Zorica Karakutovska was performed by Zorica.
The concert traditionally was supported by the national program of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia.
