The first
diatonic accordion appeared in Romania at the beginning of
the nineteenth century, but it was not until the arrival of
the chromatic model that the accordion became a popular instrument.
It was, and still is, played mostly in conjunction with the
violin.
Romanian
and Hungarian accordionists share a similar style of playing.
Most bands play traditional dances.
Vasile
Pandelescu is a famous Romanian accordionist who also composes.
He has recorded eight LP's. As a teacher, he has made a large
contribution to the development of accordion music in Romania.
